Annual Fire Fair
The Scarsdale Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association, the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for more than 100 years, to host its annual Fire Fair. The event will be held at Fire Station 3, 56 Crossway, on Saturday, October 17, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, rain or shine!
The event features live fire demonstrations showing the dangers of unattended cooking, hands-on fire extinguisher training, interactive lessons in the fire safety trailer, and car and booster seat checks by certified technicians. Families can enjoy refreshments, explore antique and modern fire trucks, jump in bounce houses, and listen to a firefighter read-aloud. Additionally, the American Red Cross will be on hand to teach hands-only CPR, share emergency preparedness tips, and sign residents up for free smoke alarm installations.
The Fire Fair is a great opportunity to meet our career and volunteer firefighters, who are eager to share key messages from this year’s campaign, Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.
Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.
Stop using your device if it feels very hot, starts to swell, is smoking, or has a strange smell. These are warning signs that the battery may be damaged or failing.
Charge larger items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside and away from exits. These batteries are larger and store more energy. If they fail, fires can grow quickly and spread.
