The traffic island at Depot Place, also known as "Constitution Circle," on the west side of Scarsdale Train Station has been transformed. Benny Salanitro, who heads the Scarsdale Department of Public Works noted the sorry state of this small pocket park and decided it was time to do something about it. Using Village staff and some surplus cobblestones that remained from other improvement projects, Salanitro and his team undertook the renovation.

In just three weeks, they cleared weeds and overgrowth, surrounded the island with new curbing and built new walkways to traverse the space. They put down grass seed and mulch where needed and installed picnic tables and benches to give commuters and residents a pleasant outdoor space to enjoy coffee, donuts or a slice of pizza from the vendors in the circle.

Whether you're waiting for the train, taking a walk through town or looking for a picnic spot, you now have a new location for a meet-up. The walkways and curbing are safer for pedestrians, the new curbing will prevent erosion and the revitalized space converted an eyesore to a pleasant oasis.
