jewelryboxArrested: On May 24, police arrested Aaron Duncan, 54, of North Salem, on charges of driving with an expired registration and lack of insurance following a traffic stop for the violations. When checking Duncan’s profile, police learned there were active arrest warrants for Duncan issued out of White Plains. Police held Duncan at headquarters until police from White Plains arrived and picked him up.

On May 26, a defendant – Kyle Joseph Mori, 20, of Greenwich, CT – turned himself in at headquarters on an arrest warrant. Mori is accused of using a Park Road friend’s $40,000 Volvo without permission and involving the Volvo in a car accident. Mori was released on his own recognizance and issued a return ticket for Village Justice Court.

Stolen
A Paddington Road man reported his wife’s jewelry box, containing $35,000 worth of jewelry, was stolen from their house while contractors and telephone workers were present in the house, in the company of his wife, May 28.

Car break-ins
On May 25, a Farley Road resident reported cars parked in his driveway overnight were entered and approximately $10 in coins were stolen.

Identity theft
On May 23, a Cohawney Road resident reported someone attempted to open an account using his personal identity information. The attempts were blocked by his bank.

On May 26, a Gorham Road resident reported a previous incident of identity theft.

Suspicious
On May 26, a Birchall Drive caller reported an unknown person rang her doorbell shortly before midnight and left the scene.

A Coralyn Road resident received a package from Africa and called police because he thought it was suspicious May 27. The package contained a $20 Amazon gift card. The resident threw it away.

On May 27, a Sheldrake Drive caller reported an unknown person rang her doorbell around 4 a.m. and left the scene. Doorbell camera footage showed a man ringing the doorbell. Police found him in the area. He said he had been at a friend’s house and was waiting for an Uber when his cell phone died. He claimed to have rung the wrong doorbell. Police arranged for a taxi to drive him home.

A smoke detector in a dumpster was the source of an unusual beeping sound heard on Horseguard Lane May 29.

Fence
A Circle Road woman reported a portion of her fence was missing and she didn’t know why. Police spoke with the woman’s neighbor who said the fence had gotten damaged in a storm, and she threw out the portion of the damaged fence.

Pedestrians
On May 23, a pedestrian was struck by a car at East Parkway and Spencer Place May 23. She was crossing he street in a crosswalk when a 2015 Chrysler struck her on her left side. She was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Police issued the driver a summons for failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian.

On May 28, a Taunton Road woman reported her 12-year-old son had almost been hit by a car that failed to yield while the boy was trying to walk his bike across the street in the crosswalk at Post and Edgewood roads.

A woman claimed she was pushed by a man at the Scarsdale train station following a disagreement May 28.

Domestic matter
A husband and wife each called police to report that, respectively, they were having a dispute in Edgewood and needed assistance May 28. The wife claimed her husband would not let her eat her dinner. The husband denied the accusation.

Civil matter
On May 24, a Weaver Street resident reported an incident with a hired contractor. The incident involved an argument over services performed and monies owed, after which the contractor allegedly said words to the resident that made her feel uncomfortable about her property.

A woman reported that items were missing from her mother’s Ridgecrest West house May 28. She believed the items, including jewelry, keys and household items, were taken by her siblings who had temporarily been staying at the house from February to April.

Cars and roadways
On May 23, police notified the highway department to remove a fallen limb on wires in front of Madison Road.

A tree was struck by lighting on Vernon Road and a branch was dangling over the street May 23. The highway department was notified, and police marked off the area with caution tape.

Police issued a warning to the owner of a car parked on Chesterfield Road, blocking a driveway, May 23. The owner promptly moved the car at police request.

Verizon was notified about a fallen wire at Heathcote Road and Morris Lane May 23.

A Verizon work truck rear-ended a Ford parked on White Road May 24.

Police asked workers to move vehicles on Morris Lane May 24.

A pothole was reported on Greenacres Avenue May 24.

Con Edison was notified about branches on wires on Rock Creek Lane May 24.

Optimum was notified about fallen wires on Heathcote Road May 24.

Police advised a Fox Meadow Road resident to set up reflective curb markers to prevent cars from parking too close to his driveway May 25.

Police noted a street sign was missing from Mamaroneck and Cushman roads May 27.

Police directed traffic around a road closure due to a fallen primary wire at Weaver Street an Griffen Avenue May 28.

The highway department was notified about a fallen tree on Brewster Road May 28.

Water was flowing into Brewster Road from a clogged sump pump drainage system at a nearby house May 28.

Water was flowing out of a manhole at Secor Road and Reynal Crossing May 28. The highway department was informed for follow-up.

A large branch was removed from Myrtledale and Ransom roads May 28.

Police noted a street sign was missing from Tunstall and Madison roads May 27.

A driver reported a falling stop sign struck her car while she was exiting the Bronx River Parkway at Ardsley Road May 29. The falling stop sign allegedly damaged the driver’s car.

Animals
Police reunited a lost dog with its owner, a resident of the Village, May 24.

On May 24, a coyote was reported on Brewster Road.

Police checked on a dog inside a parked car on Bell Road May 24. The rear hatch of the car was open and the dog appeared healthy. It had a large bowl of water accessible, and the car was not excessively hot.

Kids told police about an injured rabbit in Chase Park May 24. The rabbit did not appear to be gravely injured, but it did seem to be in need of care. Police placed the animal in a clean, dark container with a bottle of warm water for warmth and contacted an animal rehabilitation specialist for assistance.

A dog was reported to be relaxing in an unoccupied car parked on Carman Road May 25. Police checked and confirmed the dog was safe with the door propped open.
On May 27, a bird got stuck in the batting cage. Police opened the cage to release the bird.

A Mayflower Road resident reported a deer was on her property and “was refusing to leave” May 27. It was gone when police arrived.

Village code
On May 24, a Rural Drive solicitor on a Segway was advised that he needed a permit to solicit in the Village.

Police asked noisy kids to keep their voices low while socializing outside on their Sprague Road back patio at night, after neighbors complained May 24.

The manager of a Mamaroneck Road stable reported loud music from a nearby house was disturbing the horses May 25. The situation corrected itself.

On May 26, a Brookby Road homeowner was ordered to obtain a permit before workers on her property could continue tree removal work. The tree in question had fallen during a recent storm, the homeowner said.

On May 29, police advised Richelieu Road residents about a noise complaint about a loud party going on at their house. The residents agreed to reduce the volume of the noise.

Lost and found
On May 24, a passerby found an Apple Air-pod case at the high school track and gave it to the police for safekeeping.

On May 27, a passerby found a purse on Greenacres Avenue and gave it to police. Police returned it to its owner.

An ID card from Guatemala and other personal documents were found on East Parkway May 27.

On May 28, a Palmer Avenue woman reported a lost credit card was placed in her mailbox. Police attempted to return the card to its owner, but was unable to do so.

Firefighters
On May 23, a generator was causing elevated levels of carbon monoxide in a Lenox Place home. Firefighters ventilated the house and suggested relocating the generator.

Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a burning wire that was falling May 23.

Firefighters assisted with a damaged tree on Sycamore Road and assisted by picking up debris from a previous car accident on Crane Road May 23.

Firefighters opened a storm drain cover to retrieve a person’s keys that had dropped into it on East Parkway May 23.

Firefighters assisted at a car accident at Boulevard and Potter Road May 24.

Firefighters investigated a burning odor coming from a Huntington Avenue dryer May 24. They detected a problem with a dryer belt but no fire. A neighbor stopped by and was concerned about the emergency. Firefighters assured her it had no impact on her house.

On May 24, firefighters assisted an Aspen Road resident with an inoperable sump pump and advised the resident to contact a plumber.

Workers were found to be using an improperly constructed trench drain on Fenimore Road May 25. Firefighters shut down he job site and contacted the building department to make sure the trench drain was safe for use. It was determined it needed addition supports to ensure workers’ safety.

On May 27, welders working on a Palmer Avenue elevator ignited cardboard in an elevator shaft. Firefighters contained the fire and promptly extinguished it.

fallentreeA fierce storm hit Scarsdale late Sunday evening May 22, 2022 and took its toll on trees, homes and powerlines. Strong winds took down trees and branches and caused a telephone pole to snap at the intersection of Mamaroneck Road and Lenox Place. Trees fell on homes on Montrose Road and Hutchinson Avenue.

Police began receiving calls at 9 pm and tens of callers continued to report dangerous conditions until 11 pm.

According to Village Manager Rob Cole, the storm left 275 residents without power and closed the following streets:

* Lenox Place (at Mamaroneck Road)

* Heathcote Road (Morris to Sherbrooke Road)

* Palmer (Secor to Bansom Roads)

* Carthage Road (at Heathcote Road)

* White Road (by the Eastchester border)

Stolen cars
A white 2022 BMW X7, valued at $117,000, was stolen from an Eton Road driveway May 17. The car had been left unlocked with the keys inside.

A person walked into headquarters and reported two cars had been stolen from her driveway May 17. One was a gray 2019 Acura RDX and the other was a black 2008 Lexus RX30. On May 20, at 3:30 a.m., White Plains police reported a stolen car, the Acura, had been located in White Plains.

On May 18, a Park Road resident reported his 2022 black Volvo, valued at $40,000, was stolen from the Secor Road after he had left it there overnight after walking home from a party at 2 a.m. When he returned the next day to pick up the car, he realized it was no longer there. The car was later recovered by Westchester County police.

While on patrol, a Scarsdale police officer found himself behind a car that had been reported stolen a few nights ago. Police followed the car undetected while notifying headquarters. Then, on Rock Creek Lane, the car increased its speed and fled, escaping police on the Hutchinson River Parkway.

Car break-ins
On May 16, a Paddington Road woman reported that someone entered her car overnight, rummaged through it and removed a bag of change. Her dog was barking unusually during the night and she believes it might have been when the car was entered.

On May 16, a Drake Road resident reported his cars were entered overnight, but nothing was taken. Video footage showed the perpetrators wearing masks and hoods.

On May 16, a Madison Road resident reported his car was entered overnight, but nothing was taken.

A parked car was blocking a Burgess Road driveway May 19. Police asked the driver to move the car.

On May 20, a Graham Road resident reported a car in her driveway had been entered. She was at an airport and said she’d report more details after she returned home.

Approximately six dollars was stolen from a parked car in a Lawrence Road driveway May 20.

On May 20, a Graham Road resident reported his car was entered but nothing was taken.

On May 20, a Donellan Road resident reported her video surveillance camera captured someone walking up the driveway in black pants, a black hoodie and reflective sneakers. The person ostensibly attempted to enter a parked car, since a neighbor’s car was rummaged through during the same time.

Identity theft
The owner of a Kensington Road house stated that a website posted fraudulent information about house, fraudulently indicating it was the location of a 12-step drug rehab program.

Scam
On May 16, a resident received calls from someone alleging to be an IRS officer, requesting a payment of $10,000. Police advised it was a scam.

Criminal mischief
On May 20, a Boulevard resident reported his house had been egged at 2 a.m., May 19. Video footage captured a group of kids exiting a parked car and throwing eggs at the house. They then got back in the car and drove off.

Civil matter
An Olmsted Road woman reported she was in litigation with a party known to her family, and she believed the party was stalking her. She said she believed the person drove onto her street and looked at her through his closed car window. She later discovered an issue with one of her car’s fuel tanks and wondered if he caused the issue. Police advised to wait for further information from her mechanic.

Dispute
On May 19, a Bell Road resident told police he was uncomfortable with his mother’s boyfriend being at their house, due to a verbal argument over the resident having friends over. Police helped mediate the dispute.

Neighbors
A Fox Meadow Road man reported he was disturbed by his neighbor’s lacrosse balls coming into his yard May 21. The neighbor said he would set up his lacrosse net differently in order to avoid errant balls.

Help
A man said he had walked from Mamaroneck and was looking for the train station at 2:30 a.m., May 19. Police provided him with a courtesy ride to the station.

Storm damage
A Hutchinson Avenue resident reported a tree fell and struck the house May 22.
A tree fell and struck a house on Montrose Road May 22. The roof of the master bedroom was impacted, but no one was injured. The tree also knocked down power lines. Firefighters helped evacuate the resident and notified the building department.

A driver called police to say he was in a truck approaching a low bridge at 12:30 a.m., May 14. He could not provide his specific location. Police transferred the call to Westchester County police.

An empty, broken suitcase was left on Brewster Road May 17. Police asked the sanitation department to pick up the suitcase.

Police removed small fallen branches from Sheldrake Road and taped off an area around a large limb, pending removal by the highway department.

On May 19, police helped a driver whose car ran out of gas on Popham Road while a passerby offered to get gasoline for the car.

On May 21, police stood by a burning wire to prevent partygoers from getting too close to it on Ferncliff Road.

Police replaced a loose manhole cover on Reynal Crossing May 23.

One car accident was officially reported in the Village this week.

Animals
A coyote was reported on Hillandale Close May 16.

A dog got loose and ended up in a neighbor’s yard on Dolma Road May 16. Police leashed it and returned it to its owner. The owner was issued a warning.

On May 18, a Claremont Road woman found a loose dog in White Plains. She brought it home, and police transported it to its owner.

In the interest of public safety, police shot a sick raccoon in a Crane Road parking lot.

A caller reported a dog was inside a parked Tesla on East Parkway and was concerned about the dog’s safety May 20. Police checked on the dog and noticed the car was in “dog mode” and the air conditioning was on.

A dead dog was reported on Post Road May 22. When police got to the scene, they observed the animal was actually a dead opossum. The highway department was informed for pickup.

Village code
Police issued a summons to a landscaper for using a gas-powered leaf blower in violation of Village code May 18.

A neighbor complained of loud teens in a Normandy Lane backyard May 18. Police told the parents to make sure the kids stayed quiet.

Police advised a Mamaroneck Road facility that neighbors had complained about loud music being played at the site May 19.

On May 21, police advised Franklin Road workers they were not permitted to start work until 10 a.m. on Saturdays.

Police advised a Drake Road resident to turn down music volume after neighbors complained of noise May 21.

Lost and found
A passerby found a lock-picking car on a Lockwood Road property and gave it to the homeowner May 16. Police disposed of it.

Firefighters
On May 16, an employee at a Mamaroneck Road kitchen used an extinguisher to put out a kitchen flat top grill grease fire before firefighters arrived. Firefighters shut gas supply to the grill and notified the health department.

Firefighters assisted with cleanup after a car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway May 16.

An odor in a Fox Meadow Road house was possibly related to an overcharged sump pump battery due to the fact that firefighters could not find another cause May 17.

Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of elevated gas levels caused by a leak on Walworth Avenue May 20.

Power washing equipment being used near a fresh air intake into a Hanover Road utility room caused elevated carbon monoxide levels in the house May 20.

Firefighters shut off the equipment and moved it away from the house, as the ventilated the house to restore air quality.

Secondary service wires were arcing and burning between Drake Road and an event facility where a wedding was taking place May 22. The wedding event had lost power, and firefighters provided exterior and interior lighting as a courtesy. They stood by to make sure all guests were safe and awaited Con Edison.

Firefighters informed the water department about a water leak in a Saxon Woods Road basement May 22.

DogwoodCar thefts and recovery: On May 5, police responded to a report of a green Subaru left on Ogden Road, with its windows open and no plates. A check of the VIN number revealed that the car had been stolen out of another location in New Jersey. Police contacted authorities in New Jersey and relocated the car to the impound lot.

On May 5, a Hampton Road resident reported her white 2008 Lexus was stolen from her driveway. It had been parked there unlocked, and the key might have been left inside.

A Scarsdale Avenue employee reported a 2021 Chevy was stolen from a lot backing Scarsdale Avenue. The owner of the car said the key had been missing since yesterday.

Car break-ins
A Palmer Avenue resident reported a larceny attempt, in which a man exited the passenger door of a light-colored sedan at 5:30 a.m., May 5, and tried to open the doors of three cars parked in the driveway. One car – a white Lexus – was unlocked. The car was entered, but nothing was stolen. The man was described as a wearing a hoodie, dark pants with stripes and a mask. Police recovered doorbell camera video surveillance that documented the suspect committing larceny activity.

Identity theft
On May 3, a Brite Avenue resident reported that her credit card was used to make fraudulent purchases through Wayfair. The order was cancelled, and she did not suffer a financial loss.

A Ridgecrest West woman reported that she had previously paid a water bill by check. On May 5, she realized the $196.76 check had been intercepted, stolen and cashed.

Scam
An Overhill Road business owner received a fraudulent email that was allegedly from a doctor’s office with which she does business. The email requested payment. The business owner contacted the doctor’s office for more information and learned that the email had not been sent from them. No financial loss incurred

Cars and roadways
Con Edison was advised about a gas odor on Garth Road May 3.

Police issued a parking summons to the owner of a SUV, parked with flashers on, in a no-parking zone at Farley and Post roads May 3.

Police found a car parked, with scofflaw status, on Christie Place May 3. Due to its location, the car could not be towed without damaging another car. Therefore, police issued appropriate summonses.

A Village resident reported receiving toll bills for a car she sold in July of 2021. A registration check showed that she had in fact surrendered the plates to the vehicle in July 2021, and she had a receipt that documented this from the DMV. Police advised her to contact the agency requesting payment and provide copies of the documentation.

On May 3, police called a tow for a disabled car at Post and Mamaroneck roads.

Police stood by a car with two flat tires at Mamaroneck and Colonial roads until a tow service arrived to provide assistance.

A driver of a black sedan accidentally drove onto an 18-inch stone wall on Dobbs Terrace and got stuck May 5. The driver did not appear injured.

Police arrived and spoke with the driver who said he lost control of his car and mounted the wall. Police called a tow truck to remove the car from the wall.

Police called a tow for a truck that became disabled at Hutchinson Avenue and Meadow Road May 5. Firefighters cleaned up spilled fuel from the roadway, related to the disabled truck. Before the tow arrived, the driver was able to restart the truck and was able to leave the area.

While putting a dislodged manhole cover back in place at Reynal Crossing and Secor Road May 6, police noticed water bubbling up from the ground. Police notified the water department.

Police discarded a scrap section of disconnected utility wire that was entangled in an Eastwoods Road tree May 7.

Police helped a driver change a flat tire on Bypass May 8.

Police asked the driver of a parked car to move the car because it was blocking a Lee Road driveway May 8.

Suspicious
A worker at a Kingston Road house said an unknown white man wearing glasses and a dark gray cap pulled up the driveway in a white Trail Blazer May 3. When the man saw the worker, he seemed “surprised” and took off in his truck. Police canvassed the area but did not find the man.

A Palmer Avenue woman reported concerns about a wooden stake with a red ribbon tied to it that she suddenly found had been placed in her yard May 4. Police contacted the building and engineering departments to see if they could be of assistance or if they knew what the stake might indicate.

A Lockwood Road woman reported that she received a small unmarked envelope on her doorstep May 6. After opening the envelope, she discovered, to her dismay, a used feminine hygiene pad. She does not know who could have left such an item there. Police documented the incident and took the item to the sanitation yard for disposal.

Dirt
A property manager for a Heathcote Road property reported that someone dumped dirt and rocks there without permission May 3. He asked for a report for documentation purposes only.

On May 8, a Palmer Avenue woman reported that a neighbor was digging up dirt from her property. Police arrived and ascertained that there was confusion over the property line. Police advised the neighbors to have their properties surveyed.

Animals
The highway department was notified about a dead rabbit on Ogden Road May 2.
A loose dog was reported on Saxon Woods Road May 3. A resident identified the dog as belonging to a neighbor. The dog was already gone when police arrived.
A coyote was reported in the area of Carthage Lane May 6.
A fox was reported in the area of Fox Meadow Road May 6.

Lost and found
A woman tracked her lost ear pods to a location in Scarsdale on Ridgecrest East, after losing them in New Rochelle. Police contacted the homeowner who advised that she, in fact, found a pair of ear pods in New Rochelle. She returned them to headquarters, and police gave them back to the owner.

Village code
On May 6, police asked a Secor Road party manager to lower the volume of music after neighbors complained.

Police advised a Berkeley Road resident of a noise complaint May 6. The resident said she would move her outdoor gathering inside and lower music volume.

Police dispersed a large group of high-school aged from a Mamaroneck Road location after dark May 6.

Firefighters
On May 2, a small fire was reportedly burning at the base of a tree located in the rear parking lot of a Heathcote Road church. Firefighters and police observed smoke emanating from a small cavity at the tree’s base. No flames were visible at the tree’s exterior, indicating that the fire was confined to the inside of the tree. Firefighters determined the source of the fire was electrical in nature, as a conduit ran beneath the tree. Firefighters used approximately 500 gallons of water to attempt to extinguish the fire. However, this was unsuccessful. Con Edison arrived and asked for the church’s management to call a tree company to cut down the tree so that the electrical fire could be properly addressed.

On May 2, a small grease fire in a stove in a Rectory Lane kitchen self-extinguished before firefighters arrived.

On May 3, firefighters helped police check the welfare of a Lebanon Road resident. Everything was found to be in good order.

On May 4, a reported burning odor inside an Old Lyme Road house was determined to be electrical in nature.

On May 4, firefighters assisted Greenville Fire Department with a structure fire. One firefighter was injured when a piece of ceiling fell, hitting him in the back and neck. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

On May 5, firefighters assisted with two unrelated car accidents on the Hutchinson River Parkway and the Bronx River Parkway.

On May 8, firefighters helped a Crane Road resident solve the problem of a leaking hot water heater. They advised the resident to contact a service technician.

mercedes2Stolen car: On May 11, a Hampton Road resident reported his $83,000 2022 Mercedes was stolen from his driveway overnight. Later that day, the car was located in Pennsylvania with temporary tag plates reported as stolen out of New Jersey.

On May 15, around 3:30 a.m., a gray BMW passed a police cruiser on Post Road and police received hit on the license plate reader that the plates had been reported as stolen out of New Jersey. Police lost the car in a pursuit and broadcast a notification for other units to canvas the area for the car. Near Fenimore Road, police noticed the BMW speeding toward Greenburgh with another car close behind, also speeding. For safety reasons, the pursuit was called off. Greenburgh police were notified. Later, a license plate reader showed the cars on the Hutchinson River Parkway heading toward New York City. The other car’s license plate revealed the other car was registered to a former resident of Scarsdale who had family members in the Village. It was a black BMW. A check with the family members revealed the car had just been stolen from their driveway.

Car break-in attempt
On May 15, a Greenacres Ave. resident reported that a gray or green sedan pulled into his driveway, and a person exited and attempted to open the doors of a car parked in his driveway.

Identity theft
On May 9, a Dell Road woman reported her credit card was used at Walmart.com overnight, in the amount of $200. The transaction was flagged as fraudulent and cancelled by Walmart’s fraud detection system.

On May 12, a Village resident reported someone had fraudulently opened a Home Depot credit card in his name.

Check fraud
On May 11, an Overlook Road resident reported that someone attempted to pass a fraudulent check written against her account.

Suspicious
A Herkimer Road caller reported seeing a person in a dark colored sedan stop outside of a mailbox on the street and open it May 12. Nothing was observed being taken from the mailbox.

On May 15, a woman called Greenburgh police stating she was being followed by a stalker, and she was afraid her “phone would die.” Greenburgh police provided Scarsdale police with a possible address. Scarsdale police went to the location but could not find the woman or a possible stalker.

Civil matter
On May 12, a Continental Road woman said her babysitter was refusing to leave the house even though her employment had been terminated. The babysitter told police she could only vacate the residence on June 1. Police advised the parties to consult with their attorneys for this civil matter.

Cars and roadways
On May 9, a hit-and-run car accident caused property damage to the high school.

Summonses were issued to the owners of cars parked on grass at Winston Field May 9.

An abandoned duffel bag was left at Spencer Place and East Parkway May 10. Its owner picked it up while police were on scene.

Police helped the owner of a Ford Taurus with a mechanical problem at Post and Fenimore roads May 10.

On May 10, police picked up a fallen branch from Saxon Woods Road.

A caller reported observing an aggressive driver in a white car on Post Road May 11.

On May 11, police issued summonses to the owner of a car that was missing a front license plate and that also had an unsafe tire.

Patrol placed traffic cones in two potholes on Weaver Street and notified the highway department about the road damage.

Police notified the highway department about a broken stairway railing on Wayside Lane May 12.

On May 14, police helped a driver move his car to a safe location after the car suffered a blown tire.

On May 15, police helped a driver get to a gas station for assistance.

A car was parked on the grass on Fox Meadow Road May 15. Police contacted the owner of the car to correct the condition.

On May 15, police issued a summons to the White Plains driver of a car who was operating the car with a suspended registration and without insurance. The plates were removed, and the car was impounded.

Four car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.

Animals
On May 9, police at Post and Huntington roads seized a loose, black, hound-mix dog. Police took the dog to headquarters, where its owner, who had called dispatch looking for his loose dog, retrieved it. A summons was issued for having a dog at large.

On May 10, police notified the highway department about a dead raccoon carcass at the corner of Post Road and Wayside Lane.

The highway department was notified about a backed-up sewer line on Forest Lane May 10.

On May 11, police notified the highway department about a dead rodent on the Wayside Lane tennis courts.

A Brambach Road caller reported a possibly injured rabbit was in his yard May 12, Police observed a rabbit lying on his side and provided the caller with the contact information of several local trappers.

On May 13, a coyote was reported near Garden and Mamaroneck roads.

A rabbit got stuck in a soccer net in a Berwick Road yard May 13. Police helped to release the rabbit.

Village code
On May 10, a Post Road resident advised that a neighbor was screaming from her window for an unknown reason. Police checked on the neighbor, who was not screaming at the time. She said she was fine and did not request any assistance.

After neighbors complained of noise, police advised a Secor Road party manager of the complaint, despite not finding the noise to be unreasonable, May 14.

Three males accused of making noise on Huntington Avenue said they were waiting for an Uber and would be leaving soon May 15.

Lost and found
On May 11, a passerby found a debit card on Depot Place and gave it to police. Patrol notified Visa that the card had been found, and a Visa representative said she would contact the cardholder to relay the information.

The owner of a lost wallet picked it up at headquarters May 14.

On May 15, police located the owner of an iPhone found on East Parkway and returned the phone to the owner.

On May 15, a Palmer Avenue woman reported finding a ladder in her yard. She said she did not remember putting it there and had no idea how it got there. Due to the amount of leaves and yard debris covering the ladder, police advised it might have been there for a long time. Police told her she could dispose of the ladder.

Firefighters
On May 11, firefighters assisted with a two-car accident at Post and Drake roads. The accident involved a dump truck and a sedan. The sedan had damage to the front end and was underneath the rear tow hitch of the dump truck. The sedan’s driver and passenger were evaluated by Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps and taken to the hospital.

On May 12, firefighters used a lock tool through an open car window to help release a dog that accidentally got locked inside a car on Greenacres Avenue.

On May 12, firefighters assisted at a car accident on Crossway.

On May 13, firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a gas leak on River Road.

An overheated motor in an air handler in a Secor Road house caused a burning odor May 14. Firefighters shut down the unit and advised the homeowner to call a technician for repair.

dogbiteStolen: A caller reported a man from a “work truck” was trying to steal bins of recyclables on Black Birch Lane April 26. The caller said she observed the man place her bin into his truck. She confronted him, and he emptied the bin and returned it. However, he kept the recyclables.

Fire in Hartsdale

On Wednesday May 4, 2022 at approximately 10:10 AM Greenburgh Police and EMS units responded to 260 S. Healy Ave for a residential structure fire. The Hartsdale, Greenville, Scarsdale and Fairview Fire Departments also responded. The responding agencies arrived to find a fully engulfed residential structure fire. The fire departments extinguished the fire but it unfortunately claimed the life of one of the residents. Greenburgh Police Department Detectives were notified and responded to investigate. The fire is at this time believed to be accidental in nature. The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team will be reviewing the incident. 

Car break-ins

On April 28, a Hathaway Road woman reported someone had open her parked car and rummaged through it. Nothing was stolen from the car.

Identity theft

On April 25, a caller reported that his Social Security number was attached to an address in New Jersey. Police advised him to follow up with the credit reporting agencies.

In April 25, a Crane Road school employee reported that a fraudulent check was written against the school’s account. The check, for over $8,562.12, was not cashed due to insufficient funds in the account.

On May 1, a Walworth Avenue resident reported that personal information was revealed to a person posing as a Con Edison representative.

Help

An Edgewood man asked police to provide assistance in dealing with his intoxicated wife April 28. She declined medical assistance and only asked for transportation help to get to an urgent appointment. After police unsuccessfully tried to order a taxi, patrol provided a courtesy ride.

A woman dropped her keys through a grate at Garth and Freightway roads April 28. Police were able to retrieve them.

An Ogden Road man reported flooding on the property line caused by a neighbor’s pump device April 28. Police spoke with the neighbor who said the pump was being used to drain accumulated water. The neighbor turned off the pump and apologized for the flooding. Police noted a dip in the ground at the property line, which exacerbated any flooding conditions. They advised both parties to consult with the building department.

Vehicle and traffic law arrest

On April 28, police arrested Roderick Valdes, 35, of Spring Valley, on charges of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver and an equipment violation. Police pulled over Valdes’s car, a 2006 Nissan, on Post Road because it did not have an adequate rear license plate lamp. When checking Valdes’s license, it became clear that the license had been suspended because of driving while ability impaired by alcohol on Feb. 14, 2019. Additionally, there were eight suspensions, for eight scoffs on four dates. Police then arrested Valdes. He was released on his own recognizance and ordered to appear in court on May 18.

Cars and roadways

Police helped a caller change a tire on a car at Ridgedale and Springdale roads April 25.

Police assisted a caller with a VIN verification April 26.

A wheel of a truck fell into a hole on Cooper Road and the truck got stuck April 26.

Police provided traffic control until a tow truck could arrive.

On April 26, a caller reported a man sleeping in his car while parked on the grass near Hutchinson River Parkway ramps and Mamaroneck Road. Police responded and spoke with the man. He advised he had pulled over to rest but said he would move the car to another location, such as a parking lot.

Two people talking inside a parked car at Tunstall and Madison roads agreed to move their car to a different location April 26.

Police notified Verizon about a fallen wire on Black Birch Lane April 27.

On April 29, a caller advised that a black Honda CRV sideswiped the caller’s car on Forest Lane and left the scene.

On May 1, police assisted a motorist who ran out of gas safely wait for replacement gasoline.

Police issued summonses to the owners of improperly parked cars on Potter Road May 1.

Two car accidents were reported in the Village this week.

Dogs

On April 29, a person reported that while walking by a Tompkins Road house, a leashed dog walked by, and the dog jumped on the person’s back. No injuries were reported.

On May 1, a Mohican Trail resident reported that a coyote was in her yard, trying to “get her dog.” The coyote was barking aggressively. The resident said she was banging pots and pans to scare off the coyote, and the coyote left.

Lost and found

On April 25, a caller reported losing a silver tote bag with a colorful wallet on Harwood Court. The last time she remembered seeing the bag was on the sear of her car parked on Harwood Court.

On April 27, a commuter reported losing her wallet at he Scarsdale train station. Later, she concluded the wallet had most likely been stolen.

A passerby found a debit card near the library and gave it to police April 27. Police contacted a credit card service number, and the representative who answered the phone said she would inform the cardholder of the wallet’s location.

A caller found a wallet, with an integrated phone, credit cards and cash, on the road at Hampton and Whig roads April 29.

The manager of Starbucks on East Parkway reported finding three bags – one containing cosmetic items, one containing clothing and one containing notebooks and a laptop – in front of the store April 30. After unsuccessfully trying to find the owner of the bags, police vouchered them for safekeeping at headquarters.

Village code

On April 28, police issued a summons to a landscaper for using a gas-powered leaf blower on Barry Road.

A Lee Road resident reported two men in their 20s were soliciting for solar panels on her street April 28. She did not know if they had a permit. Police caught up with the men and confirmed they had a permit.

Police advised the manager of Fenway Golf Club of a noise complaint April 30.

Firefighters

On April 26, firefighters were called to a Garden Road house to investigate an odor of rotten eggs. The house trap was found to be open, creating an accumulation of hydrogen sulfide. Firefighters ventilated the space and advised the homeowner to call a plumber to replace the trap cap.

A child got stuck in a swing at Colonial Park April 27. Firefighters were dispatched to free the child.

A two-year-old Ridgecrest North child was having difficulty breathing and was going in and out of consciousness April 27. Firefighters and SVAC provided assistance and took the child to Westchester Medical Center.

Firefighters provided assistance at the scene of a car accident at Hamilton and Richelieu roads April 29.

On April 30, firefighters helped a person locked out of her Greendale Road house get back inside.

Firefighters assisted a Christie Place resident with a microwave April 30.

Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a carbon monoxide alarm activation in a White Road house April 30. Firefighters ventilated the house and determined the boiler was malfunctioning. Natural gas was shut to the boiler, and firefighters advised that a plumber service the unit before it could be used again.
