Two Adult Book Clubs to Meet in June at the Scarsdale Library

Start Date: Wednesday, June 13, 2018 1:00 pm

Two book groups for adults are scheduled to hold their monthly sessions on Wednesday, June 13, at 1 p.m., at the Scarsdale Public Library. To register for either session and to reserve a copy of the book, go to the library website, or call the Reference Desk at 914-722-1301.

Nancy’s Book Group, led by Nancy Zachary, will discuss "The Witches" by Stacy Schiff, which provides a fresh view of the Salem Witch Trials that began early in 1692 when a minister's niece began to writhe and roar. Panic spread quickly, confounding the most educated men and prominent politicians in the colony. Neighbors accused neighbors, husbands accused wives, parents and children one another. The chaos ended less than a year later, but not before 19 men and women had been hanged and an elderly man crushed to death.

Not Your Kids Book Club for Adults, the monthly session for adults interested in what young adults are reading, will discuss the classic “Watership Down" by Richard Adams. Set in England's Downs, a once idyllic rural landscape, this tale of adventure, courage and survival follows a band of very special creatures on their flight from the intrusion of man and the certain destruction of their home.

The group is led by Scarsdale resident Sheela Chari, whose debut children’s novel, VANISHED, was a 2012 APALA Children’s Literature honor book, an Edgar Award nominee for best juvenile mystery and was featured on the Today show with Al’s Book Club for Kids.book club
