The Village has not incinerated garbage in Scarsdale for decades, though some incineration still occurs at a county facility operated by Wheelabrator in Peekskill.

Deputy Village Manager Emily Giovanni explained, โ€œThe Incinerator Building was built in the 1930's and was historically used for the disposal of solid waste. The facility has been non-operational for several years. The building was in very poor condition, had broken windows, cracked concrete and deteriorated steel. An inspection of the building by the Village's Superintendent of Public Works, Jeff Coleman, concluded that the Incinerator Building was beyond salvageable and needed to be demolished.
