Compost will be available on a first-come\, first-serv ed basis. Residents are encouraged to arrive early and bring a pail\, buck et\, or other container to take some home. This nutrient-rich compost is i deal for use in vegetable gardens\, flower beds\, and lawns\, and can serv e as a natural alternative to chemical fertilizers.
\nThis compost giveaway\, held in celebration of Ea rth Week\, is also an opportunity for residents to learn more about and pa rticipate in the Scarsdale Food Scrap Recycling Program\, which has diverted over 4 million pounds of food scraps from the waste stream since its launch in J anuary 2017. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and help resid ents get started\, and food scrap recycling starter kits and rolls of comp ostable bags will be available for purchase.
