College Campus Sexual Conduct: What Parents and Students Need to Know

Start Date: Thursday, May 02, 2019 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

College Campus Sexual Conduct: What Parents and Students Need to Know

Thursday, May 2nd
7pm, Little Theater, Scarsdale High School

On May 2nd, at 7pm in the Little Theater, the PTA and Wellness Committee will present a program for parents and our senior students: College Campus Sexual Conduct: What Parents and Students Need to Know.

By some estimates, one in four students will be subject to sexual assault during their time at college. The most vulnerable are freshmen, particularly young women, and those students not identifying as heterosexual. The time from arrival on campus until Thanksgiving break, dubbed "the Red Zone," is particularly perilous, as surroundings and behaviors are unfamiliar, and friendships have yet to be formed. Drugs and alcohol are implicated in the majority of assaults.

This is an area of burgeoning importance to college administrators, faculty, students, and their parents. The laws and protocols are swiftly changing, and your student should arrive on campus knowledgeable about the new sexual behavior standards and how they play out under Title IX. Whether you have a son or a daughter, this is vital information.

Our Panel will include a Title IX expert, Linda Murphy, from the Westchester DA's office, Scarsdale Chief of Police, Andrew Matturro, and Principal, Mr. Bonamo, to discuss these important subjects.
