Mother Goose for Walkers Up to Age Two (Thu. 4 May, 2017 10:00 am - 11:00 am)

Mother Goose for Walkers Up to Age Two will meet on Thursday, May 4, at 10 a.m. This language enrichment program uses rhymes, songs and stories to stimulate listening, learning, speaking and reading skills. Mother Goose for Walkers is limited to the first 20 appropriately aged children. Attendees must have a ticket which are distributed on a first come, first served basis to Scarsdale cardholders in the Children's Room half an hour before the start of each session.

Needlemania! for grades 3 and up at Scarsdale Library (Thu. 4 May, 2017 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

At 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, Needlemania!, a crochet club for kids in grades 3 and up will meet. Children have an opportunity to learn the basics or show off their existing skills while meeting new friends. Registration is required at the library website,

Mother Goose for Pre-Walkers (Fri. 5 May, 2017 9:30 am - 10:30 am)

Mother Goose for Pre-Walkers, a program of rhymes, songs and stories for infants who are not yet walking will be held Friday, May 5, at 9:30 a.m. Reservations are not required, but attendance is limited to the first 20 babies to arrive.

"The Golden Age on the Silver Screen" Coming to the Scarsdale Library (Fri. 5 May, 2017 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm)

A series of films focusing on the themes of aging in film will begin on Friday, May 5, at 1:45 p.m., with the showing of the 1981 film "On Golden Pond" at the Scarsdale Public Library. The film stars Henry Fonda, Jane Fonda and Katherine Hepburn.
Dr. Steven Hyler, professor emeritus of psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center, and a Scarsdale resident, will lead a discussion on how perspectives have changed since the film was released.

WRT Celebrates Israel Independence Day (Fri. 5 May, 2017 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm)

Celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israeli Independence Day at Shabbat Services with Westchester Reform Temple. This special service will feature Artist-in-Residence Nava Tehila, a dynamic and innovative Israeli ensemble at the forefront of Israeli worship renewal.

Hebrew for "beautiful praise," Nava Tehila has become one of the Jewish world's most innovative musical prayer communities. Their original melodies can now be heard and sung in synagogues across Israel and throughout the globe. Westchester Reform Temple is already familiar with Nava Tehila's interpretations of Oseh Shalom and Shalom Aleichem. WRT invites the community to worship and experience Nava Tehila, while celebrating modern Israel's 69th birthday. The service promises to be a celebratory, meditative, joyful and reflective Shabbat worship.

Free Compost and Rainbarrels at the Recycling Center Saturday, May 6 (Sat. 6 May, 2017 8:30 am - 3:00 pm)

The Village of Scarsdale is once again making high quality food scrap compost and rain barrels available to all residents for FREE on a first come, first served basis! Simply bring a pail, bucket, or other receptacle to the Scarsdale Recycling Center, 110 Secor Road, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 06 and take some compost home.

High quality food scrap compost material is being provided pursuant to the successful Village of Scarsdale residential Food Scrap Recycling program, which now has over 550 pioneering participants that have recycled over 26,000 pounds, or roughly 13 tons, of food waste since the beginning of the program in January 2017.

They would like to reach 1,000 participating households during the program's first year, so don't just simply spread your compost, help spread the word! Bring a friend to the event and s/he will not only learn about the program, but can also get a food scrap recycling kit on-the-spot. Additional program information can be accessed here:

The food scrap compost can be used in one's vegetable garden, flower beds, or to enrich turf in place of chemical fertilizers. As noted above, FREE rain barrels will also be available.

The Village of Scarsdale Food Scrap Recycling program was formed through community collaboration, with program implementation guided by the Committee on Food Scrap Recycling, comprised of the following members: Benedict Salanitro, Public Works Superintendent; Ron Schulhof, resident volunteer; Tyler Seifert, Assistant to the Public Works Superintendent; and Michelle Sterling, resident volunteer.

Purchase Sports Camp Open House (Sat. 6 May, 2017 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

Purchase Sports Camp. located on the scenic campus of Manhattanville College in Purchase will offer weekly summer programs from June 26 to August 11, 2017. The camp is a fun and safe place for kids ages 3 to 15 where top-notch coaches help children of all levels feel at home, and bring their game to the next level. The well-rounded camp experience focuses on developing skills, discovering new interests, meeting new friends and most importantly, having fun.

The facilities include 6 Har-Tru tennis courts located right next to the campus's brand new state-of-the-art astro-turf soccer field, outdoor basketball courts, an indoor pool, and an indoor gymnasium that can be used for basketball and volleyball, and will be used during rainy days. While the primary focus of the camp will be tennis, soccer, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, cheerleading and flag football, the children will have an opportunity during the day to cool off at the pool, and the option to play other field sports as they like.
