Scarsdale Police Report: Harassment, a Death and a Car Break-in

A Scarsdale teen reported that the father of a former friend harassed her on the night of May 9th. The girl was outside Westchester Reform Temple at 8:40 at night when the man drove up and said to her, “Do you have any plans tonight?” She replied “no,” and the man said, “why don’t you just shut the fuck up.” The girl was fearful and alarmed and reported that the man’s daughter, the former friend, was in the car and laughing at the time her father made the remarks. The man, who lives on Bobby Close, was accused of harassment.

A 26 year-old Crawford Lane woman was arrested for criminal contempt on 5/11 when she returned to the home of her mother in violation of an order of protection. Since she was ordered to stay away, her mother called the police.

Death: Jaegene Hwang, age 81 of Penn Boulevard died at home on the night of May 7th. Hwang’s wife called police when she found him unresponsive. The man was a registered DNR patient.

Car break-in at Scarsdale Middle School: A car belonging to a Greendale Road woman was vandalized when it was parked at the Scarsdale Middle School on the afternoon of May 8th. The rear driver’s side window of the 2012 Mercedes Benz was broken and a purse that was on the back seat was taken. A pry mark was found near the broken window. The bag contained $400 in cash as well as id’s, credit cards, ATM cards and sunglasses.

Missing: An unspecified amount of cash and 2 keys to a safe deposit box were reported stolen by a Garden Road woman. The money and the keys had been in a small wooden box in a locked closet in her upstairs bedroom. She said the theft took place between 4/15 and 4/30 and she made the report on 5/13.

A Black Birch Lane woman reported that two checks, totaling $440 were drawn from her account on March 30, 2012. A checkbook was missing from her box of checks and someone wrote two without her authorization.

Vandalism: The address sign at 1113 Post Road was stolen overnight from 5/12- 5/13.

A Walworth Avenue man called police to report damage to his front lawn. He heard noise at 3 am on 5/13 and when he awoke the following morning it appeared that a car had driven over the Belgian blocks that line his property and dislodged the blocks, damaged the lawn, shrubs and a storm drain.

Angry Cats: At 12:36 am on 5/8 a Harcourt Road woman called police to say that an unknown animal was screaming and howling in her basement. When police arrived they found two cats in a basement window well. The cats ran off when the police arrived.

Decorating Dispute: A Secor Road woman called police on the morning of 5/9 about a dispute with her decorator. She had paid the decorator 92% of the bill, pending completion of the job but the unhappy decorator sent the Scarsdale woman a text that said, “I will take any legal action necessary to collect the amount owed to me.” Police advised her that this was a civil matter.

Tree Trouble: On 5/7 a Harvest Road man complained that workers from a tree company were on his property. They were in the process of removing trees from a neighbors property that overhung onto his property. The tree company agreed to leave his property.

At Church: The initials GiK, written with a red marker, were found on a shed door at Scarsdale Community Baptist Church on 5/11.

The Monsignor of IHM called police at 5:41 pm on 5/9 when a group of young men was making noise in the parking lot. When police arrived, the men left without incident.

At St. James the Less the remains of a cigar and two empty glassine envelopes were found in the parking lot on Sunday morning. The Church will check their video tape to see who may have been in the parking lot the prior night.

Identity Theft: A Boulevard resident came to police headquarters on May 8th to report multiple incidents of identify theft. Home Depot called to discuss a recently opened credit card account in his name that he did not open. When he called Citibank to let them know about the Home Depot account he learned that an account had also been opened at JC Penney in his name. When he contacted his bank he found out that someone had attempted to access his credit card account and requested a replacement card. As a result, he incurred a fee of $15.

A Greenacres Avenue woman also reported fraudulent transactions on her credit card – one from a toupee shop and another for a Dell computer. The report was made on 5/10 and the incidents occurred between 5/5 and 5/10.
