DWI Arrest on Post Road: Driver Asleep with Engine Running, Burglary on Dolma Road

DWI: On Dec. 9, at 5:24 a.m., Daniel Santiago Perez, 31, of Medford, NY was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), operation of a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .08 of one percent, and a stopping/standing/parking violation on a highway. Perez’s 2019 Honda was observed parked in a lane of Post Road with the engine running and Perez sleeping inside. Perez was covered in what appeared to be vomit. Police attempted to wake Perez by knocking on the window. That was unsuccessful, so police opened the passenger side door and turned off the ignition. After several more attempts, police succeeded in waking up Perez. He told police he had consumed two beers at a place where he works as security. He claimed he left his place of employment at 3 a.m. Police noticed an odor of alcohol on Perez’s breath, slurred speech and glassy eyes. He was asked to perform field sobriety tests, and he was subsequently arrested and charged with DWI. Perez was booked, processed and released on his own recognizance with an appearance ticket for Scarsdale Village Justice Court.

Burglary
On Dec. 14, an automatic burglar alarm alerted police to a burglary in a Dolma Road house at 5:38 p.m., Dec. 14. A rear glass door was found to be broken, and a master bedroom closet was ransacked. The homeowner returned and confirmed several watches had been stolen. Detectives are following up.

Stolen package
On Dec. 10, a delivered package was stolen from a Carthage Road house. It contained a $487.67 subwoofer and stand.

Stolen
On Dec. 13, a Paddington Road woman reported the theft of three sets of sterling silver flatware from her house. The sets were valued at $24,000 combined.

A Hazelton Place man reported a $12,000 Rolex watch and a $300 Prada makeup bag were stolen from his house in the past.

ID theft
On Dec. 13, a Secor Road resident reported someone used his personal information to fraudulently attempt to obtain a credit card.

On Dec. 13, a Fairview Road woman reported her personal information was used to fraudulently withdraw $12,844.73 in funds from her bank account.

D.O.A.
A 97-year-old Harvest Drive woman passed away at home Dec. 15.

Harassment
A Richbell Close employer reported an ex-employee has contacted him numerous times threatening to file a lawsuit or criminal charges unless additional unemployment payments are made. The ex-employee accused the Richbell Close employer of “stealing” his unemployment benefits. Police attempted to contact the ex-employee but were unable to reach him.

Attempted fraud
On Dec. 10, a Bradford Road resident reported an unknown individual attempted to scam the resident into revealing personal information and sending a large sum of money via a wire transfer. The resident did not fall for the scam and reported the matter to police.

Assistance
Police accompanied an individual to assist him retrieve belongings from a Sheldrake Road house Dec. 9.

On Dec. 10, police contacted a women’s shelter for a homeless woman who was found inside Christie Place garage. Police provided her with courtesy transportation.

On Dec. 13, police de-escalated a road rage incident involving two drivers who allegedly “almost collided” on Mamaroneck Road.

Police notified MTA police about a report of a bag left near a newspaper box on the MTA train station platform at the Scarsdale station Dec. 15.

Gun
A person brought a WW2-era Japanese pistol and approximately 100 rounds of ammunition to headquarters to give to police for destruction Dec. 15. The man found the gun and ammunition in his father-in-law’s former house during a clean out.

Credit card
A customer left a credit card in a Scarsdale Avenue store Dec. 15. Police contacted the owner who picked up his card.

Scofflaw
On Dec. 11, police detected a car with scofflaw status parked on Garth Road. The driver – a 48-year-old Bronx woman – owed the Village $775 in unpaid parking tickets. The driver was advised of the matter and was also advised that her registration had been suspended due to an insurance lapse. The driver was advised she could not drive the car due to the suspended registration, but she proceeded to drive the car on Garth Road nevertheless. Police managed to stop her on Garth Road near Freightway. She was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration. The car’s plates were removed, and the car was towed to the driver’s house in the Bronx. She was told to take care of the suspensions at the DMV and to pay outstanding fines at Village Hall.

Pedestrians hit
A driver reported hitting a woman with his car at the corner of Garth and Freightway roads Dec. 13.

At 10 p.m., a Toyota grazed a man on Garth Road. He told police he was not injured and refused medical attention. The man has just crossed the street and was about to open his car door, when the Toyota’s mirror struck the man’s back as the Toyota drove by. The driver stopped, and a call was placed to police. Police went over all option with both parties, and they decided they did not want to file an accident report.

Cars and roadways
On Dec. 10, police called a tow truck for a driver who locked herself out of her car.

A car was idling on Herkimer Road, with the driver sleeping inside at 11:30 p.m. The driver said he was on his way to Boston and had pulled over to rest.

Highway workers were called to address snow-laden bamboo trees that had bent into the road Dec. 11.

Police notified Verizon about low-hanging wires on Mamaroneck Road Dec. 11.

Highway workers were notified about an uneven sidewalk on Normandy Lane Dec. 12.

Police placed a temporary stop sign at the exit ramp of the Hutchinson River Parkway at Weaver Street and Hutchinson Avenue due to the streetlight being out due to a power failure Dec. 13.

Police helped a pedestrian cross Weaver Street and Heathcote Road Dec. 14.

Police called a tow for a disabled car on Weaver Street Dec. 14.

Six car accidents were reported in the village this week.

Civil matter
On Dec. 12, a former Fox Meadow Road resident reported several items from his former house are unaccounted for. On Dec. 12, the same former Fox Meadow Road man reported unfamiliar activity on his credit card. The charges were possibly made by a family member.

Dogs
A concerned caller reported that a small dog was left out in the rain without adequate shelter on steps of a Sprague Road house Dec. 10. Police spoke to the owner who brought the dog inside the house.
A Carman Road woman was concerned about a loose dog sitting in the rain on her driveway Dec. 13. Police picked up the dog and returned it to its owner’s house down the street. Police let the dog into the house, secured the door and left a note for the owner.

Village code
Police issued a summons to a MacDonald Place landscaper using a gas-powered leaf blower in violation of village code Dec. 14.

Following a noise complaint, police advised a party host at the Fox Meadow Tennis Club that he needed to lower the noise level Dec. 14. The host said he would comply.

Firefighters
According to Fire Captain James Seymour, firefighters responded to 27 incidents this week. Seymour shared details of the following incidents.

On Dec. 9, an outdoor electrical fixture was found to be smoking in the rain on Mamaroneck Road. Firefighters shut the circuit at the breaker panel and advised the homeowner to call an electrician.

On Dec. 10, firefighters shut down an oil burner in a Carman Road house following a puff back. They set up ventilation through fans into order to clear smoke and carbon monoxide from the air. They advised the resident to call for service.

On Dec. 11, a chemical burning odor was reported in a Sheldrake Road house. Firefighters traced the odor to a burnt out light bulb. They disconnected the bulb and the fixture.

Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of an outdoor gas leak at Carthage Road and Crossway Dec. 14. They assisted firefighters check area houses for gas infiltration.

Firefighters provided mutual aid to Hartsdale Fire Department for a reported structure fire on Central Avenue Dec. 15.
