Spring Galas Galore

centerpieceThough the temperatures still feel like winter, the spring gala season is upon us. Many local organizations are holding their annual fundraisers in April and May and invite you to attend. Here are a few to consider:

Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS) will celebrate their 70th Anniversary Gala on Tuesday night April 9 from 6:30 – 9:30 pm at the Moderne Barn in Armonk. The gala will honor Carol Corbin and Jerry Harnik and include a cocktail party featuring delicious hors d'oeuvres, generous food stations and desserts. The Scarsdale Bowl dinner, honoring William S. Miller will be held on Wednesday, April 17, at 6:30 PM (reception) and 7:30 PM (dinner) at Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester. The Scarsdale Bowl is presented annually to one person who exemplifies the volunteer service tradition of Scarsdale. This year, the Bowl recipient is William S. Miller, a dedicated community leader for over 40 years. The dinner also honors all guests who volunteer and provides a favorite community celebration for all Scarsdale residents. Tickets are $80 and business attire is recommended. Reserve by Friday April 5 to guarantee your seat. Late reservations cannot be guaranteed space but can be received until 9:00 AM April 12. The Junior League of Central Westchester's (JLCW) Spring Fundraiser, Magic and Mingling, will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013. Taking place at The Coliseum in White Plains, NY, the evening promises many magical treats and surprises including entertainment by Dan White, a fabulous buffet dinner and cocktails and an amazing silent auction. Magician Dan White is internationally-acclaimed and has mystified audiences around the globe. He is the creator and star of the Discovery Channel's The Supernaturalist in which he travels through Nepal in search of the miraculous. White serves as head magic producer for David Blaine and has recently become a creative consultant for illusionist David Copperfield.  In addition to White's performance, the evening's silent auction is not to be missed. Tickets are $85 each through April 16 when the price increases to $100 per ticket. Admission includes a buffet dinner, open bar and entertainment. Let's Get Ready, providing low-income high school students with free SAT preparation and admissions counseling will hold their 7th Annual Gala on Monday April 29 at 6 pm at 583 Park Avenue. The gala honors Nelson Chai, President of CIT group with special guest Dr. James Peterson, Director of Africana Studies at Lehigh University. Ticket prices start at $350. The Gourmet Galaxy, sponsored by Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Service will be held on May 1st at Westchester Country Club. Local restaurants have joined with SFCS to present the favorites on their menus, serving selections will from all over the globe. The evening's entertainment is provided by Jay Michaels and WFAS broadcasting live as Scarsdale's Mark Bezos is honored with the Open Door Award for Community Service. Bezos is a senior vice president in charge of communications and events at the Robin Hood Foundation, a private poverty-fighting charity. He is also captain of Scarsdale Volunteer Fire Company 2. The JCC of Mid-Westchester will hold their annual gala on Thursday May 2 at the Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase. This year the gala honors Karen Spar Kasner and NYS Assemblywoman Amy Paulin. Entertainment will be provided by "The Mentalist" Marc Salem. The evening will include cocktails, dinner, entertainment and a silent auction. Congregation Kol Ami will hold their spring fundraiser on Saturday May 4 from 7:30 – 11 pm at the synagogue at 252 Soundview Avenue in White Plains. The event honors Andrea Seiden, Jay Hack and the synagogue's building committee. Special guest Robert Klein will entertain the group and there will be drinks and dinner as well. Scarsdale Synagogue Tremont Temple Emanuel will celebrate their past, present and future at their annual fundraiser on May 11, 2013. Attendees will dine at congregant's homes and come together for dancing, decadent desserts and a live and silent auction at the temple on Ogden Road in Scarsdale.
