Basketball News: AAU Basketball Tryouts and Backyard Sports Three-on-Three Tournament

basketballtryoutChelsea Piers Connecticut is excited to announce tryout dates for boys in grades 5 – 7 interested in joining the Chelsea Piers AAU Basketball League.

The Chelsea Piers AAU Basketball League is designed specifically to help grow and develop all-around basketball players by focusing on individual offensive and defensive skill development. The curriculum also includes the teaching and developing of team concepts and overall basketball skill knowledge from multiple members of Chelsea Piers Connecticut's experienced coaching staff during twice-weekly practices. Chelsea Piers AAU coaches Brian Bertucci, Chris Seter and Kyle Marian work one-on-one with players in order to develop player's individual skills and ensure a positive experience for all.

Throughout the season, which runs from March to June, players will also compete in 3 to 4 regional tournaments in order to apply their practice in a more competitive environment and provide additional training and teamwork experience.

Tryout dates are as follows:

  • Thursday, January 30: 6:30pm – 7:30pm
  • Saturday, February 1: 2:00pm – 3:30pm
  • Sunday, February 2: 11:00am – 12:30pm
  • Sunday, February 9: 11:00am – 12:30pm

To be eligible for the league, all players must attend at least one tryout and pay a $50 per player tryout fee. To register for tryouts, please click here

Backyard Sports Cares  a Westchester-based non-profit that provides quality team oriented sports programs for both underserved and special needs children will host its second annual Adult Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament. The tournament will be held at the MSG Training Center in Tarrytown NY on March 29, 2014 from 9am – 3pm. Teams will be divided into three divisions: Open (most competitive), 35 years and older, and Recreation (all ages). NBA alumni players, on-air talent and the Knicks City Dancers will be on hand to cheer on the participants.

"We are excited to host this event again. This is a unique opportunity for basketball enthusiasts to experience playing at the state of the art MSG facility, while helping raise funds for children in our area who do not have traditional access to sports programming," said Danny Bernstein, "head coach" and founder of Backyard Sports Cares (BYSC). "Sports such as basketball, soccer, baseball and tennis are a great tool to teach all children life lessons that will help them lead better lives in our community."
