"Days of Bossa Nova" Book Signing (Sat. 3 Jun, 2017 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm)

bossanovaDays of Bossa Nova is the first novel from Ines Rodrigues, a Scarsdale author published by Black Opal Books. She will be having a signing at the Scarsdale Public Library on June 3rd from 12-3.

What happens in the land of samba, Carnival and Bossa Nova when a brutal dictatorship takes over? Days of Bossa Nova is a family saga about love, music and greed, set in the fascinating and chaotic São Paulo, the largest city in South America, where the author grew up and worked as a journalist, before landing in New York years ago.

The main character, Felipe Navarra, rises from poverty to conquer the city he loves. He becomes a radio celebrity in the age of Bossa Nova, classic sambas and radionovelas. On his way to fame and money, he faces a heartbreaking love story with Valentina, his childhood sweetheart, and sells his soul to the dark dictatorship that took over Brazil from 1964 to 1985. His ascent is an inverted parallel with the city's fall into a crime-ridden place, where the gap between rich and poor gets dangerously wide.

Ines Rodrigues lives in Scarsdale with her husband, two children and two cats. Since 2015, she promotes the Scarsdale Salon in partnership with journalist and columnist Preeti Singh. The Salon is a successful literary event at the Scarsdale Library, where authors read from their work and meet the community. Learn more about the salon by clicking here.

Ines also teaches Creative Writing at The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, and Italian Language at Bronxville Adult School. She worked as a journalist and radio host in Brazil, and lived in Italy and London before making Scarsdale her home.
