A Busy Week for the Scarsdale Police:

Police came upon an SUV stopped on Mamaroneck Road at 10:35 pm on July 17 and approached the driver. The driver was reluctant to roll down the window and said that he pulled over to call a friend. He said he did not have his license, claiming it was his father's car. At the same time, the Scarsdale police officer received a hotline message from White Plains Police about the search for a white SUV with North Carolina plates in connection with a burglary on Walworth Avenue. The officer told the driver to keep his hands on the wheel while he sent out a dispatch to alert police that he had stopped the suspect. The officer drew his gun and pointed it at the suspect, until back-up arrived. When additional police arrived, the suspect was told to get out of the car. Police found a pellet gun in the drivers side door. The suspect smelled of alcohol but police could not administer sobriety tests at the location. Police noticed that the passenger door was ajar and surmised that someone may have jumped out. They found a cell phone on the passenger seat and two six pack of Smirnoff' Ice and Mike's Hard Limeade.

The suspect identified himself as Erick Osbertos Barrios. He said he was coming from Yonkers to go to Crystal Nightclub but could not tell police why he was in Scarsdale. The car belonged to Barrios father who lives in North Carolina but was currently in Guatemala. The car was impounded and searched and police found a set of handcuffs, a leather belt case, a charged and full operational stun gun, a City of Rye PBA surgeon shield, and Eastchester EMS Medical Director shield and other police paraphernalia. The car also had a vanity license plate that said New York Police.

Police conducted sobriety tests and Barrios was found to have a BAC of .10%. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon (the stun gun), driving while intoxicated, and driving without a license. Bail was set at $200 and paid by his girlfriend. He was turned over to White Plains police for questioning about the robbery. Due to all the law enforcement items that he possessed, police believe that Barrios poses a safety issue to police.

Amiljer Maldonado-Lopez, age 27 of New Rochelle was stopped on the Post Road by police around 10 pm on July 20 and found to be intoxicated. He was charged with DWI, driver's license violations and driving to the left of the pavement markings. He was released on $250 cash bail and ordered to return to court on July 24.

Orders of Protection:

The girlfriend of a Scarsdale man complained that his ex-wife had violated an order of protection around 8 pm on July 16. Haewoen Bae of Edgewater, NJ went to the Scarsdale Train Station to pick up her boyfriend and was followed by the man's ex-wife in her car. The ex wife pulled up next to Bae's car and gave her a menacing stare, then pulled in front of Bae to prevent her from driving away -- in violation of an order to stay awa. Sylvia E. Lee, age 44 of Tuckahoe was charged with disobeying the mandate, which is a misdemeanor. She appeared in Village court, paid bail of $500 and agreed to return to court on August 7.

Fernando C. Rodriguez appeared before Judge Galloway at Scarsdale Village Court on July 17 when he was arrested for criminal contempt for violating an order of protection. The order advised him to stay away from his parents at their residence on Fox Meadow Road. Despite the order he went to their home on the morning of July 3. The judge set bail at $2,500 and remanded Rodriguez back to Westchester County Jail pending a July 31 court date.

Daniel Witoslawski also violated an order of protection by making three collect calls to the victim from the Westchester County Correctional facility where he is now being held. He appeared in Scarsdale Village Court on July 16 and bail was reduced to $3,500. He is due back in court on July 24.

A 58 year-old woman from Evon Court reported the receipt of harassing text messages from a man she was formerly dating. She showed police the messages on her phone which dated from May 29 to June 26. Police attempted to reach the man to tell him to cease all communications but they were not able to contact him.

Identity Thefts:

A Gatehouse Road woman got a big surprise when her husband received a call from a car dealership in Georgia saying that someone had used her identity to purchase a $40,000 car and attempted to buy a second one the following day. The dealer asked the man if his wife was "a heavy set African American woman," and he replied no. The Scarsdale woman also got a letter from T-Mobile advising her that someone had opened a new account in her name there. Accounts in her name had also been opened at the Bank of America.

An Oak Way man came to police on July 16 to report fraudulent activity on six of his credit cards from July 6 through July 15. He was previously the victim of identity theft on his tax return.

On 7/20 a Carthage Road woman reported that two checks, together valued at almost $9,000, had been written against her account. The checks look different from her real checks, had a different signature, were out of sequence and were made out to someone she does not know. The bank offered to credit her for one check but offered no credit for another.

Also on July 20, a Yonkers woman reported that her debit card had been stolen and fraudulently used. Cash withdrawals were made in Mt. Vernon at ATM machines, and transactions were made at CVS and Walgreens. Total losses amounted to $809.28.

A Wayside Lane man reported that almost $6,000 had been fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account sometime between June 28 and July 16.

Accidents:

Cyclist Hit: A Jefferson Road man, riding his bike on Drake Road, was hit by a car turning off Drake onto Hamilton Road at 7 pm on Friday June 19. The driver of the car said he was blinded by the sun and did not see the cyclist. The car hit the biker who ended up on the hood and windshield of the car. Two witnesses saw the accident. The cyclist complained of back pain and was taken to Westchester Medical Center.

Driving While Texting: A 17 year-old Scarsdale girl was driving north on the Post Road at 1:18 am on July 19 when she lost control of the car and ran into a telephone pole. She was not injured. She admitted that she had looked down at her cell phone to read a text just before she hit the pole. There was fluid seepage from the car and the air bag deployed. The car was towed and Con Edison was notified to fix the damaged pole. Here father and the Fire Department responded.

On Rugby Lane a truck knocked down wires and a box from a utility pole on the morning of July 18. The wires were moved to the curb and police contacted Verizon to come out and make repairs. A Rugby Road resident also called to say that her car had been damaged by the wires when they fell.

Suds: A Greendale Road man called police to complain that a mobile pet groomer was spilling soapy water on the road in front of his home around noon on July 15. Police spoke to Jessica Fernandez of Pupparazzi who explained that she was parked in the shade due to the heat. Police told the man who complained that the groomer was not violating any Village laws.

Fire: A transformer exploded on the Post Road at Huntington Avenue at 6:22 pm on July 15. The primary power line feeder was on fire and knocked out power to much of Greenacres for the night. At 5:15 pm on July 18 there was another transformer explosion at the same location.

Harassed: On June 17 a Brewster Road woman reported that someone claiming to be from the DA or DEA's office called her and said that he had evidence that she was purchasing illegal drugs online and that he would be coming to her house to arrest her. At no point did the caller say that he had her address or personal information. Police offered to do extra ride bys of her home.

Recovered Goods: On July 18, Harrison Police did a search in the Bronx and recovered stolen property taken from Scarsdale cars. They returned a GPS device taken from Sage Terrace residents on April 16 and another GPS device that belonged to a White Road woman.

Animals: A large black and white dog was reported loose on Saxon Woods Road at 7:30 am on July 16. Police found the dog with a motorist who had stopped to catch him. Police took the dog to headquarters and contacted the New Rochelle Humane Society to pick it up.

A small dog was found in Aspen Park at 10:30 pm on July 16. Police picked up the dog and contacted the owner whose name appeared on the dog's tags.

A black and white cat was found on Bell Road at 1 pm on July 21. The woman who found the cat checked with neighbors to see if the cat belonged to anyone but was unable to find the owner. Police contacted the humane society who said they had no room for the cat so the woman who found it said she would keep it for a few more days.

Suspicious Withdrawals: At 5:44 pm on July 18 police responded to Chase Bank on Palmer Avenue where an investigator was reporting suspicious activity. The complaint involved several large withdrawals from a bank account by an older man accompanied by a younger man who snatched the money out of the older man's hands when he exited the branch. The older man told the teller that if he did not take the money out he would be injured. Police spoke to the man the next morning and he said that he was not in distress and required no assistance. However, on the afternoon of July 19 Chase Bank again called police who reported that the man had made four large withdrawals for $14,000 on July 3, $11,000 on July 5, $30,000 on July 11 and $15,500 on July 18. On July 11 she saw the man turn over the funds to a 5'9' thin, bald man. Police asked the older man why he was withdrawing the funds and he said that he uses the money to help various people in need and he was not making the withdrawals under duress and does not fear for his safety.

Just after midnight on July 22, a counselor at Search for Change called police when one of the residents was yelling, shouting profanities, waking the others and refusing to follow the rules. Police spoke with the woman and told her that she needed to abide by the curfew. She returned to her room.

Moving Man Without a License: After he drove a moving truck into a fire hydrant on Paddington Road on July 19, police asked driver Mitchell Goodwin for his license. He handed police a forged license without a security hologram in the name of Mitchell Deloatch. Police checked the DMV and found that the man had no license, and lost the privilege to drive for possession and/or sale of drugs in February 2012. He was handcuffed, taken to police headquarters and released on $500 bail.

Police scanners nabbed a 57 year-old Tewkesbury Road woman who was driving with a suspended registration due to a lapse in insurance at 6 pm on July 19. They also caught Christopher C Brown, age 41 of the Bronx on the afternoon of July 21 when he was driving on the Post Road with a suspended registration due to an insurance lapse. The car was towed to the man's home and Brown was given a summons. Jennifer Navarro, age 24 of the Bronx was also caught by the scanner for driving with a suspended registration due to lapsed insurance at 5:30 pm on July 21. Her plates were removed, her car was towed and she was issued a summons.

Guns: A Madison Road man turned over two weapons that he found while cleaning out his deceased father-in-laws home. He gave police a 22 caliber Derringer and a Roth RG3 starter pistol on July 19.

Disputes: A disgruntled caregiver complained to police that she had been kicked out of a home on Wayside Lane without being given the chance to gather her things at 10 pm on July 19. Police went to the house and spoke to the man who she was caring for. He said that she asked him for an additional $500 over her payment and he told her to get out of the house. The man's son said he would stay with his father and that the caregiver was no longer welcome in the house. Police stood by while the woman gathered her belonging and called a cab to take her home to Yonkers.

A tenant who lives on Hamilton Road complained that the landlord was showing the property without his permission at 3 pm on July 20. Realtors had shown the house twice on June 29. Police examined the man's lease which did allow for brokers to show the property during reasonable hours without notifying the tenant.

Missing Jewels: A Brambach Road woman reported that three items of jewelry were missing from her home. She last saw them in April. Among the missing items are a gold and sapphire pin valued at $3,000, a pair of diamond stud earrings, valued at $700 and pair of ruby and emerald earrings valued at $1,000.

Attempted Break-in: A woman from Potter Road called police on the morning of 7/18 when she saw three men try to gain entry to a neighbor's house. She was looking out her rear window on Lee Road when she saw three men walk down the driveway of a neighbor's home. One put his shirt on a doorknob and attempted to open the door while another stood closer to the street as a lookout. Police advised the homeowner who said she was home at the time and that no one got in or damaged her property.

A White Road man reported that his Honda CRV was entered overnight on 7/19 and 7/20 when it was parked in his driveway. The car was in disarray and a Swiss army knife and a small flashlight were missing.

Mischief: Police received a report on the evening of July 21 from a witness who saw three individuals damaging the pump house at Crane Berkley.
