Police Report: Whig and Cooper Road Houses Burglarized, Feuding Neighbors and Dogs Hit By Cars

fallcolorsArrested: On Oct. 16, while conducting patrol in the vicinity of Popham Rd. and Scarsdale Ave., the driver of a black Lexus four-door sedan, who was described as a 52-year-old black man from the Bronx, was observed utilizing his mobile phone while driving. Patrol initiated a car stop and subsequently took the driver into custody due to additional findings. The driver was charged with operation of a motor vehicle while using a portable electronic device, operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver, and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was released on his own recognizance and issued a future date.

Burglary
A burglar alarm sounded at a Whig Rd. house Oct. 18. The homeowner was away and called police. Policed found a broken basement window at the scene.

Multiple tools and equipment were stolen from a Cooper Rd. construction site Oct. 19. The door was found ajar.

Stolen rental car
On Oct. 15, Scarsdale Ave. rental car agency manager reported that one of his cars has not been returned since June 2024. It had been rented by a 39-year-old Nelson Rd. man.

Mailbox
A sticky substance, commonly used in “mailbox fishing” scams and check washing, was found on the mail slot of the mailbox at Brewster Rd. and Huntington Ave Oct. 15. Policed notified the postal inspector.

Help
Police advised a Carthage Rd. resident to call a plumber regarding water backing up in the resident’s house through the shower and toilet Oct. 14.

Girls waiting for parents to pick them up on Wilmot Rd. flagged down police and asked for help because their cellphones were dead Oct. 17. Police called their parents and stood by until the girls were safely picked up.

Trespassing
Policed advised a disruptive person that he was not welcome at the library because he was disrupting other patrons Oct. 16.

A man loitering by tennis courts and a parking lot on Post Rd. was asked to leave Oct. 17.

A man acting “abnormal” was reported on Chase Rd. Oct. 17. He was gone when police arrived.

Civil matter
A Brewster Rd. woman reported a dispute with her neighbor over a shared driveway Oct. 17. She stated when they were having the dispute, she was standing in the driveway. She said that her neighbor tried to back out of the driveway when she was still standing there and alleged he tried to harm her. Patrol was shown a video of the incident that showed the neighbor attempting to back out of the driveway and honking the horn to alert the woman that he was backing out. The neighbor stopped his car and waited for the woman to move. The disagreement over the driveway is currently under litigation.

Pedestrian Hit
A 40-year-old female pedestrian was hit by a turning car at Post and Mamaroneck roads Oct. 18. She was not in the marked crosswalk. She complained of left hip and arm pain. She was taken to the hospital. The driver said she was affected by sun glare.

Cars and roadways
On Oct. 14, a tree fell on a Rectory Lane car.
On Oct. 15, a Roosevelt Place resident complained that a teacher’s car was blocking his driveway. School administration said they would ask the teacher to move the car.
Police contacted a tow for driver whose car broke down on Post Rd. Oct. 15.
A black Chevy Tahoe pulled into a Griffen Ave. driveway and people inside the car took several flash photos of the house before leaving Oct. 16.
A disabled car was towed from Post Rd. Oct. 17.
A 2010 Mercedes-Benz with heavy front-end damage was found abandoned at Broadmoor Rd. and Griffen Ave. Oct. 18.
Patrol cleaned up plant debris in the roadway on Kingston Rd. Oct. 18. The homeowner, who was responsible, was issued a summons.
A car was parked and accidentally left running on Palmer Ave. Oct. 19. Police contacted the owner, and it was turned off.
Five car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.

Lost and found
On Oct. 14, a Christie Place resident reported losing his wallet in the Village.

Animals
On Oct. 14, a neighbor complained about a barking dog on Coralyn Rd. Police spoke with the owner who said the dog let itself out through the dog door. The owner apologized.

A caller reported a car struck two dogs on Crane Rd. Oct. 16.

Another car struck one dog on Brewster Rd. Oct. 16.

Village code
A Woodland Place resident was doing demolition work in violation of Village code Oct. 15. He had a permit but needed to get one that covered the kind of work in question.
On Oct. 15, an illegally posted sign was removed from Lee Rd.
Landscapers were advised of allowable hours for noisy work on Donellan Rd. Oct. 16.
A neighbor complained about loud kids playing outside on Stonehouse Rd. Oct. 19. Police went to the house, and the kids went inside.
Police helped a Sage Terrace resident move a sign to comply with Village code Oct. 20.

Firefighters
Firefighters advised the water department about a reported water leak on Ridgedale Rd. Oct. 14.
Firefighters shut gas to a Black Birch Lane stove with a gas leak Oct. 14. They advised to call a plumber.
On Oct. 14, a Drake Rd. resident reported a burning odor from an outlet. Firefighters found an outlet in the living room near the front door was melted due to an electric heater being operated. Firefighters shut power at the breaker and locked out the breaker. Firefighters opened up the outlet to inspect for extension,
On Oct. 15, firefighters helped a locked-out Herkimer Rd. resident get back in their house.
Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a gas leak on Rock Creek Lane Nov. 15.
Firefighters assisted at a car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway Oct. 15.
An odor in a Brayton Rd. house was determined to be from a dead mouse Oct. 15.
Firefighters assisted on Edison check for a gas leak inside a Leatherstocking Lane house Oct. 17.
A Heathcote Rd. resident was advised to contact a sprinkler company for a leak Oct. 18.
Firefighters helped a Penn Blvd. resident change smoke detector batteries Oct. 18.
Firefighters assisted at car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway Oct. 18 and 19.
