Police Report: Burglaries and Car Break-ins over Holiday Weekend

Burglaries: A burglar alarm alerted police to a burglary attempt at a Franklin Road house at 5:38 p.m., Nov. 29. Police found the door kicked in. Nothing was determined to have been stolen. Detectives are investigating.

A burglar alarm alerted police to a burglary in a Cushman Road house at 6: 37 p.m., Nov. 29. The door was kicked in, and the homeowner reported several pieces of jewelry, worth more than $2,000 combined, were stolen. Detectives are investigating.

Car break-ins
On Dec. 1, several residents in the village reported larcenies and attempted larcenies from unlocked parked cars overnight Nov. 30. The incidents occurred on Dobbs Terrace, Walworth Avenue, Greenacres Avenue and Ridgecrest North. Stolen items included rolls of quarters, loose change, a $30 coat, cologne, an insurance card and designer sunglasses. No damages were reported. One Greenacres Avenue resident had video surveillance footage of two men walking around on his property and forwarded it to detectives for investigation.

Stolen bike
A girl stated her $75 white mountain bicycle was stolen from the Brewster Road side of the high school Nov. 26. It had been chained to a fence on Nov. 18 and was last seen there on Nov. 22. Police checked with school officials, and they said it was not their policy to remove bikes from school grounds.

Domestic matter
A Fox Meadow man reported approximately $400,000 worth of high-value jewelry and silverware was missing from his house. He is currently in the process of divorce and has not lived in the house since September 2018. His ex-wife stated she did not know where the items were.

Housemate dispute
Two tenants who rent rooms in a Post Road house were arguing over possible noise Nov. 28. One of the tenants said he would sleep in a hotel that night to avoid trouble. Police stayed on scene while the tenant gathered his belongings.

On Nov. 30, a Post Road landlord reported a dispute between two tenants. The nature of the dispute involved the volume of a television. After speaking with both tenants, they determined that co-habitation was not a good idea. Police advised the landlord about eviction procedures.

Harassment
On Nov. 25, a 23-year-old woman reported harassment from some social media comments posted on her Facebook account by an acquaintance.

A Roosevelt Place man reported his son was being followed by a vehicle for over 15 minutes around 11 p.m., Nov. 28. Police spoke with the driver of the vehicle. The driver said he had engaged in following the son because the son was ”suspicious.” When pressed for details about the alleged “suspicious” behavior, the driver was unable to elaborate or provide any specific reasons. Patrol advised both parties to go their separate ways.

Disorderly conduct
An intoxicated man got into an argument with a 7-Eleven employee while trying to buy cigarettes from the Scarsdale Avenue store at 3:45 a.m., Nov. 27. Police spoke with the man and he was cooperative with police orders. No crime was committed.

Door
After a woman complained on Dec. 1 that she was stuck inside the lobby vestibule of Chase Bank on Palmer Avenue, police determined that the release bar on the door had to be pressed hard in order to get the door to open. Police informed bank employees for adjustment.

Arrest on warrant
On Nov. 25, police picked up Alejandro Palma, 25, of White Plains, from White Plains police and arrested him in execution of an active arrest warrant issued out of Scarsdale on April 4, 2018, for failure to appear in court. Palma was released on his own recognizance with an appearance ticket for Village Justice Court, returnable Nov. 27.

Pedestrian hit
On Nov. 25, at 12:53 p.m., a Taunton Road woman was hit by a gray Honda at Chase Road and Harwood Court. No injuries were reported.

Cars and roadways
On Nov. 25, police observed a car parked out of parking space lines on Spencer Place and issued a summons.

Police helped a woman cross Weaver Street Nov. 25.

Police helped a woman rectify a difficulty in operating her Mercedes Benz SUV in the parking lot of Village Hall Nov. 25.

Police directed traffic around a disabled car on Heathcote Road until a tow arrived Nov. 25.

Police advised the foreman of a roadway work zone on Fox Meadow Road that the situation was unsafe because only one flagger was present to direct traffic flow on a single open lane Nov. 26. The foreman said he would correct the matter immediately.

Police advised the water department about a water main break on Grand Park Avenue Nov. 26.

Police called a tow for a car with two flat tires at Weaver Street and Crossway Nov. 26. In the meantime, patrol directed traffic around the disabled car.

Police called a tow for a car that ran out of gas on Heathcote Road Nov. 28.

Patrol moved a low-hanging phone wire out of the way of traffic over Stratton Road and Rural Drive and notified Verizon Nov. 28.

Police advised a Nelson Road resident that a broken branch dangling over the roadway posed a danger Nov. 28. The resident said the branch was scheduled to be removed by a private contractor. Police advised the resident to expedite the job.

A stop sign fell over on Rodney Road due to a deteriorated base Nov. 29. Police placed a temporary stop sign at the intersection and alerted the highway department for replacement.

A construction crew on Griffen Avenue was ordered to stop work until sufficient flagmen could be put in place Nov. 30.
Police asked the owner of a Toyota parked haphazardly on Saxon Woods Road to move the car, and the owner complied Nov. 30.

Dogs
Police reunited a loose dog found at Mamaroneck and Garden roads with its owner Nov. 27.

A Webster Road woman reported that her three dogs escaped from her yard Nov. 28. Police entered descriptions of the dogs in the lost dog book.

Lost and found
On Nov. 29, a woman walked into headquarters and reported losing her driver’s license somewhere in the village.
On Nov. 29, an Oak Lane man reported losing his license plates in Massachusetts due to an auto accident.
A passerby found a United States Uniformed Services ID Card and Privilege Card by the train station on Depot Place and gave them to police Nov. 30. Police vouchered the property for safekeeping.

Eastchester fire
Police assisted with the evacuation of occupants inside a Grand Boulevard structure in which there was an active fire at 5:17 a.m., Dec. 1.

Firefighters
According to Fire Chief James Seymour, firefighters responded to 28 incidents during the reporting period.

On Nov. 25, firefighters ventilated a Hampton Road house in order to reduce carbon monoxide levels. The CO accumulation had been caused by a contractor using a gas-powered saw in the basement.

Firefighters assisted with a structure fire on Healy Avenue in Hartsdale Nov. 28.

A cat was stuck on a neighbor’s roof on Hamilton Road for two days before firefighters used an aerial ladder to collect the cat and bring it down in a carrier Nov. 29. It was returned to its owner unharmed.

On Nov. 30, firefighters residents of a Windsor Lane house because of elevated levels of carbon monoxide. Investigation determined the source was back-feed from burned-out, underground electrical service. Firefighters ventilated the house and stood by for Con Edison. Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps was called to evaluate all occupants.

On Dec. 1, firefighters assisted with a two-car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
