Freightway Steering Committee Public Workshop (Thu. 12 Oct, 2017 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

The Village of Scarsdale is conducting a visioning study to guide potential redevelopment of the Freightway site. Last night, the Freightway Steering Committee (FSC) a committee of residents appointed by the Village Board hosted its second public workshop designed at getting community input on what potential redevelopment of the Freightway site might be considered. More than 40 residents and others interested in the discussion attended the two and a half hour event which was held at the meeting room of the Scarsdale Congregational Church. The participants listened to an overview presentation by Jonathan Martin and Noah Levine of BFJ Planning, consultants to the FSC. After the presentation, participants divided into several roundtable groups tasked with discussing a variety of options for the site that might be considered in the future. Each discussion group then appointed one of their members to present a summary of their conversation to all participants. The meeting was recorded and a video of the event will posted on line on Scarsdale Public TV's web site and on the Village's web site: www.scarsdale.com/fw

The next working session of he FSC is scheduled for October 12, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the 3rd floor meeting room in Village Hall. The working session will be open to the public. In addition, another public workshop is scheduled for November 13, 2017, time and place to be announced.

The FSC is working to produce a report on its findings to be issued during the first quarter of 2018. Information about the FSC and its work is available on the Village web site link noted above.

Fire Fair at Crossway (Sat. 14 Oct, 2017 10:00 am - 2:00 pm)

FirePreventionA "Fire Fair" at Station 3 (56 Crossway) is planned for Saturday, October 14, 2017 to promote Fire Prevention Month. It will be held from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., rain or shine.
It will be a full Fire Department effort, with participation from all three volunteer companies, explorers, as well as the career staff.

The fair will include a "Smoke Trailer" – a simulated house with a smoke machine for kids to crawl through; apparatus demonstrations; Hourly FIRE DEMONSTRATIONS; extinguisher demos; fire prevention videos; fire safety checklist completion prizes; literature and food. Other "hands on" activities for children are also planned.
The school program will take place prior to the fair. On Friday, October 13, 2017, we will visit the first grades in all of the elementary schools in the village. We will show a safety video and discuss fire prevention. We will also be handing out flyers to children of all ages to bring back home reminding the families about the fair.

This year's theme for Fire Prevention Week is "Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!" Firefighters will be spreading the word about practicing your home fire drill twice a year.
Fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire escape ladders will be on sale. New this year, you can bring your home fire extinguishers to the Fair and get a free inspection. Although the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) designates October as "Fire Prevention Month", we know that emergency preparedness has to be ongoing all year round. Stay safe!
