Snow Blankets Scarsdale

Scarsdale received at least a foot of snow on Saturday January 23rd. As the Village Manager's office asked everyone to refrain from using the roadways or parking on the street, most stayed indoors for the duration of the storm, leaving the snowfall undisturbed until Sunday. We awoke to bright sunny skies and a beautiful winter wonderland. Here are a few snow photos from around town. If you have more to share, please send them to scardalecomments@gmail.com.

On Sunday morning, Theodore Bear (at top) donned orange plastic shoes made from plastic newspaper bags to protect his feet against the salt and snow.
A friend on Dickel Road sent this shot below of her patio.
Todd Finger shared the photo below of snow banks in front of Metro Deli on Palmer Avenue.
And while everyone was inside watching, Mayor Jon Mark reported that "the Department of Public Works did a terrific job overnight of clearing the streets following an impressive snowfall. The Village's 25 miles of sidewalks will be cleared over the next several days and the mountains of snow in the Village Center will also be trucked away. We appreciate residents' patience while the crews go about the task of tiding up the Village. Merchants are reminded that they are responsible for clearing the sidewalks in front of their stores."

Police Investigating the Death of a 58 Year-Old Woman on Lincoln Road

Scarsdale Police are currently investigating the homicide of a 58 year-old woman at 50 Lincoln Road on the morning of Wednesday January 20th. According to a press release from the Scarsdale Police they received a 911 call at 10:09 am saying that a woman at the house had been seriously injured.
Police officers and the Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps arrived at 50 Lincoln within three minutes but were apparently unable to save her.
Police have taken a 61 year-old man into custody and are currently working with the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Forensic Investigations Unit and the Westchester County District Attorney's Office on an investigation.
Police are certain that this was an isolated incident that poses no threat to the community.
The police report does not give the identity of the parties involved. However, the home is owned by Jules Reich. He is married to Dr. Robin Goldman who is an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
The Journal News is reporting that the victim was stabbed to death and Tara Rosenblum from News 12 says, "Friends ID victim of fatal domestic #Scarsdale dispute as Albert Einstein College Prof/Pediatrician/Mother Dr. Robin Goldman."
Today, Lincoln Road was barricaded and press vehicles from major news outlets were waiting at the intersection of Carthage and Lincoln Roads to get some news.
This is the first murder in town in almost 40 years. The last occurred in 1977 when Yale student Bonnie Garland was bludgeoned to death at her home by her ex-boyfriend Richard Herrin who was visiting her in Scarsdale.
Reich Denied Bail

At a hearing before Judge Anne Minihan in White Plains today, Julius Reich was denied bail. He is accused of second-degree murder and his attorney Kerry Lawrence had asked that bail be set at $150,000. He offered to turn over his client's passport.
However, Assistant District Attorney John O'Rourke said that Reich was a potential flight risk. His children told investigators that their father has assets in international accounts and access to jets.
According to the Daily News, O'Rourke told the judge that Reich attacked his wife in the shower on Wednesday morning while she was preparing to go to work. He allegedly grabbed her from behind and stabbed her 21 times. Leaving a trail of blood to the kitchen, he then smoked a cigarette before calling police.
The judge also granted the three Reich children, Jenna, Alyssa and Adam orders of protection against their father. O'Rourke said that Goldman had recently made moves to change the locks on the house and that Reich's children were afraid of him.
Commenting on the judge's decision in an email to Scarsdale10583, Reich's attorney Kerry Lawrence of Calhoun and Lawrence said, "We are very disappointed the Court did not set bail for Mr. Reich. Mr. Reich has worked and lived in New York his entire life and has a reputation both in his work and personal life as a gentle kind man. The allegations that he was likely to flee if released on bail are baseless."
Current Home to Move to the Golden Horseshoe and Expand

Current Home, the modern accessories and gift shop, will relocate to a larger space at the site of the former Chef's Table in the Golden Horseshoe in the spring of 2016. They will double in size and offer a more extensive selection of merchandise.
The store opened in 2013 and has grown in the past two years under the management of owners Alyson Lane and Karen Tolchin. The two have recently travelled far and wide to seek out unique and hard to find merchandise.
Commenting on the news Lane said, "We are thrilled about the move and our newly renovated space. We will be carrying a wider selection of accent furniture, lighting, mirrors and artwork in the new store as well as a more robust selection of dinnerware and flatware. We are also focused on creating a bridal registry to service the next generation of Current Home customers.
Current Home will also launch Complete by Current Home, an in-home accessories design service. "Many of our customers have asked for our help to accessorize their home. Complete allow our stylist to bring an expertly edited assortment of décor to the clients home to give them the finished look they always dreamed of."
