The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) is seeking volunteers for Minds in Motion, an exciting education program that gives fourth grade students the opportunity to collaboratively write, storyboard, direct and produce an original stop-motion animated film. The curriculum integrates elements of science, technology, math and language arts for a dynamic project-based learning experience. More than 3,500 students have participated in Minds in Motion since 2003.
This past summer, students created films such as, “Hungry for Stuffing”, “The Pickle in a Pickle”, and “A Soda’s Night Out”, and that’s just a small sample.
All volunteers participate in a training session taught by JBFC faculty. By the end of the half-day training at JBFC’s Media Arts Lab, you will be ready to support the children in their exciting animation projects.
MIinds in Motion culminates with a Red Carpet Premiere for friends and family at the JBFC. At the Premiere, students have the thrill of seeing their work on a big screen, surrounded by a large and appreciative audience. The evening includes a red-carpet entrance by the young filmmakers, a screening of the films, an awards presentation and a reception.
Minds in Motion is a 12-week course that takes places at elementary schools and community service organizations in Westchester County. Volunteers are needed to support the lead instructor by working with small groups of 8–10 children. Each session is two hours long. Volunteers must commit to all 12 sessions.
