Spring Galas Galore

savethedateThe spring fundraising season is here.  Save the date for these important community events: On March 16, the Junior League of Central Westchester will celebrate their 65th Anniversary with a gala: “Lights, Camera, ACTION!” at 7:00 pm at Lake Isle Country Club. The JLCW will celebrate 65 years of growth and will help them continue to promote the literacy, health and welfare of children and families in the JLCW service areas of White Plains, Greenburgh, Eastchester and Scarsdale. The evening will include cocktails, dinner and dancing and the emcee of the event will be Brian Conybeare, Anchor from News 12 Westchester. Honorees of the evening will be Family Services of Westchester, Scarsdale resident and JLCW member Lynne Clark, and Past Presidents of the JLCW. On Wednesday April 18, Florie Wachtenheim will be honored for outstanding volunteer community service at the Scarsdale Bowl Dinner at Lake Isle Country Club. Wachtenheim will be the 75th recipient of the Scarsdale Bowl Award and the 22nd woman selected. Nominators on the Scarsdale Bowl Committee recommended Wachtenheim as “a volunteer leader in Scarsdale who worked cooperatively with neighbors to make the right choices as a group.” The dinner will be held at Lake Isle Country Club at 6:30 pm. Pediatric Cancer Foundation is rocking to ‘80’s flavored funk as well as songs by the Beatles, Clapton, and Stones, Thursday, April 19, 2012, from 7-11pm at Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club, 555 South Barry Ave., Mamaroneck, NY. Four bands including The Del Bocas, Not Dead Yet, The New Irrelevants and Route 9 are donating their time and music to benefit children with cancer. Bianca Muniz, a 17 year-old cancer survivor and vocalist will be the keynote speaker. This adult only, denim chic attire evening will include a silent and live auction. Let’s Get Ready will hold their Sixth Annual Gala Event at 583 Park Avenue (at 63rd Street) on Monday, April 23rd. The event will honor the Cornell Let's Get Ready Program and Chase. Let’s Get Ready expands college access for motivated, low-income high school students by providing FREE SAT preparation and college admission counseling. They mobilize and train college student volunteers to be the "Coaches", mentors, and role-models who provide not only SAT instruction and college admissions guidance, but the encouragement and inspiration students need to succeed. LGR runs 63 programs throughout the northeast serving about 2,560 students with the assistance of over 1,000 college volunteers. Westchester Jewish Community Services will hold their 2012 gala at the Moderne Barn in Armonk on Tuesday April 24 at 6:30 pm. The event will honor Victor Hershaft and Laura Klenhandler. There will be hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and food stations. Proceeds from the event support WJCS initiatives including, KICS School-Based Mental Health in Yonkers, Off the Streets" in Mt. The Auxiliary of White Plains Hospital is holding their Annual Spring Event on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 11:30 am at Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, NY. The featured speaker will be Andrew Ross Sorkin, a Scarsdale High School graduate of the class of 1995. Mr. Sorkin is currently an anchor on the CNBC TV show Squawk Box as well as financial columnist for The New York Times. He is also the author of the award-winning book, Too Big to Fail. The JCC of Mid-Westchester will celebrate their revitalization with dinner and dancing at a gala on Tuesday May 22 at 7:00 pm at the Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase. DOROT alleviates social isolation among the elderly and provides services to help them live independently as valued members of the community. They serve the Jewish and wider community, bringing the generations together in a mutually beneficial partnership of elders, volunteers and professionals. In 2004 DOROT expanded to Westchester County.
