Boys in the Ladies Locker Room?

changingroomWe received this note about the lockers rooms at the Scarsdale Pool this week:

A Modest Swimmer writes:

I am not happy about the policy at the Scarsdale Pool regarding pre-adolescent boys in the women's locker room. A sign posted outside the women's locker room says that children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. That means if a boy, age 11+ has to shower or use the facilities-- and is at the pool with his mother or a nanny -- he uses the women's locker room where I am often changing or showering. It's disconcerting to have someone else's 11 year-old son sneaking a look at my private parts! Heck – pre-pubescent boys often look at porn online – what are they doing in the ladies locker room?

While we are on the subject a woman was casually walking around the women's locker room with her two little boys in tow, completely naked. This is really rude for the children and especially for the others in the locker room. No one wants to see you naked, so please put your clothes on.

Quoting Na:
This sign does not say that 11 yr old boys are allowed in the women's locker room. It just says that all children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult. They probably use the same sign for both locker rooms and thus keep the language gender-neutral.

Please read again, it does not say "should be accompanied" it says "must"

I could see why your general concern is valid, but your statement about pre-pubescent boys looking at porn online is absurd. You sound like an out of touch old person. No typical 11 year old boy wants to see a naked 50+ year old woman naked. Furthermore, given that people look at porn for sexual arousal, the idea of pre-pubescent boys "often look[ing] at porn online" is hilariously obtuse.

How the heck did the village/pool implement this policy without consulting with the community? :o

That is insane. My 8 yo often goes to the pool with her dad alone and she is completely capable of changing herself in the women's locker room. I don't want her going in the men's locker room. It is not appropriate.

Yes, it is the same on Male side (except I have not seen any girls in there).

Unless the facilities are cleared when an under 12 is present, perhaps separate facilities should be provided. If that is not possible, then more and better curtained areas could be considered.

If you need an adult in the men's room and an 11 year old is with a female, he has to use the ladies room. Duh
