A very early winter storm hit Scarsdale hard on Saturday making it feel more like December than October. Heavy snow and ice weighed down branches, splitting trees and bringing down power lines. Live power lines littered the streets as darkness fell, resulting in extremely precarious conditions. As of Sunday morning, Con Edison reports that about 1200 customers in Scarsdale are without power.
In an email from Mayor Miriam Flisser on Saturday evening she reported that "Scarsdale is experiencing severely hazardous road conditions due to road surfaces and low lying and fallen limbs. There are approximately 70 locations with fallen limbs blocking streets; and electrical wires are involved in about half of those." Police, firefighters and ambulance crews have been working to clear the roads and clear up hazardous areas. According to the Mayor, at that time, about 40 homes in Scarsdale were without power, but the Con Edison outage map seemed to show far more homes in the dark. The Mayor did not expect that Con Edison crews would come to town anytime soon and said that Con Edison has called in crews from out of state to help.
The Mayor asked residents to avoid driving unless absolutely necessary and to drive with headlights on to avoid branches and power lines.
If your power is out, report it to Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED. To track outages, check the Con Edison outage map that is updated every fifteen minutes. On this map you can see where there are outages and also find out when Con Edison expects to restore power to the area. Here is the link:
