Scarsdale Homes: Now and Then

Builders are in full swing in Scarsdale – razing old homes, adding to existing ones and building ever-larger homes to suit prospective buyers. Whatever your views on preservation, the size of new homes and Scarsdale's building code, there's lot to see when driving the streets of the Village.

Here are some homes we've been watching:

Though the owners could not get permission to raze the former home of Earl Graves at 8 Heathcote Road, they were permitted to teardown everything but the front façade of this brick mansion. See below for the original home, the remaining façade and construction of the new home. The owners applied to the Board of Appeals to build a home, greenhouse, and pool cabana which would exceed 15,000 square feet of floor area.

 

 

Here are some other homes that have been torn down:

157 Brewster Road – a small 3 bedroom/3 bath home in Greenacres will be replaced with a far larger one.

     









At 21 Greenacres Avenue, a modest four-bedroom 3,400 square foot home on a flag lot has been demolished and will be replaced with a 6,200 square foot home that's sitting in the backyard of 11 surrounding homes.
