SHS Presents Bye Bye Birdie! (Sat. 18 May, 2019 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm)

birdieposterThe year is 1958, and the much-adored rock-and-roll idol -- Conrad Birdie -- has been drafted into the US army. His songwriter and agent, Albert, and Albert’s secretary and some-time girlfirend, Rosie, hatch a plan for a farewell performance to take place on The Ed Sullivan Show, which they hope will help sell Birdie’s new song “One Last Kiss,” and ultimately save Almaelou records from going under. To cap off the performance, Birdie will actually give ‘one last kiss’ to Kim MacAfee, an avid member of the Conrad Birdie fan club from Sweet Apple, Ohio.

When Albert and Rosie head to Sweet Apple to prepare for Birdie’s arrival, things start to unravel. Kim’s father is starstruck at the thought of being on The Ed Sullivan Show with his daughter, and Kim’s new steady, Hugo gets jealous at the thought of Kim kissing Conrad on national television.

Come support SHS Class of 2019! May 17th and 18th at 7:30 and May 19th at 2:00. This production is directed by Katie Nova. Tickets are $15 for students and $20 for adults. Oleta Adams at the Emelin Theatre (Sat. 18 May, 2019 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

The consummate composer, musician with a voice that has been described as “a hybrid of Roberta Flack, Patti Austin and Brenda Russell with a more pronounced gospel edge” (NY Times), draws deeply from her roots in gospel, while crossing effortlessly into the realms of soul, R&B, urban, and popular music. Her success, nurtured by worldwide tours with Tears for Fears, Phil Collins, Michael Bolton, and Luther Vandross, has been solidified by four GRAMMY nominations and a seemingly bottomless well of creative energy.

Saturday, May 18, 2019 @ 8pm | Jazz | $68/$58/$48
