Black people have lived in Scarsdale since Westchester was first settled by Europeans in the 1600s. Through a variety of sources including maps, newspaper articles, photographs, recorded interviews, and census records, you will learn about Scarsdaleā€™s important Black community and how it has changed over the past 300 years, from the time of slavery through suburbanization and the civil rights era. The program is sponsored by the Scarsdale Forum, the Scarsdale Historical Society and the Scarsdale Public Library.
