Hartsdale Woman and Bronx Man Arrested for DWI in Unrelated Traffic Stops

Hydrangeas FallPhoto Credit: Shelley GrafsteinDWI arrest: On Sept. 20, police arrested Jordana Testa, 25, of Hartsdale, on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), third-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and operation of a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level greater than .08 of one percent. Police stopped Testa’s car on Post Rd. because the speed was measured at 55 mph in a 35-mph zone. She was then observed to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Field sobriety tests were conducted. Summonses were issued, and Testa was released on her own recognizance with a future court date of Oct. 8.

On Sept. 21, police conducted a Heathcote Rd. traffic stop and arrested Mario Jiminez-Moriega, 49, of the Bronx, on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), third-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver, operation of a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level greater than .08 of one percent, and failure to use a designated lane. He was released on his own recognizance with a future court date of Oct. 1.

Stolen
On Sept. 17, a Port Chester landscaper reported his electric leaf blower was stolen from the front yard of a Reynal Close house.

Identity theft and scams
On Sept. 15, a Kensington Rd. resident reported his EZ Pass had been stolen, and he was receiving fraudulent charges on it.

On Sept. 15, a Hampton Rd. resident accidentally gave remote access to computer to a scammer. The resident reported “fraudulent activity” to police. Although the scammer alleged that money was fraudulently taken, accounts were flagged, and no financial loss was actually reported.

On Sept. 21, a Barry Rd. resident reported that their address had been used for a fraudulent car insurance policy.

Death
A 74-year-old woman was pronounced dead on Tunstall Rd. Sept. 22. She died at her Tunstall Rd. home.

Dispute
On Sept. 15, police mediated a dispute between an Edgewood couple involving locks that were supposed to be installed by a locksmith on the couple’s respective doors by a locksmith. The locks had been arranged by their divorce lawyers; however, the locksmith said he was unable to install the locks at that time, due to the age of the existing door hardware, The locksmith said he would have to return at a later date to complete the job, and he would bring new keys for the locks.

A Brookby Rd. homeowner reported a dispute over property issues with a former nanny Sept. 16. The nanny was allegedly fired on Sept. 1, due to performance issues. Police advised the homeowner to cease contact with the nanny and to resolve the matter through the civil legal system.

Membership
A Valley Rd. resident reported that a man’s membership with a religious organization was terminated by choice after he was told that his membership would be rescinded if the man made contact with the resident, who was also a member of the same organization Sept. 17. The resident asked police to make a report for documentation purposes.

Broken window
An Ardmore Rd. resident reported the driver’s side window of his car was broken between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Sept. 16. It might have been caused by a neighbor’s landscaper by mistake.

Safety
On Sept. 19, a woman on Olmsted Rd. called police and stated she feared for her safety and would like to speak with and officer. Upon arrival, police spoke with the woman, who would not identify herself. She stated that she felt as though she needed to call the police. She did not provide any specific reason as to why she felt the need to contact the police. She then asked patrol to follow her in her vehicle to the border with Eastchester.

On Sept. 21, a Dell Rd. resident reported concern regarding an active elder abuse case that was being investigated in Florida and involved a person with partial residence in Scarsdale and Florida. The resident feared retaliation by the caregiver of the person who was allegedly being abused. Police advised the resident to cease contact with the caregiver and to report any suspected abuse occurring in New York State.

Cars and roadways
On Sept. 16, police notified Verizon about a fallen wire on Walworth Ave.

On Sept. 16, police asked the driver of a parked car to move it from Boulevard in order to comply with parking restrictions.

A man sleeping in his car on Kelwynne Rd. said he pulled over to rest Sept. 19.

A car with a flat tire was parked on Meadow Rd. On Sept. 20, police tried to call the owner, who had left a note on the windshield. No one answered. Police issued a summons for a parking violation. The owner called back and said they would pick up the car the next day.

Police removed a box from Heathcote Rd. Sept. 21.

Four car accidents were reported in the Village this week. Police issued two drivers summonses for registration violations.

Animals
A fox was reported on Heathcote Rd. Sept. 21.

Village code
Police removed illegally posted signs and discarded them from Depot Place and Popham Rd. Sept. 16,

Workers on Lincoln Rd. turned off their equipment and waited to start work until after 8 a.m., after police explained working hours as per Village code Sept. 17.

On Sept. 19, at 3:12 a.m., a caller reported being awakened by loud noises at Nelson and Drake roads. Investigation found a man inside his parked car causing noise and having an open container of alcohol in plain sight. He was issued a summons.

Lost and found
Police found a handicapped placard and returned it to its owner Sept. 16.

Firefighters
On Sept. 17, firefighters advised a Lockwood Rd. resident of the dangers of having an unsecured sewer trap in the house. The resident was advised to contact a plumber.

On Sept. 17, a grill caught fire on Ridgedale Rd. It self-extinguished, and firefighters shut the gas supply to the grill.

On Sept. 18, firefighters assisted at car accidents on Mamaroneck Rd. and the Bronx River Parkway.

On Sept. 18, smoke from sewer testing entered a Murray Hill Rd. basement. Firefighters ventilated the space and advised the resident to replace sewer caps.

An outlet was smoking in a commercial business on Wilmot Rd. Sept. 18. Further investigation proved that an electrical device was overheated and making a high-pitched noise. Firefighters removed the device, and the problem was resolved.

On Sept. 19, contractors using gas-powered equipment to finish a concrete floor in a Hamilton Rd. house caused carbon monoxide to accumulate in the house. Firefighters ventilated the space and advised contractors on proper equipment usage.

On Sept. 20, firefighters broke open a bathroom door in a Brite Ave. house to release a child who accidentally got locked inside an interior bathroom. The child was reunited with her family unharmed.

On Sept. 20, a fire hydrant on Corell Rd. was found to have been knocked over, apparently because of a car accident hit-and-run.

On Sept. 21, firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a transformer explosion and arcing wires on Bradford Rd.
