commentsDear Scarsdale10583 Readers:

Scarsdale 10583 is now in its tenth year of publication and we appreciate your interest in all things Scarsdale. We hope to be able to maintain a healthy community dialogue in our comments section and ask you to do the following when posting comments:

Please include your real name and your street address. If you choose not to identify yourself, we will consider your comment and decide whether or not to publish it. However, if you want to show your support, send a few nice words or make a positive suggestion, feel free to comment without identifying yourself.

Please refrain from the following:

-Denigrating public officials, community volunteers and your neighbors.

-Revealing information from confidential meetings or proceedings.

-Using Scarsdale10583 to rant or vent your frustrations.

-Making critical comments about the site or personal comments about me, Joanne Wallenstein or other Scarsdale residents.

Rule of thumb: If you are posting a comment that you would not feel comfortable saying to someone in person, or attributing your name to, please don't send it to Scarsdale10583. We will not publish it.

Here's to making Scarsdale10583 a productive and constructive venue for community dialogue.

I applaud you for this, and I hope you follow through and enforce these guidelines. (BTW, I also hope that you continue to clearly differentiate editorializing from reporting.) Many of your regular commenters will undoubtedly be upset by these new guidelines, but they have hidden behind the cloak of anonymity to attack others and behave in a socially irresponsible manner for far too long. By allowing this for as long as you have, your website has developed a reputation that will take you quite some time to rehabilitate. I suppose it hasn't been unlike the many other unmediated social forums (like Twitter) but I'm happy to see you moving in a new direction.

I am so pleased to see these guidelines. They are similar to many newspapers and magazines.
