Scarsdale Historical Society Property at 937 Post Road Back on the Market Plus Home Sales and Open Houses

Here is an update on the status of the Scarsdale Historical Society property at 937 Post Road along with more society news from President Randy Guggenheimer:

In April 2017, the Scarsdale Historical Society entered into an agreement to sell its property at 937 Post Road to 937 Post Road Associates LLC subject, among other things, to a façade easement on the Cudner-Hyatt House and a prohibition on subdividing the property into more than three lots. This transaction was terminated in November 2018 because the last of the necessary approvals for the sale was not obtained within the contract contingency period. Prior to expiration of the contingency period, the Scarsdale Historical Society had worked diligently with the New York State Attorney General’s office and had secured its consent to the transaction, as required by law.

Subsequently, the Attorney General’s office withdrew the consent when it became aware of the legal difficulties of one of the principals of the purchaser, 937 Post Road Associates LLC. The Scarsdale Historical Society then elected not to seek to extend the contingency period and terminated the Contract.

As a result, the Scarsdale Historical Society is again putting its property at 937 Post Road up for sale subject, among other things, to a façade easement on the Cudner-Hyatt House and a prohibition on subdividing the property into more than three lots. Any transaction will be subject to a number of contingencies, including the approval of the New York State Attorney General’s office.

The society has completed two documentary films which are available on their website at www.scarsdalehistoricalsociety.org. We are thrilled about our upcoming documentary film which will premiere in early 2019 on the history of the Bronx River. We will be making announcements about this soon.

They are continuing to work with the Scarsdale Public Library to preserve and digitize many of the back issues of the Scarsdale Inquirer. Most of the issues from 1901-1975 are now available online. They can be accessed through our website or the Library website.

A new book, Westchester County: A History by Field Horne is now available. This book was commissioned by the Westchester County Historical Society and partially funded by a grant from the Scarsdale Historical Society.
