I was recently invited to spend an afternoon at Greenwich Medical Spa where I was treated to their signature DiamondGlow Facial and I couldn’t have been more impressed or felt more pampered. From the moment I walked into their sun filled entry, I knew I was in store for a true indulgence. After the receptionists greeted me with friendly smiles, they directed me to a private sitting area where I could wait for my aesthetician with a warm cup of tea or bottle of water. Although the soothing tones and calming design details of the area caught my eye, I really appreciated that this space was tucked away from the foot traffic that is common at the Golden Horseshoe.
I didn’t have long to enjoy the sitting area before my aesthetician, Neidyn Regalado, arrived to usher me to a treatment room filled with the calming aroma of lavender and soft, relaxing music. Neidyn’s warm and inviting demeanor instantly made me feel comfortable and completely at ease. Because every treatment is personalized to meet the particular needs of each client, Neidyn began by asking if I had any concerns about my skin.Talking about my middle-aged skin problems isn't exactly fun, but Neidyn’s knowledge and professionalism made way for easy and honest communication.
After sharing some of her expert recommendations, Neidyn began my DiamondGlow Facial (the latest in microdermabrasion 
technology) by first dermaplaning my skin. As she explained, dermaplaning uses a special tool to gently remove dead skin and unwanted Vellus hairs (peach fuzz) which reveals a new, smoother layer of skin. In addition to a healthy glow, dermaplaning also allows the serum of the DiamondGlow to penetrate deeper and maximize the results. With my skin already feeling incredibly refreshed, Neidyn then used the DiamondGlow tool which “simultaneously exfoliates, extracts and infuses skin with condition-specific serums for an all-inclusive treatment in one step.” As Neidyn swept the diamond head over my skin, it seemed as if I could feel my skin renewing under her gentle touch. Although the DiamondGlow treatment wasn’t uncomfortable in the least, Neidyn continually checked in throughout my entire treatment to make sure I was comfortable and to explain her process.
After the DiamondGlow, Neidyn finished my treatment with a few more extractions to remove all unwanted blackheads and impurities. Con Edison to Extend Gas Line Replacement Into Fox Meadow

Almost a year later than estimated, the initial portion of the installation of a new gas main that will extend from White Plains to the Bronx is near completion. That portion, travelling along Walworth Avenue to Fenimore Road should be done within two weeks. However, according to Michael Smith of Con Edison, that’s not the end of the disruption in Greenacres where the project has been extended to Greenacres Avenue and beyond. This work involves upgrading the gas distribution lines to individual homes and is still in progress. Smith did not give a target date for the completion of the work, removal of the metal plates and road repair.
At a meeting at Village Hall on Tuesday night January 30, 2022, Smith unveiled plans to continue the work into Fox Meadow, along a 1.5 mile route that extends from Fox Meadow Road to Paddington, Whig, Brite Avenue, Church Lane and ends on Crane Road (see the map.)
This portion of the project is scheduled to begin in March 2023 and to be completed by September 29, 2023. The 7,700 expanse of new pipe is expected to be installed at 40 feet per day with work from 8 am to 5 pm on Monday through Friday and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays. The utility also plans to ask for an exception to the Village’s noise ordinances to begin work at 8 am on Saturdays.
After many complaints about traffic disruptions during the work in Greenacres, Con Edison plans to do the following to minimize the effects of the work on roads.
The plans says:
-All road detour and/or closures will be coordinated daily between Con Edison and the Scarsdale Police Department in advance of the project progressing.
-Coordination with school/camp pick up and drop off when in close proximity to sensitive areas
-Heightened focus on proper housekeeping and material storage will be a priority.
In response to complaints about the noise, the utility plans to:
-Install white noise back up alerts on excavators
-Perform no work before 8 am
-Install jackhammer mufflers
-Use rubber matting under steel road plates
Smith also explained that there will be material staging areas along the route, with the first on Fox Meadow Road between Chesterfield and Butler Roads. While the work is being done, Fox Meadow Road should be open to at least one lane of traffic with intermittent detours depending on the scope of the work that day. They plan to give residents 100% access to their homes and allow for all deliveries.
Since the gas distribution service has already been upgraded in this area, Smith believed the project will be completed more quickly.
Once the new pipeline is installed, Smith said that Con Ed plans to lift the moratorium on new gas service to Scarsdale. However Alan Drury, a spokesman for Con Edision sent us the following correction after the meeting. Drury says the moratorium will not be lifted. He wrote, "The project will replace 10 miles of existing 24-inch main, and create a continuous transmission system between gas supplies in Westchester and the Bronx. That will allow us to maintain service to customers in the event of the loss of either supply. The moratorium is unrelated to the Bx-WP project. That project began years before the moratorium was announced in 2019. The moratorium remains in place and we have not announced a lifting of it."
Mayor Jane Veron said, “We had a lot of resident frustration. It was not as seamless as we had hoped. We need a single point of contact when we have concerns.” She also asked, “Can we bury an electric line along this route?”
Smith said that Con Edison plans to increase communication with affected residents by placing sandwich boards in affected areas and sending a monthly newsletter to those who live along the route.
Trustee Whitestone asked why the initial portion of the project took a year longer than projected and was told that the scope was expanded with distribution lines being installed to each home.
Trustee Mazer asked if Fox Meadow residents will have gas service disruptions during the project, and Smith said there will only be “minor disruptions.”
Mazer followed up, saying, “Fox Meadow Road was just paved – and now you are going to have to tear it up?” Smith said, “Con Ed will do curb to curb paving and leave it better than we found it. But we have created a work coordination group.”
Trustee Brew said, “Customers have seen a big increase in their gas rates - will they see a decrease when gas is more available?” Smith said he will work others to get an answer on this.
Trustee Gans asked why Con Edison wanted to work on Saturdays – and start at 8 am. He said, “This will be disturbing to people. There should be discussion. Can they work later – until 6 pm instead?
The response was that the longer work day and the additional Saturday will increase the speed at which the project gets done.
No Sales Tax on Home Energy Costs: Check Your Bills

Westchester County Executive George Latimer is reminding residents to check their heating bill more than a month in to his initiative to suspend sales tax collection on home energy costs from Dec, 1 to Feb. 28. The sales tax suspension covers home heating oil, propane, natural gas, electric, coal and wood for residential heating purposes and covers homeowners as well as rental units.
Latimer said: “Westchester County Government is constantly looking to find ways to make the lives of residents a little easier. This winter, heating your home will now cost you a little less. As we all face rising costs in our daily lives, this suspension of certain sales tax will add extra dollars to the wallets of those who call Westchester home.”
Landlords and renters will be eligible depending on the structure of the unit’s heat and electric use. The initiative is administered by the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance; the vendors will not be assessing sales tax as directed by the State. The sales tax will automatically be taken off the bill.
Latimer said: “If you see you are being charged Westchester County sales tax for any home energy item starting December 1 please contact the County right away at (914) 995-2900.”
Hundreds of Emergency Workers Search for Five Hours to Locate Downed Plane Near Westchester County Airport

County Executive George Latimer discussed the search effort for the downed plane.County Executive George Latimer held a press conference at 10 am on Friday morning January 20, 2023 to report on a plane crash and rescue operation that occurred in stormy weather on Thursday night January 19, 2023 near Westchester County Airport.
According to Latimer, hundreds of EMS workers and firefighters as well as the FBI were called in to search for the small two person plane that crashed in Louden Woods near King Street in Armonk at 5:30 pm on Thursday night. Workers searched for the plane during a treacherous storm in thunder, lightning and heavy rain and did not find the plane until 10:30 pm that night. It was located by finding the signals from the cell phones of the two lost in the accident
The single engine Beechcraft A36 plane was enroute from JFK to Cuyahoga County airport, south of Cleveland when it lost pressure and crashed in to the woods near Rye Lake about a mile and half from the Westchester County airport runway.
The two occupants of the plane were identified as the pilot Boruch Taub and Benjamin Chafetz. Both were members of the orthodox religious community in Cleveland. According to the Cleveland Jewish News, Taub was the proprietor of MasterWorks Automotive & Transmission, and Chafetz was the owner of 121eCommerce LLC in Cleveland Heights.
According the Jewish Chronicle, “Moments before the crash, Mr Chafetz sent a text to a friends’ WhatsApp group that said their plane had “lost engines” and asked his community to pray for him. The message read: “I love you and the kids, “I am sorry for everything I have done. We lost engines. Call and have community say Tehillim.” Tehillim is the Hebrew term for the Book of Psalms.” Chafetz leaves behind a wife and seven children.
Just prior to the crash the pilot was communicating with a series of control towers and said he had low engine pressure at 5:20 pm. The plane lost altitude too quickly to clear the lake and land on the runway.
The search for the plane was on water, land, and in the air, but ultimately a cybersearch located the plane. The FBI brought in special equipment to ping the phones. Once the coordinates were given, rescuers located the wreckage of the plane. It was found five and half hours later at the location of the last blip received by the FAA. The victims were on the ground, deceased.
Pilot Boruch Taub and passenger Benjamin Chafetz died in a small plane crash near Westchester County Airport on Thursday evening January 19, 2023.
The medical examiner released their remains for burial in Ohio by sundown on Friday, as is the Jewish tradition.
Westchester County Commissioner of Emergency Services Richard Wishnie said the weather was “impossible,” and that even after they pinged the phones of the occupants, they were not sure whether the plane was in the water (Rye Lake) or on land. He thanked members of the Armonk, Portchester, Purchase and West Harrison fire departments along with EMS agencies from Armonk, Harrison, Portchester and Rye-Rye Brook.
The area will be sealed off for the next several days for an investigation and removal of the wreckage.
Latimer asked for prayers for the two lives that were lost, saying “it could have been us.”
Students Inside Albany Conference: Applications Due Monday February 6

For the 12th consecutive year, the League of Women Voters of Scarsdale will select one high school student to attend the annual Students Inside Albany Conference to take place from May 21n to May 24, 2023 in Albany, New York. Any Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student who attends Scarsdale High School or resides in the school district is eligible to apply.
This four day, in-person, and interactive event will bring together high school students from across the state to learn about New York State government and will immerse them in the process by which public policy is proposed, revised, and enacted in New York.
As in past years, the agenda will be packed with tools to instruct students on how to influence public policy decision-making at the state level. A highlight of the conference is the opportunity for students to meet with legislators to discuss issues and advocacy.
Past Scarsdale student participants were unanimous in their enthusiasm about the program.
The cost of the conference, including hotel and meals, is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters New York State Education Foundation, Inc. and the Scarsdale League.
