Book Discussion: Rabbit Moon with Nancy Zachary

Wed. 10 Sep, 2025 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Rabbit Moon by Jennifer HaighPlease join Nancy Zachary in the Scott Room of Scarsdale Public Library to discuss Rabbit Moon by Jennifer Haigh on September 10 at 2 pm..

"Rabbit Moon, like novelist Jennifer Haigh’s bristling body of prior work, plunges us into gritty, real-world conditions and issues.

"Its voice — brisk, capable, almost reportorial — also functions as a high-speed camera, zooming into Shanghai, 'miracle city of modern China, on a Sunday morning just before dawn,' its abandoned financial district 'a ghostly proscenium studded with skyscrapers.' There, Lindsey Litvak, a beautiful 22-year-old redhead paused at an empty street corner, is struck by a car, its anonymous male driver 'nineteen and full of rice wine.' Lindsey is rendered comatose.

"The pages that follow, tacking back and forth in time and between points of view, investigate exactly how Lindsey arrived at that fateful moment, and how the terrible accident affects key people in her orbit" - The Washington Post.

Book Launch: Secret Orphanage with Barbara Josselsohn

Mon. 15 Sep, 2025 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

SecretOrphanageMonday, September 15, 7:00 PM at Scarsdale Library

Scarsdale's Barbara Josselsohn is a best-selling author of nine historical and contemporary novels. Her latest novel, Secret Orphanage, is a breathtaking, emotional historical novel based on an actual French village that refused to stay silent.

France, 1942: In a quiet village in German-occupied France, a schoolteacher ushers young Jewish children into her classroom. Every day she pretends to send them home, waving at the local police roaming the streets, as instead they sneak away to hide upstairs. The ruse is working — for now. But she can’t stop thinking about the note she found in her closet last night. Written in the secret code used by the Resistance, it said that a baby she’s sheltering could be reunited with its mother… if she has the courage to follow through.

New York, present day: Haunted by a loss he refuses to speak about, an elderly man with a French accent is slowly losing his memories. Then his granddaughter finds a familiar name inside the old children’s book he used to read to her. The finding leads her to a French village with a dark and dangerous past. What's the connection between the elderly man and the quiet, memory-laden town?

Barbara Josselsohn is a best-selling author of nine historical and contemporary novels. Her newest book is The Secret Orphanage, a sweeping, multigenerational story set in a small village in southern France at the epicenter of the French Resistance. Her articles and essays appear in a range of publications including The New York Times, New York Magazine, Writer’s Digest, Parents Magazine, and Westchester Magazine. Barbara teaches novel and essay writing at The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, Westport Writers Workshop, and Scarsdale Library. A member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, she helped found and now coordinates the Scarsdale Library Writers Center, which promotes and supports local writers. When not writing, she enjoys yoga, ballet (as both a spectator and a participant), and spending time with her family – her husband, her three adult children and their significant others, and her rescue pup, a schnauzer named Albie, who shows up occasionally in her books. She is currently at work on a new historical novel set for release in July, 2026. For more information, visit her at www.BarbaraJosselsohn.com.
