Photo Credit: Jon MarkScam: On Oct. 31, a Horseguard Lane resident reported being scammed out of $17,500 when a person alleging to be the resident’s granddaughter called, stating she had been in a car accident and needed money for legal help. A person alleging to be the granddaughter’s lawyer came to the house and picked up the cash before the resident realized the incident was a scam.

Theft
A woman claimed she was “pick-pocketed,” resulting in a stolen wallet worth $900, while dining at a Chase Road restaurant Nov. 3.

Concerns
On Oct. 31, a caller reported a white male dancing on East Parkway with his pants starting to fall down. He was describes as wearing yellow sweat pants and a ponytail. Patrol made contact with the man. He stated his vehicle broke down en route to an auto dealership to get a new vehicle. He said he was waiting for assistance. He was advised of the public's concerns.

On Nov. 1, a man was reported to be sleeping in a red hatchback parked on East Parkway. The man was on is phone when police arrived. He said his battery was dead. Patrol offered to help jump the battery, but the man refused help.

On Nov. 1, a barefooted man was allegedly acting erratic, pacing back and forth and screaming at customers inside an East Parkway establishment. When police went to the location, the man got up from a corner table and fled to the restroom. The man then fled the establishment, leaving his personal belongings behind. The manager of the establishment said he would place the belongings in the establishment’s “lost and found” area.

On Nov. 4, an East Parkway business owner reported an unknown man had been banging on the business door and window, accusing the owner of having called the police. The owner stated she had been closing the business, and the doors were locked. The owner stated the man left shortly before patrol's arrival. The owner stated that such incidents have become more frequent and requested extra police presence in the area.

Suspicious
On Nov. 2, a Nelson Road woman advised that she was walking her dog on Roosevelt Place when she observed a vehicle driving slowly along side her. She described the vehicle as an old, red, 4-door sedan being driven by a man who was allegedly holding a cell phone light in her direction as he drive by slowly. When she stopped walking, he stopped the vehicle and then reversed in her direction. She became fearful and ran home. She advised that her neighbor, who resides on Roosevelt Place, also saw the vehicle and found it suspicious. The woman requested ridebys of the area.

On Nov. 3, a Fox Meadow woman reported suspicious activity from a man the previous evening, Nov. 2. She alleged a man attempted to follow her home from the train station that night. She said she observed a white man wearing a dark blue hoodie holding a drink concealed by a paper bag in the vestibule above the train tracks. She believes the man followed her onto the 17:24 train to Grand Central. She did not observe the man again until she returned to Scarsdale. When she exited the 23:10 train at Scarsdale, she observed the man on the platform. She walked north up the stairs and entered a vehicle on East Parkway in front of the train station. The man reportedly walked to the sidewalk and stood there as her vehicle left the scene.

Police advised her to contact them if she sees or encounters the man again.

Neighbors
On Nov. 1, a Graham Road homeowner stated that, due to a house fire, she is required to use a generator to power her home while work is being performed. She stated her neighbor continuously complains about the noise and smell of the generator. The homeowner alleged that the neighbor has also called the Village, portrayed herself as the owner of the property and inquired on the use of the generator. The homeowner wished to have these incidents documented.

Mischief
Kids were reportedly ringing doorbells and running away on Roosevelt Place Nov. 1.

Help
A non-English speaking woman who lived with her family in the Village was provided a courtesy ride to the house after she was found to be walking and lost her way Nov. 2.

Cars and roadways
Police removed a fallen branch from Oxford Road Oct. 30.
The owner of a car with scofflaw status, found parked on East Parkway, returned to move the car before police could have it towed Oct. 30. The owner promised to go to Village Hall to pay the unpaid parking tickets and resolve the scofflaw status.
Police notified Verizon about a low-hanging wire on Park Road Oct. 30.
A worker relocated his truck on Barker Lane because it was blocking a fire hydrant Oct. 31.
Police helped a woman find her parked car on Christie Place Oct. 31.
On Nov. 2, police found an unlocked BMW with its lights on parked in a Crossway driveway.
An “aggressive” driver was reported in a parking lot belonging to a Greenacres Avenue church Nov. 2.
Police stood by for safety and traffic control while a driver changed a flat tire on Post Road Nov. 2.
On Nov. 2, a Cooper Road resident’s car alarm went off, and the resident went outside and found his trunk open. Nothing was reported missing.
Police helped a driver jumpstart his car on East Parkway Nov. 2.
On Nov. 4, police issued a 45-year-old Port Chester man a summons for driving with a suspended registration following a traffic stop on Mamaroneck Road.

Three car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.

Village code
Police removed illegally posted signs on Post Road, Boulevard and Weaver Street Nov. 1, from Crossway Nov. 3, from Weaver Street and East Parkway Nov. 4, and from East Parkway Nov. 5.

On Nov. 2, an allegedly “irate” man was reported to be tearing down flyers of the Israeli hostages posted on poles on East Parkway. He told police he was removing signs because they were illegally posted. Police advised him to notify authorities and refrain from taking matters into his own hands, as it was causing conflict with other members of the public.

Police advised a Garth Road restaurant that neighbors were complaining of noise and said they could not sleep Nov. 3. Music was turned off.

Lost and found
An ID was left at police headquarters Nov. 1.

Firefighters
On Oct. 31, students at the Alternative School were performing an experiment heating candy in a test tube. The candy caught fire in the test tube and the hood vent shut down. The fire extinguished itself, and smoke resulting from the fire set off the fire alarm. The building was unoccupied at the time because students and staff had evacuated.
On Oct. 31, firefighters assisted Fairview fire department with a structure fire in its jurisdiction.
On Nov. 1, firefighters assisted at a car accident at Post Road and Boulevard. One driver was taken to the hospital with injuries. Both cars were towed from the scene.
Firefighters helped an Edgewood Road resident get back in the house after being accidentally locked out.
An overheated boiler started smoking in a Brewster Road house Nov. 1. Carbon monoxide was released. Firefighters shut off the boiler and ventilated until air quality was determined to be safe.
A contractor using a compressor to blow out the pipes of a lawn sprinkler system caused carbon monoxide to enter a Tompkins Road building Nov. 2. Firefighters ventilated the space.
On Nov. 2, firefighters assisted water department personnel with a water main break in a work trench on Sheldrake Road.
On Nov. 3, firefighters helped paramedics move a patient on Saxon Woods Road.
On Nov. 5, firefighters helped turn off water from a broken pipe on Graham Road. The broken pipe was reported by a neighbor who said the flowing water was flooding his property.
On Nov. 5, firefighters helped a Graham Road resident with leaking washing machine.

Arrested: After observing a car with a flat tire at Post and Heathcote roads at 8:30 a.m., Oct. 26, police conducted a traffic stop, which resulted in the arrest of the driver – Gyasi N. Cooke, 34, of the Bronx – due to police learning of a bench warrant for the driver’s arrest. The warrant was issued by another jurisdiction.

Scam
A Heathcote Road man reported receiving a call claiming he had won a two million dollar prize for paying his energy bill on time Oct. 24. The caller provided information about the man’s family members, which he found to be concerning. The caller further stated he would arrive at the man’s house on Oct. 5 to drive him to the bank to cash the prize check. The man was afraid the scammer would show up at his house and requested police ridebys.

A Herkimer Road woman received an international call from Iran that played a recorded message stating the woman had an outstanding Amazon account balance Oct. 26.

Identity theft
On Oct. 23, an Olmsted Road woman reported someone fraudulently attempted to open an American Express account in her name. The creditor flagged it as suspicious and did not open the account.

On Oct. 23, a School Lane woman reported a fraudulent credit card was opened in her name.

On Oct. 25, a Brookline Road man report someone fraudulently attempted to open a credit card account in his name. The creditor flagged it as suspicious and did not open the account.

Attempted burglary
A Quaker Center resident reported it appeared that someone attempted to enter his house through a broken living room window Oct. 28. The incident occurred while the resident was out for dinner.

Disputes
A driver reported a man, who is a friend of hers, was refusing to leave her car on East Parkway Oct. 23. They had gone to a restaurant and she was providing him with transportation home, but she stopped when he allegedly became angry and began hitting the dashboard and yelling at her. She pulled over and told him to get out of her car, she said. When police arrived, the man got out of the car. The driver confirmed there was no damage to her dashboard.

Police mediated a dispute between residents with a shared Brewster Road driveway Oct. 29. They were advised by police that the matter was civil in nature.

Suspicious
A Fox Meadow Road building manager reported a red Toyota drove into the parking lot, circled the building and a two Asian woman in their 30s, who were inside the car, took photos of the building.

A man wearing what appeared to be a Con Edison vest and employee lanyard rang a Brewster Road woman’s doorbell and asked to read the meter. The woman did not open the door due to not receiving advance notification from Con Edison. She checked the man’s credentials with Con Edison, and the company allegedly had no records of him being employed with Con Edison. He was described as a white man in his late 40s, approximately 5’10” to 6’ tall, around 250 pounds and wearing a blue T-shirt and blue baseball cap.

Two young Hispanic men in a small dark colored sedan asked a Murray Hill Road resident if there were any Halloween parties on the street Oct. 26. The resident found it suspicious and called police. The men left in their car.

On Oct. 26, a skinny Asian teenager, approximately 16-21 years old, carrying a yellow notebook knocked on the door of a Brite Avenue house and asked the resident if the household celebrated Christmas. The resident found it suspicious and called police.

Lights were on in a Meadow Road house, and neighbors were concerned it might be because of squatters Oct. 27. Police checked the house and found no evidence of squatters.

Bicyclist hit
On Oct. 24, a child riding a bicycle was struck by a car at Mamaroneck and Catherine roads. The child was able to walk to an ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.

Cars and roadways
Police reported low-hanging wires to Verizon on Boulevard Oct. 24.

On Oct. 25, police removed a road closure sign that had been put in place too early, prior to work being actively performed, on Morris Lane.

Police called a tow for a disabled car on Post Road Oct. 26.

A tree fell on North Chase Road, struck wires and damaged a fence Oct. 26.

Construction equipment was making it hard for a Hampton Road resident to get in and out of her driveway Oct. 27. Police asked workers to move the equipment as a courtesy.

Police advised a woman walking on Post Road in skimpy ballet flats to walk on the sidewalk for safety Oct. 27.

Police issued summonses for parking violations on Potter and Lee roads Oct. 28.

Police conducted a traffic stop for speeding on Post Road shortly before midnight Oct 28 into 29. Before police could finish writing the summonses, the 32-year-old White Plains driver sped off. This resulted in additional summonses being issued.

Police helped truck driver with directions on Mamaroneck Road Oct. 29.

Five car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.

Animals
Highway department workers were notified about a dead raccoon in the roadway on Mamaroneck Road Oct. 25.

Firefighters helped assist a magician’s dove from a tree after a caller reported the bird was stuck on a sign in the tree Oct. 27. On arrival units found a large group in the park with a magician. The magician's dove was startled and flew up onto a suspended sign located approximately 25' in the trees. FD units raised the ladder and were able to retrieve the dove from the tree. The dove was returned to the magician.

Village code
Police asked a Carthage Road resident, a Boulevard resident and a Shaw Road resident to lower the volume of music after neighbors complained of noise Oct. 27. The incidents were unrelated.

Police removed illegally posted advertising signs on East Parkway, Popham Road and Taunton Road Oct. 28.

On Oct. 28, police dispersed a large group of kids blocking sidewalks in the area of Greenacres and Walworth avenues.

Police asked a Penn Blvd. resident to lower the volume of music after neighbors complained of noise Oct. 29.

Lost and found
Credit cards and an ID were found on East Parkway Oct. 23.

A Boulevard resident reported lost license plates Oct. 23.

A passerby found a credit card in the Village and gave it to police Oct. 24.

Another passerby found a credit card on Kingston Road and gave it to police Oct. 24. The card had already been cancelled.

Firefighters
On Oct. 23, a driver noticed his car was smoking on Reimer Road. He exited the car and called for help. Firefighters extinguished a fire under the hood. The damaged car was towed from the scene.

On Oct. 24, firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a gas leak on Heathcote
Road.

On Oct. 24, firefighters ventilated a Kensington Road house after a gas fireplace was leaking.

A child was stuck in a car seat due to a locked up seat belt at the Scarsdale library Oct. 25. Firefighters cut the seat belt to release the child.

On Oct. 26, firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a gas leak from an Edgewood Road stove.

A caller reported three teens – two boys and one girl, all wearing black – started a fire at Greendale and Eton roads, then stomped it out and fled the location Oct. 27. Firefighters went to the scene and confirmed the fire was out. Teens should be cautioned that starting fires is illegal and dangerous.

On Oct. 28, firefighters helped retrieve a fallen cell phone from a storm drain on Palmer Avenue.

On Oct. 28, firefighters moved a fallen wire from Crane Road.

On Oct. 28, firefighters assisted a Normandy Lane resident with a water leak into a light fixture and alarm box. They advised the homeowner to call a plumber, an alarm tech and an electrician.

On Oct. 29, firefighters assisted at a car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway.

Arrested: Following a single-car accident, with injuries, on Griffen and Grand Park avenues Oct. 22, around 11:30 a.m., police arrested the driver – Karla Meldholguin, 22, of Bridgeport, Connecticut – on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), consuming alcohol while in a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and aggravated unlicensed driving. According to the accident report, the driver’s 2021 BMW, went off the roadway at Griffen Avenue and Grand Park Avenue and struck a stone retaining wall. A bottle of tequila and a water bottle filled with alcohol were found inside the car. Firefighters and police moved the car back to the road and secured it while SVAC assisted the driver prior to her arrest.

Stolen car
On Oct. 19, at 1:45 a.m., police were advised that a black Acura sedan stolen out of New Jersey triggered the license plate reader near the Hartsdale Train Station. Patrol responded to the area and located the reported stolen vehicle stopped in the roadway in front of a Shawnee Road house. As patrol turned onto the street, the vehicle sped away. Patrol was able to maintain a visual of the vehicle as it drove south on Shawnee, west on Chesterfield Road, north on Brite Avenue and then west on Fenimore Road. The vehicle subsequently got on the Bronx River Parkway South at a high rate of speed. Patrol was able to maintain a visual of the vehicle and relay its location to the dispatcher who sent out a bulletin to other agencies. Patrol discontinued following the vehicle, and Westchester County Police intercepted it further south. Patrol subsequently responded back to the area where the vehicle was first located to canvass for any signs of criminal activity, with negative results.

Identity theft
On Oct. 19, a Burgess Road woman reported someone applied for an American Express cash card in her name without her permission.

Dispute
On Oct. 18, a driver on Scarsdale Avenue reported her partner was refusing to exit her vehicle despite being asked numerous times. The driver said the incident has not gotten physical and requested police assistance. Police made contact with the partner who stated that he was just waiting for his taxi to arrive and would be leaving shortly. While patrol was on scene, the partner's taxi arrived, and he left without further incident.

Disorderly conduct
On Oct. 22, an Edgewood Road resident reported that he received a Door Dash delivery from a white sedan occupied by two men. Upon receiving the delivery, the resident believes the passenger of the vehicle urinated into a gallon jug and left it on his front lawn. Door Dash was notified of this incident. The resident requested a report for documentation purposes only.

Suspicious
On Oct. 19, a caller advised of a suspicious person wearing a green and white scarf around his neck “ripping down posters and staring at people” on East Parkway. The suspect was gone when police arrived.

On Oct. 21, at 10:20 p.m., a Paddington Road resident reported someone rang the doorbell and ran away. The involved party was described as wearing a blue hoodie, jeans and white sneakers.

Pedestrian struck
On Oct. 19, a caller advised that on October 12, around 1 p.m., he was walking on the sidewalk near the ramp to the underground Christie Place Garage when a vehicle that was exiting struck him. Due to several days passing between the incident and the caller advising the police department, he was directed to complete a civilian accident report on the NYS DMV website.

Cars and roadways
Police issued summonses to an illegally parked car on Paddington Road Oct. 18.
Police issued fived summonses to a driver following a traffic stop on Mamaroneck Road Oct. 18.
On Oct. 19, a caller reported a suspicious gray pickup truck parked in front of a Meadow Road house with dark tinted windows. The driver was sleeping inside. He said he was on his way from Yonkers to Connecticut. Police issued summonses for observed violations.
On Oct. 19, ambulance personnel reported a maroon Subaru crossed over the solid double yellow line and struck the ambulance at Post and Popham roads and did not stop. The car continued into Eastchester. Dispatch notified Eastchester police.
Patrol notified Con Edison about a low-hanging wire on Madison Road Oct. 20.
A car ran out of gas on Post Road Oct. 20. Police offered assistance, but the driver said AAA was already on its way.
A tree fell on Ardmore Road Oct. 21. Police put caution tape around the tree and notified the highway department.
Police issued a summons to an improperly parked car on Christie Place due to the fact the driver of the neighboring car could not access his own car due to the cars touching each other Oct. 21.
Police assisted a driver with a flat tire on Mamaroneck Road Oct. 21.

Animals
A woman and her dog were allegedly “swarmed by bees” on Post Road Oct. 19. She then advised she lost her dog in the commotion. Patrol arrived on scene and was able to locate the missing dog. The woman did not request any medical attention.

Village code
On Oct. 22, police removed an illegally posted sign on Griffen Avenue. A summons was issued.

Lost and found
Patrol found a medical insurance card on Boulevard and notified the insurance agency Oct. 18. The customer service representative stated she would notify the owner and issue a replacement card. She requested that police dispose of the insurance card.

A driver’s license was found at Post and Burgess roads Oct. 20.

On Oct. 22, a Kelwynne Road resident reported losing the front license plate of his car.

Firefighters
Firefighters assisted with a car accident on the Bronx River Parkway Oct. 17.
On Oct. 18, firefighters were called to a Vanderbilt Road house for a reported odor of gas. Firefighters traced the odor of natural gas to the stove and requested a Con Edison response. They verified a minor gas leak and shut the gas service to the stove. The resident was advised to service the unit by using a qualified repair technician prior to turning the gas back on. The structure was checked, and no additional hazards were observed.

Firefighters notified Con Edison about a tripped electrical transformer on Sycamore Road Oct. 20.

Scams
On Oct. 12, a Drake Road resident advised she had been scammed out of $6,100 in gift cards.
On Oct. 12, a Heathcote Road woman advised she had been scammed out of $300 on the Scarsdale Social site.

Dispute
Police intervened in a dispute between a woman and an employee of a package pickup location on Scarsdale Avenue Oct. 9. The employee would not release the package to the woman because she did not have a photo ID. Police assisted her and convinced the employee to accept an insurance card as proof of ID in order to release the package.

Cars and roadways
On Oct. 9, police put traffic cones around a sewer where the grate cap fell inside on Weaver Street, while waiting for firefighters who arrived to retrieve and replace the grate.

On Oct. 9, police issued summonses to a 44-year-old Bronx driver found driving on Sherbrooke Road with a suspended registration.

Police advised the driver of a construction vehicle to relocate the parked vehicle because a resident was having trouble accessing her driveway on Hampton Road Oct. 11.

On Oct. 12, police issued summonses to a 28-year-old White Plains driver found driving on Post Road with a suspended registration and an insurance violation.

On Oct. 13, police re-positioned a loose sewer cap on Heathcote Road.

Construction equipment was blocking a stop sign on Fox Meadow Road Oct. 13. Police put up a portable stop sign to assist.

Police notified Verizon and Con Edison about low-hanging wires on Highland Way Oct. 14.

On Oct. 12, police issued summonses to a 29-year-old Bronx driver found driving on Heathcote Road with registration, licensing and insurance violations, as well as missing and obscured license plates.

Police mailed a summons to the owner of a business who posted an advertising sign in the Village right of way on Heathcote Road Oct. 10.

Police advised excavation workers about proper work times on White Birch Lane Oct. 14.

Police advised the manager of Fenway Golf Club to lower the volume of music being played at a party after a resident complained Oct. 14.

Lost and found
A license plate was found on Post Road Oct. 9. Police vouched it for safekeeping.

Firefighters
On Oct. 10, firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of an indoor gas odor in a Brewster Road house. The Con Edison technician verified a leak from an appliance, isolated it and advised contacting a plumber to perform a repair. Firefighters assisted with ventilation.

On Oct. 11, firefighters helped pump water from a Haverford Road basement.

On Oct.11, firefighters helped a Penn Blvd resident change a smoke detector battery.

On Oct. 14, firefighters partially extinguished a fireplace fire with a water can and opened a closed flue at a home on Heathcote Road. Positive pressure ventilation was used to clear smoke from the house. The house was evaluated for carbon monoxide with negative results. Firefighters educated the resident on proper function of the flue and discussed the importance of flue and chimney inspection and maintenance.
