Community Planting Day (Sat. 27 Apr, 2019 10:00 am - 4:00 pm)

On April 27, 2019 from 10AM to 4PM, the Friends of the Scarsdale Parks, in a collaboration with the Parks, Recreation and Conservation department, will hold Scarsdale’s 5th annual Trees for Tribs Community Planting Day at Harwood Park. The public is invited to sign up on the PRC’s portal on the Village website or just show up with garden gloves, sturdy waterproof footwear, and trowels. Children accompanied by adults are welcomed to participate and learn about nature. A small number of shovels and pitchforks will be provided. If you plan to stay for a while, bring your own filled water bottle, lunch and snacks.

Over the past four years, hundreds of volunteers have planted over 1,000 native, bare root trees and shrubs provided by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation under a grant written by FOSP. A slide show of the project area during our 2018 Community Planting Day event is available on the village website here: https://www.scarsdale.com/gallery.aspx?pid=149 .

The restoration of Harwood Park would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of village staff and community volunteers. FOSP is grateful to all for their commitment to open space preservation throughout the Village.

For residents interested in planting native species on their property, the following is a list of trees planted by FOSP project volunteers:
Red, Silver and Sugar Maple
Speckled Alder

Arthur Manor Tag Sale Continues a Neighborhood Tradition (Sat. 27 Apr, 2019 10:00 am - 3:00 pm)

The Arthur Manor Neighborhood Association’s upcoming Tag Sale in Davis Park is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. This year’s tag sale is sponsored by Heather Harrison of Compass Realty in Scarsdale.

The Arthur Manor Neighborhood Association periodically holds community events at Davis Park, such as the tag sale, which was first conceived by the Association’s then Co-Presidents Al Stuart and Vince Terranova and held on June 12, 1993. That year, over 20 families had booths and hundreds of buyers turned out for the event. The tag sale has been a very well received and successful event in the years since. Davis Park, located at Boulevard and Lyons Road, was named in 1930 for Albert C. Davis, Chairman of the Scarsdale Village Board of Assessors, who lived near the park.

The Arthur Manor Neighborhood Association was formed in 1928. Today the Arthur Manor Neighborhood Association includes over 550 homes within the association’s borders. The Association’s mission is to represent Arthur Manor’s interests in all Scarsdale Village affairs and participates in the monthly SNAP (Scarsdale Neighborhood Association Presidents) and other meetings at the Village Hall.

The Arthur Manor Neighborhood Association also holds an annual holiday / Santa Claus tree lighting event and 4th of July parade and picnic at Davis Park with marchers, decorated floats, and relay races. This year will mark the 91st year the Association will hold its annual 4th of July event at Davis Park.

The April 27th Arthur Manor Tag Sale is a great way to reconnect with people in the community and meet up with new neighbors after the winter’s thaw. Food and refreshments will be available. Music will be provided by DJ Matty. Please come, browse, and maybe buy something and more importantly, have a great day in the park.

If you would like to sign up for a table at this year’s tag sale to sell that stuff in your attic and garage or to volunteer to help out on April 27th, the Arthur Manor Neighborhood Association is looking for people to help out with posting notices around the neighborhood, setting up at Davis Park on April 27th, and helping with the bake sale and hot dog tables. If you would like to lend a hand on April 27th, please email Matthew Martin at matthew.martin@pattoneakins.com

The rain date for the Tag Sale is Sunday, April 28th.
