Here’s a nice way to tap into a Scarsdale community resource to teach your children about nature, animals, plants and more. Consider these two programs offered at the Weinberg Nature Center.
After regular camp ends, the Weinberg Nature Center is running a program called August Animal Visions, for kids ages 4 ½ to 10, running from August 10-14, 2026.
Here’s a description of the program:
In small groups, learn all about animals and nature each day! Explore wildlife, go hiking, interact with resident Weinberg animals and guest petting zoos, plant a native flower garden, stream/pond ecology, jewelry-making, obstacle courses, storytelling, animal yoga, shelter building, conservation, nature arts and crafts and much more!
WHO: 4.5 – 10-year-olds
WHEN: 10am-2pm, August 10 – 14, 2026
WHERE: Weinberg Nature Center
MAX: 30 per week
Register by calling 914-722-1160 or www.scarsdale.gov/catalog
And in the fall, there is a weekday morning program for children ages 2 ½ to 5, from September 14 to December 11, 2026, called Little
Ferns Nature Program, held mostly outdoors.
The Little Ferns Nature Program integrates nature, life skills, and applied literacy education, utilizing multiple learning sites at the Nature Center: 6 outdoor educational classroom sites, open green, greenhouse, outside garden, compost station, hiking trails and 2 indoor classrooms. STEAM programs are 85% outdoors during warm months and about 40-60% outdoors during cold months. Students connect with local flora and fauna as well as the 28 resident animal species, daily. This is a fun program which emphasizes self-discovery and group-bonding activities. While Little Ferns supports effective child bridging and drop-off, parents/nannies are welcome to stay on, help and enjoy the fun!
