markesejonesAnother attempted bank fraud led to a high-speed police chase -- including helicopters and a K-9 unit on Friday morning June 15. Police got a call from TD Bank on Central Avenue to report that a woman had just attempted a fraudulent withdrawal of $4,800 from another customer’s account. When the bank employees refused to give her the funds, the woman left the bank and fled the scene in a Blue Infiniti. Greenburgh police spotted the speeding car but were unable to stop it, before the car headed north on the Sprain Brook Parkway at Jackson Avenue. Going more than 100 miles per hour police decided to abort the chase but kept visual contact on the suspect. Police caught up with the car when it was found disabled and unoccupied on the southbound Dobbs Ferry Road entrance ramp to the Sprain – after it drove through a locked security gate.

With help from the Ardsley, Elmsford, Mount Pleasant. NYS and Westchester County Police an extensive search was conducted for the woman and three male suspects. They used police cars, air support and K-9 units and found the driver of the car in a wooded area off Dobbs Ferry Road, uninjured.

He was identified as Markese C. Jones age 22 of Beacon, NY and charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree (a Felony), Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle in the 2nd Degree (Misdemeanors) and several other traffic violations. He is being held pending arraignment.

The other suspects got away but police continue to search for them.

 

burglarBurglary on Colonial Road: Thieves used a crow bar to pry open a kitchen door and get into a home on Colonial Road sometime between 6 am and 7:15 pm on 6/8. They also opened a Verizon phone panel, cut the wires and pulled the alarm keypad off the wall. Once inside, they heavily tossed the master bedroom, and made off with jewelry and a pillow case which they presumably used to cart off the stolen goods. The resident will provide police with a list of the missing items.

Police responded to a burglar alarm at Savona Restaurant in downtown Scarsdale at 1:29 am on June 5th. They found pry marks on the door to the restaurant but were unable to determine if these marks were made that night or were already there.

Thefts: A Taunton road woman reported that a pair of diamond stud earrings valued at $6,900 had disappeared from her home sometime between April 26 and May 1. Nothing else was missing from the house.

A Murray Hill Road woman reported the theft of her blackberry. She believes it was taken when shescarsdale-police-car200wasattending Truck Day at Scarsdale Library on Tuesday May 5th. When she got a replacement phone she started to receive text messages from an unknown person. She received a report on the use of the stolen phone and found that someone had used it to send 84 text messages between 6/5 and 6/6. When she called the phone number of the “texter” she was told that the woman who has the phone has a mother who works as a nanny in Scarsdale.

A Meadow Road man reported that a 20-foot aluminum ladder valued at $150 was removed from his yard on 6/8.

Between 6/6 and 6/10 someone entered the storage unit belonging to a Chateaux Circle woman and stole her property and damaged the unit.

Identity Thefts: A Mamaroneck Road man reported that someone had used his identity to open an Amazon credit card account on February 1 and make $10,000 in purchases from Apple and Best Buy. He learned of the fraud when he got a call from Chase saying he was overdrawn on his account – though he doesn’t have a Chase credit card. The man was able to find the address that had been used for the card and lead detectives to the house.

On June 5th a man from Old Lyme Road reported that 13 fraudulent charges, totaling $3,000 had been made on his credit card between April 30th and May 10th.

A Webster Road man complained that an employee at the Shell Station on Scarsdale Avenue had failed to return his credit card after he purchased gas there on June 1. His card was subsequently used to purchase $269 worth of gas by someone at the station. He cancelled the card when he learned about the fraudulent charges.

Accident: At 8 pm on June 6, a Garden Road woman lost control of her 2012 Mercedes on Saxon Woods Road near Boulder Brook, and struck a tree trunk. The accident caused the car to turn over onto its roof. Inside the car with the driver were two 12 year-old children. The occupants were trapped in the car and required assistance to get out. Police did not report any injuries.

Vandalism: On Leatherstocking Lane an exterior lamp was damaged sometime on 6/6 or 6/7. The resident of the house did hear kids in the street on the night of 6/6 and saw a Jeep Wrangler Speed off. He also found beer cans in the street near his house.

On Gatehouse Road another mailbox was damaged overnight on 6/6 – 6/7. When the homeowner found it, it appeared that it had been struck and was leaning sideways.

At 9:30 pm on 6/8, a Fox Meadow Road woman heard the sound of glass shattering outside and found her exterior lamp broken as well.

On 6/9 a Brite Avenue man reported damage to two of his exterior lamps but believed it may have been caused by his landscaper.

Streaking? Police received a report that kids were streaking at Edgewood School at 6: 19 pm on 6/9 – however when police arrived, no streakers were to be found.

Arrests: This week, additional charges were filed against Fern Davis, age 44 of Mt. Vernon, the woman who was arrested for defrauding Chase Bank on 6/6. After an investigation, police learned that Davis had also entered the bank previously on May 24th at 12:50 pm and 1:30 pm and withdrawn $8,545 by falsely representing herself as another Chase customer.

Jospeh J. Pelligrin of New Paltz surrendered to police on June 10 in response to a bench warrant dating back to February, 2009. His dad paid the $200 bail and he was booked, released and given a June 27th court appearance date.

On the evening of 6/7 police got a call from a man who spotted a man holding a shotgun at the intersection of Hutchinson Avenue and Weaver Street. Police went to the scene and found the suspect who said he had an air rifle that he removed from the trunk of his car and took into the house. He apologized for causing the incident.

In response to a report that there was noise coming from 54 Sheldrake, which is under construction, police went to the address. There they found four raccoons making noise in a dumpster.

lightningLightning struck a Ridgecrest East home on Monday morning 5/21 and blew out a sprinkler control box causing light smoke in the basement. The homeowner called police when she heard a bang inside the house. The sprinkler control box was knocked off the wall by the strike. Fire Captain Saviano of the Scarsdale Fire Department said firefighters went to a few homes in the area due to calls from concerned residents but other than tripped circuit breakers it was a “non event.”

Shattered: Greenburgh Police responded to a burglar alarm at Loehmann's on Tarrytown Road at 1:40 am on 5/21 and found the front glass windows shattered. Police searched the area and found a man walking near the Wine Warehouse in the same shopping center. When they stopped him they found that he had kicked in one of the windows and then rammed a shopping cart through the front doors. He was identified as Stephen Donnell Muehling (pictured at right) age 28 of St. Louis and was arrested for criminal mischief.

Drunk drivers: An investigation by the Scarsdale Police led to the arrest of David M. Hill of New Rochelle on 5/16 for leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license. Hill is accused of running into the car of a Scarsdale woman shortly after midnight on 5/12 on East Parkway and fleeing the scene. Based on information from the victim, police were able to identify Hill’s car and his identity. Hill had previously been arrested for drunk driving and failure to answer a summons.

Just after midnight on 5/18 a similar incident occurred. Police came upon Franco Caputi of the Bronx on Garth Road who said he was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Popham and Garth Roads when he was rear-ended by another car. Police went to the scene of the accident and interviewed both drivers. They found that the man who had rear-ended Caputi was drunk. The inebriated man identified himself as James N. Maxwell of Garth Road and admitted to drinking beer earlier in the evening at the Brazen Fox in White Plains. When he failed sobriety tests he was taken to headquarters and booked for aggravated DWI with a BAC level of .18 or more. He was released on $250 to his brother and given a court appearance date.

A Volvo parked at a Bradley Road home was entered overnight on 5/15 and $50 was taken from the glove compartment. The owner believes it was left unlocked as there was no damage to the car.

On the afternoon of 5/18, the rear window of a car parked on Ogden Road was shattered. The damage may have been caused by a ball thrown by kids playing in the area.

Vandalism: A lamp post at a Tisdale Road home was damaged overnight from 5/14-5/15. This was the second time the lamp post was vandalized. The homeowner also reported that she found graffiti painted in red on a large tree in the backyard and on an outdoor wall. She believes this occurred sometime between 5/14 and 5/17.

Sometime between 5/14 and 5/16, a new wooden fence at a Taunton Road home was kicked numerous times and damaged. Police found footprints near the damaged fence which was dislodged.

A 2010 Toyota was scratched with a sharp object while it was parked in the Christie Place garage on the afternoon of May 18. The car belongs to a Rego Park man.

Bike Theft: A Northrock Mountain Bike that belonged to a Scarsdale man and was valued at $320 was stolen from the bike rack on East Parkway sometime between 7 am and 7:30 pm on 5/14.

Identity Theft: On 5/18, the caretaker for a 45-year-old Secor Road man reported that the victim received two letters indicating identity theft. One was from Discover Car noting a declined credit card and the other was a change of a address for the man’s life insurance policy to a Brooklyn address. The credit bureau and insurance company were alerted.

Unwanted visitor: A Brewster Road woman called police when a man came to the back door of her house at 8:20 on the morning of 5/14 and began to enter her house. She confronted him and he claimed to be a plumber who was told to come in the back door. However, he had the wrong address.

Ruth Frankel of Richbell Road called police on the morning of 5/15 to complain that her neighbor was having trees planted on the property line that will eventually grow over her property. She was advised to call the Building Department who explained that they do not deal with landscaping issues and informed her that this was a civil matter.

Police received a complaint about the volume of the music coming from Saxon Woods Grill on the night of 5/17. They spoke to personnel at the Grill who agreed to turn it down.

Lit up: Police got a call about a man lighting paper on fire and waving to cars at the corner of Popham and Tisdale Roads on the afternoon of 5/18. When police arrived they found a New Rochelle man who said that he was trying to light a cigarette and it became engulfed in flames. He also said he was lost so police drove him home.

Greenburgh:

An aggressive man tried to enter a Fort Hill Road home on the afternoon of 5/14. He knocked on the door and insisted that the housekeeper let him in, claiming that his elderly father was across the street and needed help. When she refused to let him in, he got into a red SUV and drove away. When police arrived, they found that another neighbor had the same experience when the man came to the door of a Spencer Court home and asked for money.

Playing Hooky: An employee of Best Buy on Central Avenue called police at 1 pm on 5/15 to report that a child had been playing video games in the store for hours. Police approached the juvenile who admitted he had skipped school. His sister came to take him home.

A set of golf clubs was stolen from the trunk of a Toyota 4Runner parked on Burns Street in Hartsdale overnight from 5/15 to 5/16. The clubs were valued at $5,000.

A 24-speed bike valued at $550 was stolen from the Hartsdale Station on 5/17. The bike belonged to a Walworth Avenue man from Scarsdale.

Missing: A 19-year-old woman who lives at a residential home on Old Army Road was reported missing by the director of the facility on 5/18.

 

 

jeannequigleyWith the help of a concealed video camera, Oak Way residents discovered that their nanny/housekeeper was stealing items from their home. The video showed the housekeeper entering unauthorized areas of the house without permission and removing their possessions. In addition, the residents taped a conversation with the housekeeper in which she admitted to stealing $120.00 in cash and a suitcase valued at $100. Also taken were a $1,500 diamond wedding ring and a sterling silver comb and brush set. After the residents confronted the woman, some of the items were returned and she was terminated. The thefts took place between April 1, 2011 and November 30, 2011 and were reported on 5/30, 2012.

An investigation by the Scarsdale Police lead to the arrest of Jeanne Quigley, age 47 of New Rochelle for Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property on June 4th. Police recovered more of the Oak Way resident’s property from Quigley’s home and she was arraigned in Scarsdale Court on June 6th.

Aggressive driver: An angry motorist got nasty with the Scarsdale Police on the evening of 5/31 after they pulled her over for driving south in the northbound lane of East Parkway. She jumped out of her car near Depot Place, approached a police officer in his car and yelled, “don’t you have robbers and murderers to catch?” Police asked her to get back into her car and she complied but when police approached her in her car she jumped out again and yelled at the officers. She eventually handed over her license and registration and was issued a summons.

Followed: On 5/29 a Wayside Lane woman reported that her ex-husband has hired a private investigator to follow her 24/7. The P.I. was in her driveway on a Sunday and when she took a photo of him he told her not to take photos of him while driving. On 5/30 she returned to police headquarters to complain that the P.I. was following her everywhere, even into to the police parking lot. Police went outside to speak to the man but told the woman that the P.I. is permitted to trail her. If she felt harassed, they told here she would need to go to court to file a complaint.

Thefts: A former resident of Rock Creek Lane who now lives in Bronxville reported that her 2.9 carat diamond ring, valued at $25,000 was stolen from her Scarsdale home sometime between February 10 and April 1 during the time she was preparing to move out of the house.

On 6/2 a Secor Road resident reported that silver and gold bracelets, valued at $2,500 were missing from her home. She had been away for several days during April and May and various people including contractors, a dog sitter and the housekeeper had access to her home.

Arrests: Silvio Flores, age 61 of Mount Vernon surrendered himself to police on 5/29 in response to a bench warrant. He was charged with speeding and driving without a valid license on 3/21/12 and his failure to appear for a court date on 5/16/12. Flores was released on $100 bail.

Stephanie Selgado, age 22 of White Plains surrendered herself to Scarsdale Police on 5-31 in response to a bench warrant for an offense dating back to January 2010. She was released on $100 bail and given a court appearance date of June6, 2012.

Deaths: Michael J. O’Neill, age 88 of Cayuga Road passed away between 6:30 and 7:30 pm on May 29th. O’Neill was pronounced dead by his michaeloneill2physician, Dr. Paul Pechman of Scarsdale. O’Neill died from pulmonary fibrosis. O’Neill was formerly the editor of the New York Daily News. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jane and four children.

Jean Glazer, age 94 of North Chase Road in Scarsdale died on June 2nd. She was found unresponsive by her live-in nurse.

Mischief: Outdoor light fixtures, valued at $375, were damaged at a Cooper Road home sometime between May 25 and May 29. About a month ago four of the fixtures were damaged by vandals and subsequently repaired by the homeowner.

Identity Theft: On 6/2 a Greenacres Avenue man reported that between 5/23 and 5/25 someone had used his American Express card to make $250 in unauthorized purchases. Merchandise that was purchased online arrived at his Greenacres Avenue home.

Noise:

  • At 10 pm on 5/31 a Griffen Road man complained about loud music coming from the Saxon Wood Road Grill on Mamaroneck Road. Police went to the restaurant and asked them to turn it down and they complied.
  • At 11:47 pm on 5/31 police received a report about noisy kids playing basketball at Greenacres field. Police told the boys that it was after hours and they left.
  • At midnight on 6/1, in response to a complaint, police went to a Johnson Road home where there was a party on to ask them to keep the noise down.
  • Police received a report of fireworks going off on the Fox Meadow School field on the night of 6/3 – but by the time they arrived no one was there.

Fight: At 10 pm on 6/1 Eastchester Police called Scarsdale Police for help breaking up a big fight among kids at the intersection of Winterhill Road and the Post Road. Scarsdale sent a few patrol cars and the crowd was dispersed.

marxFlood: At 10 am on June 2, a Gatehouse Road man called police about water flowing out of the Marx home on Gatehouse Lane. Police found a workman pumping water out of the basement of the house but the workman did not respond when police told him to stop. After several attempts to speak to the man, police cut off the power to the house. The foreman arrived and said they were removing asbestos from the house and police ordered them to stop until the Building Department could come and ascertain whether contaminated water was being pumped out of the house. The house has been cleared for demolition by the Scarsdale Committee for Historic Preservation and will soon come down.  Three new homes will be built on the property.

Animals: Dog doo – On May 28 a Sheldrake Road man complained that a neighbor continually allows her dog to defecate on his lawn and does not clean it up.

Squirrel in the house: An Innes Road woman called police for help on the afternoon of 6/2 when she found a squirrel in her kitchen. Police were able to “escort” the animal outside.

Edgemont and Greenburgh Police Report:

In the continuing dispute between neighbors on South Healy Road in Scarsdale, police were called at 7 am on Tuesday 5/29 Audrey Pierot complained that Michael Marom was doing work on his property after work hours and in violation of a stop work order. She also complained about debris Marom had left on the property and that he had knocked over her garbage cans and driven over them. He said, "I didn't knock down the garbage can, my vehcile did." and made reference to doing it again on the next garbage pick up date.

Dig Gig: On June 1, a resident saw a man digging up a small area in front of the man's home on Westminster Road in Scarsdale. He asked what he was doing and the man said he was a surveyor. Someone else spoke with him and he wouldn’t give a company name but said he would provide a business card later on, which he never did. One man wrote the license plate number of the diggers car.

Lingering Man: A woman called the police on June 4 because she said she felt uncomfortable leaving her job at Beach Bum Tanning on Central Avenue. There was a man parked in a car in front of the tanning salon who had been staring at her for an hour and a half. When she finally got into her car he drove off. She did not recognize him.

Glue Ado: On May 29, police came to Tarrytown Jewelers on North Central Avenue because an unknown party put glue in the door lock on the front door to the business, making it inoperable.

Park Shark: On May 29, there were three incidents at East Rumbrooke Park in Hartsdale. Rick Alicca went to the park to play basketball. When he returned to his vehicle, he found a smashed front passenger windshield and discovered that his iPhone was missing. Kenneth Palma arrived at the park to play softball. He left his wallet in his car with the doors unlocked. When he returned, his wallet, which contained $300 in cash, credit cards, and his license were missing along with his cell phone. Thomas Lorie was also playing softball. He found that the window of his 2011 Mercedes Benz was smashed though no items were taken from his car.

An officer responded to reports by witnesses on May 29 that a man had slapped his 3-year-old daughter in a restaurant parking lot on Central Avenue. He reportedly slapped her on the behind and was very forceful and physically aggressive in handling her. He admitted to slapping his child and became enraged at witnesses for interfering in his personal affairs.

On the night of May 30, a resident of High Point Drive in Hartsdale, NY reported that her mother has continuously harassed her in the past and most recently contacted her previous employer to find out where she is working. Her mother has tried to get her daughter's boyfriend arrested and has threatened to take away her daughter's children. Her mother has also threatened to hurt her daughter.

Thefts:
Buy Buy Baby Monitor Thief: On May 30, an officer responded to a call from Buy Buy Baby. The employee told the officer that a robber ran up to a wooded area next to the store, but police couldn’t find him. He was reported to be a black male, 35-40 years old wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans, had a goatee and was heavy set. He has stolen baby monitors in the past. Three monitors were missing this time. He usually gets into a brown colored sedan and is accompanied by at least 2 other males. The missing merchandise was valued at $500.00

Need a cop in Game Stop: On May 30, police got a call from Game Stop on Central Avenue where someone stole various Apple products valued at $2049.89. The store manager provided descriptions of the two me who had fled with the goods.

Shoplifting at ShopRite: On June 4, Joanne Spinella, age 58 of Yonkers was caught leaving ShopRite on Central Avenue with $86.04 in unpaid merchandise.

Welfare Check: Police responded to 1025 Colony Drive, Hartsdale for a welfare check on the afternoon of 5/31. The police received a call from a concerned party who said she hasn’t spoken with the resident in 2 weeks and that he is bipolar and starves himself. The man in the home claimed he was fine and that he didn’t hear the police knocking because he was asleep. The police explained that his family and friends are worried that he doesn’t eat or take his medication. John said he has been eating out and doesn’t need medication. A check of the kitchen revealed no food. The stove and fridge were unplugged. He was voluntarily transported to the White Plains ER.

On May 13, Greenburgh Police Department Communications received a call on the suicide hotline from a suicidal male waiting for police assistance on the corner of Edgemont Road and Ardsley Road. The caller reported that he had been drinking and was feeling suicidal. He voluntarily requested transport to White Plains Hospital to speak with a psychiatrist.

Arrested: On May 30, the Greenburgh Drug and Alcohol Task Force saw a car speeding on the Sprain Brook Parkway. There was a marijuana cigarette in the front center ashtray in plain view of officers standing outside. The driver, Troy D Garrett Jr., age 26 of Peekskill and the front passenger, John Edward Kingsley, age 23 of Peekskill, were both arrested.

Double Whammy: On May 28, an officer observed a car parked illegally in a fire zone on Central Avenue. It was revealed that the registered owner and driver, David Morton, was wanted for a bench warrant from the village of Port Chester. Morton is a 56-years-old and from White Plains. He was detained in his vehicle but released shortly afterwards since the village of Port Chester refused to extradite him.

scarspolicecarA Scarsdale teen reported that the father of a former friend harassed her on the night of May 9th. The girl was outside Westchester Reform Temple at 8:40 at night when the man drove up and said to her, “Do you have any plans tonight?” She replied “no,” and the man said, “why don’t you just shut the fuck up.” The girl was fearful and alarmed and reported that the man’s daughter, the former friend, was in the car and laughing at the time her father made the remarks. The man, who lives on Bobby Close, was accused of harassment.

A 26 year-old Crawford Lane woman was arrested for criminal contempt on 5/11 when she returned to the home of her mother in violation of an order of protection. Since she was ordered to stay away, her mother called the police.

Death: Jaegene Hwang, age 81 of Penn Boulevard died at home on the night of May 7th. Hwang’s wife called police when she found him unresponsive. The man was a registered DNR patient.

Car break-in at Scarsdale Middle School: A car belonging to a Greendale Road woman was vandalized when it was parked at the Scarsdale Middle School on the afternoon of May 8th. The rear driver’s side window of the 2012 Mercedes Benz was broken and a purse that was on the back seat was taken. A pry mark was found near the broken window. The bag contained $400 in cash as well as id’s, credit cards, ATM cards and sunglasses.

Missing: An unspecified amount of cash and 2 keys to a safe deposit box were reported stolen by a Garden Road woman. The money and the keys had been in a small wooden box in a locked closet in her upstairs bedroom. She said the theft took place between 4/15 and 4/30 and she made the report on 5/13.

A Black Birch Lane woman reported that two checks, totaling $440 were drawn from her account on March 30, 2012. A checkbook was missing from her box of checks and someone wrote two without her authorization.

Vandalism: The address sign at 1113 Post Road was stolen overnight from 5/12- 5/13.

A Walworth Avenue man called police to report damage to his front lawn. He heard noise at 3 am on 5/13 and when he awoke the following morning it appeared that a car had driven over the Belgian blocks that line his property and dislodged the blocks, damaged the lawn, shrubs and a storm drain.

Angry Cats: At 12:36 am on 5/8 a Harcourt Road woman called police to say that an unknown animal was screaming and howling in her basement. When police arrived they found two cats in a basement window well. The cats ran off when the police arrived.

Decorating Dispute: A Secor Road woman called police on the morning of 5/9 about a dispute with her decorator. She had paid the decorator 92% of the bill, pending completion of the job but the unhappy decorator sent the Scarsdale woman a text that said, “I will take any legal action necessary to collect the amount owed to me.” Police advised her that this was a civil matter.

Tree Trouble: On 5/7 a Harvest Road man complained that workers from a tree company were on his property. They were in the process of removing trees from a neighbors property that overhung onto his property. The tree company agreed to leave his property.

At Church: The initials GiK, written with a red marker, were found on a shed door at Scarsdale Community Baptist Church on 5/11.

The Monsignor of IHM called police at 5:41 pm on 5/9 when a group of young men was making noise in the parking lot. When police arrived, the men left without incident.

At St. James the Less the remains of a cigar and two empty glassine envelopes were found in the parking lot on Sunday morning. The Church will check their video tape to see who may have been in the parking lot the prior night.

Identity Theft: A Boulevard resident came to police headquarters on May 8th to report multiple incidents of identify theft. Home Depot called to discuss a recently opened credit card account in his name that he did not open. When he called Citibank to let them know about the Home Depot account he learned that an account had also been opened at JC Penney in his name. When he contacted his bank he found out that someone had attempted to access his credit card account and requested a replacement card. As a result, he incurred a fee of $15.

A Greenacres Avenue woman also reported fraudulent transactions on her credit card – one from a toupee shop and another for a Dell computer. The report was made on 5/10 and the incidents occurred between 5/5 and 5/10.
