On a cool and sunny summer morning, the Arthur Manor Neighborhood Association held its 97th Annual 4th of July parade and picnic in Arthur Manor. This annual neighborhood association celebration first started in 1928!
Parade participants and marchers gathered at the corner of Bell and Sprague Roads at 9:15 am on morning of July 4th to compete in the various categories of parade and float participants. The judges ranked the individual and group marchers in categories such as tricycles, strollers, most patriotic pets, and of course the floats.
At 9:45 am sharp, Scarsdale Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (founded on Sprague Road in 1893) led the march towards Davis Park together with all of the July 4th marchers, including Scarsdale Mayor Justin Arest, Deputy Village Mayor Dara Gruenberg and Trustees Jeremy Wise and Ken Mazer, marching from Bell and Sprague Roads, down Sprague Road to Lyons Road, turning onto Grand Boulevard and then marching into Davis Park. Volunteer Fireman Micheal Keating also drove his antique fire truck in this year’s parade and also in attendance was Arthur Manor’s own Uncle Sam (played magnificently by Arthur Manor resident Teegan Lee).
After the marchers and parade watchers assembled in Davis Park, the traditional July 4th ceremony was conducted in front of the flag pole in the park.
Scarsdale Volunteer Fire Company No. 1’s color guard began the ceremony by raising and then saluting the American flag. The crowd then observed a moment of silence to remember the men and women, past and present, serving in the U.S. military who sacrificed so much for preserving liberty and democracy in the United States and abroad. Local Arthur Manor resident Christina Semple then beautifully sang the U.S. National Anthem which was immediately followed by the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Scarsdale Mayor Justin Arest addressed the crowd in Davis Park on the significance of the July 4th holiday to the Scarsdale community.
Mayor Arest concluded his remarks to the crowd in Davis Park, former Arthur Manor President Al Stuart began giving out the awards to the marchers and parade participants in the different categories such as patriotic costumes, floats, bicycles, tricycles, and most patriotically dressed pets. A separate list of the winners follows below.
The Arthur Manor Neighborhood Association’s July 4th parade and picnic was sponsored by its own members and the awards for the 2025 parade and field events were provided by local merchants such as Amore Pizza, Big Top Toys and the Scarsdale Pastry Center on Weaver Street, Boun Amici on Scarsdale Avenue, Gianonni’s Deli and Scarsdale Bagels on Garth Road, Happy Days Pizza, Cob’s Bread, Serafina and Mona Lisa Salumeria on Post Road, Bronx River Books, La Renaissance French Pastry, Popojito’s, Learning Express, Starbucks, The Press sandwich shop and Martine’s in the Village Center, and Pizzarelli’s on Depot Place in the Village. All of these local merchants collectively donated over 37 prizes to the Arthur Manor Association for their 97th Annual July 4th event in the Village. The Arthur Manor association encourages its residents to buy local whenever possible.
At the conclusion of the 4th of July ceremony, the crowd walked to the other end of Davis Park for the annual field events including the parent-child relay race, three-legged race, potato sack and wheel-barrow races, and Arthur Manor’s all-time favorite, the annual “egg toss” - first appearing at Arthur Manor’s July 4th picnic in 1944. (A list of the winning field event participants also follows below).
This year’s egg-toss was won by Kiely and Chris Piekarski! Second place winners were Gianni Porco and Sean Cover, and third place winners Patrick Hagerty and Johan Schuerlein. Congratulations to all those who participated in the 2025 egg toss event!
All of the parade and picnic participants enjoyed the day’s activities and many good memories were made by those visiting Davis Park this July 4th. The annual July 4th event also allowed neighbors to reconnect with each other and for new residents in Arthur Manor to make new friends.
The Arthur Manor July 4th parade and celebration is made possible only through the collective efforts of the many Arthur Manor volunteer residents including especially the Marcus, Mancini, Roche, Porco, Piekarski, Bonanno, Bongiorno, Cover, Zhang, and Stuart families, and all of the other Arthur Manor volunteers too numerous to list here. A tremendous THANK YOU to all those residents who helped make the special day happen!
The Arthur Manor Association also wishes to expressly thank the Scarsdale Village Mayor and Trustees, the Village Hall staff, including the Manager and Assistant Manager, Public Works, Highway, Fire and Police departments for enabling this long-standing tradition to continue in Arthur Manor.
The Arthur Manor association encourages all of its residents to start practicing now for the July 4th, 2026 egg toss!
