Police Ask for Public’s Help in Alleged Public Lewdness Incident; Shoplifter Steals $1,000 in Merchandize from CVS Plus Snow Disputes

Public lewdness: The Scarsdale Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an alleged public lewdness incident that occurred on Berwick Road on Dec. 21, at approximately 10:40 am. According to police, the suspect was observed driving a Jeep onto Berwick Road and stopping his vehicle, at which time, he “appeared to be masturbating.” At no time did the suspect attempt to lure or make contact with anyone, police said in a press release. The suspect is described as a white male, in his early 20s, with brown hair. The suspect was last seen operating a dark-colored, 2-door Jeep Wrangler with an unknown white license plate. The suspect’s vehicle was last seen traveling north on Berwick Road. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Scarsdale Police Department at 914-722-1200.

Shoplifting
On Dec. 14, the manager of the Popham Road CVS reported a woman stole approximately $1,000 worth of cosmetics, hair dye and pain relief medication that day. The manger observed the woman place the items in her handbag and leave the store without paying for them. The manager described the woman as heavyset, tanned and wearing blue pants and a polka dot shirt, with a brown hooded jacket. He saw her get into a car and leave the area via the Bronx River Parkway. Police are investigating.

Stolen car
A 2019 Acura RDX was stolen from a Bradley Road driveway overnight and discovered missing on the morning of Dec. 19. Also stolen, inside the car, were Ray Ban sunglasses, a woman’s wallet with a driver’s license, a softball bat, various textbooks and a sled.

Car break-ins
At 4:58 a.m., Dec. 19, a Bradley Road man reported his doorbell security camera detected a person get out of a white SUV and check the door handles of the man’s car to see if they were open. The car was locked, and the person left the area in the white SUV. Police canvassed the area but did not see any suspicious persons or white SUVs.

On Dec. 19, two Ferncliff Road residents reported their cars had been rummaged through the previous night, but nothing was stolen.

On Dec. 19, a Nelson Road resident reported a Joni Mitchell CD had been stolen from his unlocked, driveway-parked car during the overnight period.

On Dec. 20, a River Road woman reported that on Dec. 13, someone entered her unlocked, parked car and stole her Apple laptop computer.

Stolen packages
A Carthage Road resident reported someone stole five packages from his front doorstep approximately 30 minutes before he called police Dec. 14. According to the resident, the packages had been placed there for UPS return pickup earlier that day. The suspect was described by the resident as a middle-aged white woman with short blonde hair, driving a Honda Civic.

Identity theft
On Dec. 14, a Huntington Avenue resident reported someone opened a line of credit in her name at Key Bank. She informed Key Bank personnel to close the account because it was fraudulent. No financial losses were incurred.

Criminal mischief
On Dec. 14, a Hampton Road caller reported a Mercedes-Benz drove onto the Fox Meadow School field, on Brewster Road, turned off its headlights and intentionally drove around the field several times, cutting deep cervices into the field’s surfaces and damaging the grass. Police contacted the on-call custodian, who said he would notify his supervisor for proper follow-up action.

Harassment
A Paddington Road resident reported receiving harassing calls at home Dec. 17. The resident said the calls have been occurring with frequency over the past few weeks, and the calls originate from an unknown person. The caller asks for people who do not live at the residence, and the resident and her husband have asked the caller to stop calling. Police also called him and reiterated the request.

Trespassing
A Boulevard resident reported that her neighbor informed her that he saw a man walk up to her house, look inside her kitchen window and leave the property on foot Dec. 20. The resident said she had been upstairs and could not provide a description of the man, other than he was a male, wearing dark clothing and possibly carrying a large tablet or an iPad. Police canvassed the area but did not find the person accused of trespassing.

Snow shoveling
A Brite Avenue woman reported a man was on her property, shoveling snow from her driveway without her permission and asking for money Dec. 17. The woman told police she hired another person to clean her driveway instead; so she refused to pay the man. There was an apparent language barrier. The slim, white man eventually left in a black car.

Snowballs
On Dec. 17, a Fairview Road woman called police to say that her sons had been playing in the snow on Fox Meadow School grounds that day when the mother of a younger boy got upset with some of the older boys at the park who had been throwing snowballs at each other. This mother called one of the older boy’s mothers and allegedly resolved the issue. Later, however, this mother came to the woman’s house to discuss the matter with her. The woman told police she did not feel comfortable with the other mother coming to her house to discuss a minor incident. She wanted to document the incident in case the other mother returns.

Ice
A caller reported seeing youths skating on the pond near the Scarsdale library on Olmstead Road and felt it was unsafe Dec. 19. Police went to the scene and did not see any youths on the ice. They did see, however, two youths sitting on a bench near the edge of the pond and cautioned them not to walk or skate on the frozen pond.

A caller reported people were ”ice fishing” on a frozen pond on Taunton Road Dec. 19. Police went to the scene and observed two individuals walking off the ice and entering a private house.

Fallen tree
While investigating a report of people possibly running outside a Lorraine Place house after midnight Dec. 19, police encountered no people but did note a tree fell on a nearby house. No one was injured, and the affected homeowner was aware of the fallen tree.

Asleep
A driver fell asleep at the wheel at the intersection of East Parkway and Christie Place at 5:15 a.m., Dec. 19. Police spoke with the driver who said he was on his way home but must have fallen asleep because he was so tired. He refused medical attention. At the suggestion of police, the driver agreed to park his car and take a taxi home. He said he would come back to pick up the car later.

Assistance
On Dec. 15, White Plains police notified Scarsdale police about a missing White Plains woman who was previously discovered in Scarsdale the last time she was reported missing. Scarsdale police canvassed the Village but were soon informed that the woman had been located at a store in White Plains.

Police checked a Sheldrake Road house at 1:30 a.m., after the homeowner’s son thought he heard someone on the deck of the house Dec. 16. Everything was found to be secure.

Cars and roadways
A car parked on Lincoln Road in violation of posted parking restrictions belonged to a resident who said she was “shuffling cars in her driveway and temporarily parked her car across the street” Dec. 14. She told police she would move the car immediately.

A Roosevelt Place caller reported a white Mercedes-Benz that had been parked in front of her house “slowly rolled down the hill without putting its lights on” Dec. 14. She thought this was suspicious and called police. Patrol checked the area for the car but did not find it.

Police performed traffic control while department of public works personnel picked up leaves on the street Dec. 15.

A 52-year-old female driver, from Scarsdale, rear-ended a police car at Fenimore Road and Oak Lane Dec. 15. No injuries were reported.

Police helped a pedestrian safely move onto the sidewalk while walking o Weaver Street Dec. 15.

New Rochelle police were addressing a car parked on Weaver Street Dec. 16. Scarsdale police assisted.

Police provided a courtesy transport for a pedestrian who was out on Post Road and Boulevard and needed to go to the Golden Horseshoe shopping center at 8:30 p.m., Dec. 16.

Police stood by for Con Edison at the site of a fallen tree resting on electrical wires on Carstensen Road Dec. 17. In the meantime, police closed the road with caution tape.

A caller reported a barricade on Spencer Place came loose and was causing a possible hazard Dec. 17. Police placed caution tape around the barricade until it could be addressed.

A man witnessed a black Toyota Land Cruiser strike a parked GMC on East Parkway and then drive away and park in a spot further away from where the accident occurred Dec. 18. Police came to the scene and saw the GMC and Toyota parked in the described locations. The driver of the Toyota said she thought she might have hit the GMC with her side mirror. However, police did not observe any damage on the mirror or any damage caused by a mirror strike to the GMC. The GMC driver returned to his car while police were on scene and took note of new damage to his bumper. This damage was consistent with two witnesses’ accounts of the accident involving the Toyota. Police informed both drivers and are following up.

A Wheelock Road resident saw a car slowing driving back and forth on the street and thought it was suspicious Dec. 19. Police investigated the matter and discovered the driver of the car was a food delivery person looking for an address.

Animals
A caller reported seeing a large white dog at the intersection of Cambridge and Oxford roads Dec. 14. The dog appeared to have a collar. Police drove to the area to look for the dog, but it was no longer there.

On Dec. 15, a caller reported hearing a dog barking and crying for approximately two hours in the vicinity of Webster Road. The caller said she was not bothered by the noise, but she was afraid the dog might be in distress and asked police to check the animal’s welfare. Police went to the area and did not hear any dogs barking or crying. When patrol rang the doorbell of the house where the suspected dog was located, no one answered, but police heard numerous dogs barking inside the house.

A caller reported a “loose and aggressive” Pit bull on Meadow Road Dec. 18. Police went to the scene and did not find any loose dogs. The caller said she was certain the dog had belonged to a neighbor. She asked police to give her phone number to the alleged owner of the dog.

Lost and found
A Boulevard woman reported losing her company cell phone somewhere inside her house Dec. 18.

A Spier Road resident, who did not speak English, used a translator to tell police he found a cell phone in Flushing, Queens, on Dec. 20. Police advised the resident to take the cell phone to the local police department in Flushing.

Firefighters
On Dec. 16, firefighters were dispatched to a Kent Road house because of de-icing wires burning on the roof. The homeowner had already extinguished the fire when firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters noted the fire had also damaged a small area of the house’s siding and gutter. Firefighters disconnected the faulty wiring at the circuit panel and from an outside plug. They advised the resident to contact an electrician.

Water was leaking outside an Elm Road house Dec. 17. Firefighters shut the water supply at a valve and advised the homeowner to call a plumber.

Smoke from a curling iron in a Heathcote Road house caused a fire alarm to sound Dec. 17.

A Hamilton Road homeowner removed a charred space heater from his home after detecting burning inside the casing Dec. 18. Firefighters further extinguished the space heater, which was outside at that point. They advised the homeowner to discontinue use of the device.

On Dec. 19, an Autenreith Road house was showing elevated levels of carbon monoxide due to a car running inside a garage. Firefighters ventilated the garage and house and advised the resident to not run a car inside a closed or partially closed structure, such as a garage. While responding to this car, public safety personnel took Covid-19 precautions, due to the fact that the resident said her daughter was quarantining due to reported virus exposure.
On Dec. 19, cleaning agents used in Brite Avenue house were causing false-positive gas detection readings inside the house.

On Dec. 19, a boiler that was low on fuel at Heathcote School sounded a warning alarm. Firefighters examined the scene and requested that a custodian respond to perform proper maintenance and address the matter.

A Scarsdale High School custodian got stuck inside an elevator in the science wing of the building Dec. 19. Firefighters opened the doors to the elevator and released the custodian. The elevator was placed out of service.

Fireplace smoke activated a smoke alarm in a Greendale Road house Dec. 19. Firefighters checked the flue to make sure the fireplace was venting properly.

On Dec. 20, firefighters responded to Scarsdale Synagogue on Ogden Road because of a reported gas odor coming from a Con Edison excavation site. Firefighters stood by for Con Edison.
