An electrical fire broke out in a Palmer Avenue house around 4:25 p.m., Dec. 13. All residents had evacuated the house before police, firefighters and Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps arrived on scene. A resident reported he had used a fire extinguisher to put out a mattress fire in the basement before firefighters arrived. Firefighters noted evidence of an extension of the fire that had come from an electrical outlet. Smoke was present throughout the house, and Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported one resident to the hospital. Firefighters removed the burned mattress and box spring from the house and further extinguished it with a water can. Investigation showed that a cell phone charger had been plugged into the outlet next to the mattress, and the mattress had gotten pushed against the charger and outlet. The fire was determined to have been caused by overheating of the charger, with extension to the mattress and box spring.

DWI
On Dec. 12, police observed a 2018 Mazda CX5 driving without lights on Post Road around 9:20 p.m. The Mazda was also seen driving into a lane of oncoming traffic. Police initiated a traffic stop and noticed a scent of alcoholic beverage coming from the car as the driver – Jasmine Ramirez, 27, of the Bronx – rolled down her window. She showed other signs of intoxication, such as glassy eyes and slurred speech. She told police she had consumed “a few cocktails … a few minutes ago” at a White Plains restaurant. When asked to present her license and registration, Ramirez showed “poor coordination” and first presented police with a credit card, followed by parking tickets. Ramirez failed field sobriety tests, and an alcosensor test indicated the presence of alcohol on her breath. Ramirez was arrested and taken to headquarters, where a Datamaster test measured a blood alcohol level that was above the legal limit. Ramirez was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense), aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol level of .18 or more with no priors, driving to the left of pavement markings and an equipment violation. Ramirez was released on her own recognizance and issued an appearance ticket for Scarsdale Village Justice Court for Dec. 30.

Stolen car
On Dec. 10, a Reimer Road resident reported her 2019 Audi Q5 was stolen from his driveway overnight.

Car break-ins
On Dec. 10, a Parkfield Road man reported his unlocked car had been broken into the previous night. Car doors had been left open, and a $2,000 empty Goyard handbag was stolen.

On Dec. 10, a Brite Avenue man reported his unlocked Ford Expedition had been broken into the previous night. Nothing was stolen. The car was just ”rummaged through.”

On Dec. 10, a Harvest Drive man reported his unlocked Jeep Cherokee had been broken into the previous night. Nothing was stolen. No signs of force were observed.

On Dec. 10, a Reimer Road man reported valuables, including a tennis bag and four tennis rackets, had been stolen from his unlocked Mercedes, parked in his driveway overnight. The doors were left open by the perpetrators, the man said.

Identity theft
On Dec. 7, a Fox Meadow Road woman reported someone used her Social Security number and name to apply for fraudulent Social Security benefits. She said her husband was also a recent victim of a similar identity theft incident.

On Dec. 12, a Crossway man reported someone used his Social Security number and name to attempt to apply for fraudulent Social Security benefits.

On Dec. 12, a Lee Road man also reported someone used his Social Security number and name to attempt to apply for fraudulent Social Security benefits.

Phishing
An Elm Road woman reported receiving suspicious text messages from unknown senders Dec. 13. The texts contain links for unwanted services and sometimes address the woman by her first name. Police advised the woman to block the senders’ numbers and to engage the texts by clicking the links.

Scam
On Dec. 12, a Post Road woman reported receiving an email from someone whom she believed was an acquaintance. The email contained a request for gift cards to be purchased and sent to the email’s sender. At that point, the woman thought the email might be a scam, and she reported it to police. The woman did not experience any financial loss.

Domestic matter
A Fox Meadow couple called police, stating that their 30-year-old daughter was outside their house, kicking the back door, attempting to get inside around 11:15 p.m., Dec. 9. The couple informed police that the daughter might be intoxicated and was in an agitated state. Once police arrived on scene, the couple further told police that the daughter would be allowed into the house once she calmed down. After the daughter took a short walk, she called her parents and advised that she was returning home and would go to sleep. No further police assistance was necessary.

Homeless
A homeless man was observed to be sleeping in a sheltered area on Harwood Court at 9:20 p.m., Dec. 12. The man told police he was making his way to New York City and stopped to nap because he was tired. Police told him he was not permitted to sleep there. Police asked if he needed medical attention or a shelter, and the man refused. Police directed the man to the train station so he could safely continue on his way to New York City.

Out late
At 1:18 a.m., Scarsdale police received a call from New Rochelle police, regarding a group of youth who were seen with backpacks on Weaver Street near Quaker Ridge School. Police thought the kids might have been attempting to commit larcenies. NRPD stopped the kids and interviewed them. It was determined they were New Rochelle residents, and they were dismissed from the area with no further incidents.

Left on the doorstep
The principal of Immaculate Heart of Mary School, on Boulevard, reported receiving an unwanted package by the school’s front door Dec. 8. Police arrived at the school and were directed to a small accordion style file folder that had been left there by an unknown party. Police observed that the folder was moving about in the wind, demonstrating that it was lightweight and possibly empty. Police removed the folder from the school steps to examine it away from school grounds. It was determined to be empty. Police informed school officials that the folder was not dangerous. School officials requested that the folder be thrown away.

Left in mailbox
A Rochambeau Road man reported that a $200 gift card was left inside his mailbox Dec. 9. It was addressed to a person who does not live at his address. The card had a number written on it, and when police put that number and the Rochambeau Road man’s street name together, a GPS system directed police to the address where the gift card was received, even though the street address of the Rochambeau Road man was different.

Flashing lights
On Dec. 12, a caller reported a house near the intersection of Brookby and Wheelock roads to have “flashing interior lights.” Police went to the scene and observed several houses outfitted with Christmas lights and decorations. Some of the lights were flashing. However, police did not see any houses with flashing interior lights.

Concerns
An Edgewood Road woman reported an exterior keypad and light were not functioning properly at her house Dec. 7. Police offered to check the devices, but the woman declined and said her son could check them. She did ask police, however, to conduct extra ridebys in case the keypad might have been tampered with.

Police conducted a walk through of a Murray Hill Road house after a burglar alarm sounded earlier in the day, on Dec. 10. Nothing was discovered missing, but one window screen seemed to be out of place.

After noticing an open garage door at a Carthage Road house Dec. 11, police checked with the homeowner to make sure everything was OK – and it was.

At 2:40 a.m., Dec. 13, a woman called police to report a man was staring at her while she was riding the train home. She asked police to meet her at the station because she was afraid to walk home alone. She later called back to say the man did not exit the train when she got off at the station.

A caller said she saw two women walking on a trail leading from the area of Weaver Street and Haverford Road to Mamaroneck Road, with a man possibly following them, Dec. 13. She reported it so police could check on it. Police canvassed the area and did not see any people walking on a trail.

Cars and roadways
Police notified the Department of Transportation about a large pothole at Weaver Street and Crossway Dec. 7. While waiting for repair, police erected traffic cones around the pothole to alert motorists.

On Dec. 7, a car was involved in an accident with a Bee Line bus on Post Road. The driver and the offending car left the scene.

On Dec. 10, a Liberty Lines bus driver reported a truck rear-ended his bus while the bus was turning left from Post Road onto Boulevard. The bus driver did not stop after the impact because he did not realize the car had struck him, although he heard a noise. The truck could not be identified, as per the driver’s recollection.

The highway department reported a truck struck one of its vehicles at School Lane and Brown Road Dec. 10.

Construction vehicles parked on Park Road were disrupting traffic Dec. 10. Police asked the drivers to move their vehicles.

Police cleared a traffic condition on Mamaroneck Road Dec. 11.

On Dec. 13, a caller reported finding a stop sign from the intersection of Garden and Oxford roads lying on the ground. Police placed the stop sign back in the ground and left a note for the highway department to make sure it was properly anchored in place.

Animals
Police received a report of roosters crowing and making noise on Brewster Road shortly before noon, Dec. 7. Police went to the scene, exited the patrol car and listened. All was quiet and no noise violations were detected.

On Dec. 7, a caller reported seeing a loose dog, possibly a pit bull, running around on Drake and Obry roads. A police canvas of the area yielded negative results.

At 9 a.m., Dec. 12, Brewster Road resident reported hearing noisy roosters. Patrol went to the scene and did not hear any roosters crowing.

Village code
On Dec. 11, a Dobbs Terrace woman reported hearing kids screaming in the street after midnight. Police canvassed the area and did not hear or find any noisy youths.

A caller reported an early morning delivery on Palmer Avenue at 5:41 a.m., Dec. 11. On scene, patrol found a delivery driver waiting in his truck on the street. The driver said he had arrived early and would wait until 6:30 before making his delivery.

After neighbors complained of noise from loud voice and music around 11 p.m., Dec. 11, police advised Lawrence Road residents to move their small gathering inside. They said they would.

Found
A bag belonging to a Massachusetts woman was found on the ground near Crossway field parking lot Dec. 7. Police attempted to find contact information for the owner in order to return the contents of the bag to her. Police called Massachusetts police, who said they would go to the woman’s address and instruct her to contact Scarsdale police.

Firefighters
On Dec. 8, firefighters assisted Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps help free an elderly Village resident who got stuck on the floor beneath a bed. Firefighters also helped SVAC place the woman in an ambulance for further care.

Firefighters assisted at a car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway Dec. 10.

On Dec. 11, firefighters assisted with a car accident on the Bronx River Parkway, involving a car that hit the median guardrail and a patient that was reported to be “in and out of consciousness.” Firefighters removed the battery cables and cleaned up spilled antifreeze. They blocked traffic so the accident could be safely addressed and the patient could be transported to the hospital by SVAC.

A fireplace flue was not operating properly in an Overlook Road house, and smoke was getting into the house Dec. 11. Firefighters determined a fire was contained within the fireplace and had not spread into adjoining walls. Firefighters extinguished the fire, cleaned up the wood embers and used water to fully extinguish them outside. Firefighters advised the homeowner to refrain from using the fireplace again until a chimney professional could examine it.

On Dec. 12, a defective boiler released elevated levels of carbon monoxide into an Obry Road house. Firefighters ventilated the house and stood by for Con Edison. Con Edison red-tagged the boiler.

Public lewdness: The Scarsdale Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an alleged public lewdness incident that occurred on Berwick Road on Dec. 21, at approximately 10:40 am. According to police, the suspect was observed driving a Jeep onto Berwick Road and stopping his vehicle, at which time, he “appeared to be masturbating.” At no time did the suspect attempt to lure or make contact with anyone, police said in a press release. The suspect is described as a white male, in his early 20s, with brown hair. The suspect was last seen operating a dark-colored, 2-door Jeep Wrangler with an unknown white license plate. The suspect’s vehicle was last seen traveling north on Berwick Road. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Scarsdale Police Department at 914-722-1200.

Shoplifting
On Dec. 14, the manager of the Popham Road CVS reported a woman stole approximately $1,000 worth of cosmetics, hair dye and pain relief medication that day. The manger observed the woman place the items in her handbag and leave the store without paying for them. The manager described the woman as heavyset, tanned and wearing blue pants and a polka dot shirt, with a brown hooded jacket. He saw her get into a car and leave the area via the Bronx River Parkway. Police are investigating.

Stolen car
A 2019 Acura RDX was stolen from a Bradley Road driveway overnight and discovered missing on the morning of Dec. 19. Also stolen, inside the car, were Ray Ban sunglasses, a woman’s wallet with a driver’s license, a softball bat, various textbooks and a sled.

Car break-ins
At 4:58 a.m., Dec. 19, a Bradley Road man reported his doorbell security camera detected a person get out of a white SUV and check the door handles of the man’s car to see if they were open. The car was locked, and the person left the area in the white SUV. Police canvassed the area but did not see any suspicious persons or white SUVs.

On Dec. 19, two Ferncliff Road residents reported their cars had been rummaged through the previous night, but nothing was stolen.

On Dec. 19, a Nelson Road resident reported a Joni Mitchell CD had been stolen from his unlocked, driveway-parked car during the overnight period.

On Dec. 20, a River Road woman reported that on Dec. 13, someone entered her unlocked, parked car and stole her Apple laptop computer.

Stolen packages
A Carthage Road resident reported someone stole five packages from his front doorstep approximately 30 minutes before he called police Dec. 14. According to the resident, the packages had been placed there for UPS return pickup earlier that day. The suspect was described by the resident as a middle-aged white woman with short blonde hair, driving a Honda Civic.

Identity theft
On Dec. 14, a Huntington Avenue resident reported someone opened a line of credit in her name at Key Bank. She informed Key Bank personnel to close the account because it was fraudulent. No financial losses were incurred.

Criminal mischief
On Dec. 14, a Hampton Road caller reported a Mercedes-Benz drove onto the Fox Meadow School field, on Brewster Road, turned off its headlights and intentionally drove around the field several times, cutting deep cervices into the field’s surfaces and damaging the grass. Police contacted the on-call custodian, who said he would notify his supervisor for proper follow-up action.

Harassment
A Paddington Road resident reported receiving harassing calls at home Dec. 17. The resident said the calls have been occurring with frequency over the past few weeks, and the calls originate from an unknown person. The caller asks for people who do not live at the residence, and the resident and her husband have asked the caller to stop calling. Police also called him and reiterated the request.

Trespassing
A Boulevard resident reported that her neighbor informed her that he saw a man walk up to her house, look inside her kitchen window and leave the property on foot Dec. 20. The resident said she had been upstairs and could not provide a description of the man, other than he was a male, wearing dark clothing and possibly carrying a large tablet or an iPad. Police canvassed the area but did not find the person accused of trespassing.

Snow shoveling
A Brite Avenue woman reported a man was on her property, shoveling snow from her driveway without her permission and asking for money Dec. 17. The woman told police she hired another person to clean her driveway instead; so she refused to pay the man. There was an apparent language barrier. The slim, white man eventually left in a black car.

Snowballs
On Dec. 17, a Fairview Road woman called police to say that her sons had been playing in the snow on Fox Meadow School grounds that day when the mother of a younger boy got upset with some of the older boys at the park who had been throwing snowballs at each other. This mother called one of the older boy’s mothers and allegedly resolved the issue. Later, however, this mother came to the woman’s house to discuss the matter with her. The woman told police she did not feel comfortable with the other mother coming to her house to discuss a minor incident. She wanted to document the incident in case the other mother returns.

Ice
A caller reported seeing youths skating on the pond near the Scarsdale library on Olmstead Road and felt it was unsafe Dec. 19. Police went to the scene and did not see any youths on the ice. They did see, however, two youths sitting on a bench near the edge of the pond and cautioned them not to walk or skate on the frozen pond.

A caller reported people were ”ice fishing” on a frozen pond on Taunton Road Dec. 19. Police went to the scene and observed two individuals walking off the ice and entering a private house.

Fallen tree
While investigating a report of people possibly running outside a Lorraine Place house after midnight Dec. 19, police encountered no people but did note a tree fell on a nearby house. No one was injured, and the affected homeowner was aware of the fallen tree.

Asleep
A driver fell asleep at the wheel at the intersection of East Parkway and Christie Place at 5:15 a.m., Dec. 19. Police spoke with the driver who said he was on his way home but must have fallen asleep because he was so tired. He refused medical attention. At the suggestion of police, the driver agreed to park his car and take a taxi home. He said he would come back to pick up the car later.

Assistance
On Dec. 15, White Plains police notified Scarsdale police about a missing White Plains woman who was previously discovered in Scarsdale the last time she was reported missing. Scarsdale police canvassed the Village but were soon informed that the woman had been located at a store in White Plains.

Police checked a Sheldrake Road house at 1:30 a.m., after the homeowner’s son thought he heard someone on the deck of the house Dec. 16. Everything was found to be secure.

Cars and roadways
A car parked on Lincoln Road in violation of posted parking restrictions belonged to a resident who said she was “shuffling cars in her driveway and temporarily parked her car across the street” Dec. 14. She told police she would move the car immediately.

A Roosevelt Place caller reported a white Mercedes-Benz that had been parked in front of her house “slowly rolled down the hill without putting its lights on” Dec. 14. She thought this was suspicious and called police. Patrol checked the area for the car but did not find it.

Police performed traffic control while department of public works personnel picked up leaves on the street Dec. 15.

A 52-year-old female driver, from Scarsdale, rear-ended a police car at Fenimore Road and Oak Lane Dec. 15. No injuries were reported.

Police helped a pedestrian safely move onto the sidewalk while walking o Weaver Street Dec. 15.

New Rochelle police were addressing a car parked on Weaver Street Dec. 16. Scarsdale police assisted.

Police provided a courtesy transport for a pedestrian who was out on Post Road and Boulevard and needed to go to the Golden Horseshoe shopping center at 8:30 p.m., Dec. 16.

Police stood by for Con Edison at the site of a fallen tree resting on electrical wires on Carstensen Road Dec. 17. In the meantime, police closed the road with caution tape.

A caller reported a barricade on Spencer Place came loose and was causing a possible hazard Dec. 17. Police placed caution tape around the barricade until it could be addressed.

A man witnessed a black Toyota Land Cruiser strike a parked GMC on East Parkway and then drive away and park in a spot further away from where the accident occurred Dec. 18. Police came to the scene and saw the GMC and Toyota parked in the described locations. The driver of the Toyota said she thought she might have hit the GMC with her side mirror. However, police did not observe any damage on the mirror or any damage caused by a mirror strike to the GMC. The GMC driver returned to his car while police were on scene and took note of new damage to his bumper. This damage was consistent with two witnesses’ accounts of the accident involving the Toyota. Police informed both drivers and are following up.

A Wheelock Road resident saw a car slowing driving back and forth on the street and thought it was suspicious Dec. 19. Police investigated the matter and discovered the driver of the car was a food delivery person looking for an address.

Animals
A caller reported seeing a large white dog at the intersection of Cambridge and Oxford roads Dec. 14. The dog appeared to have a collar. Police drove to the area to look for the dog, but it was no longer there.

On Dec. 15, a caller reported hearing a dog barking and crying for approximately two hours in the vicinity of Webster Road. The caller said she was not bothered by the noise, but she was afraid the dog might be in distress and asked police to check the animal’s welfare. Police went to the area and did not hear any dogs barking or crying. When patrol rang the doorbell of the house where the suspected dog was located, no one answered, but police heard numerous dogs barking inside the house.

A caller reported a “loose and aggressive” Pit bull on Meadow Road Dec. 18. Police went to the scene and did not find any loose dogs. The caller said she was certain the dog had belonged to a neighbor. She asked police to give her phone number to the alleged owner of the dog.

Lost and found
A Boulevard woman reported losing her company cell phone somewhere inside her house Dec. 18.

A Spier Road resident, who did not speak English, used a translator to tell police he found a cell phone in Flushing, Queens, on Dec. 20. Police advised the resident to take the cell phone to the local police department in Flushing.

Firefighters
On Dec. 16, firefighters were dispatched to a Kent Road house because of de-icing wires burning on the roof. The homeowner had already extinguished the fire when firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters noted the fire had also damaged a small area of the house’s siding and gutter. Firefighters disconnected the faulty wiring at the circuit panel and from an outside plug. They advised the resident to contact an electrician.

Water was leaking outside an Elm Road house Dec. 17. Firefighters shut the water supply at a valve and advised the homeowner to call a plumber.

Smoke from a curling iron in a Heathcote Road house caused a fire alarm to sound Dec. 17.

A Hamilton Road homeowner removed a charred space heater from his home after detecting burning inside the casing Dec. 18. Firefighters further extinguished the space heater, which was outside at that point. They advised the homeowner to discontinue use of the device.

On Dec. 19, an Autenreith Road house was showing elevated levels of carbon monoxide due to a car running inside a garage. Firefighters ventilated the garage and house and advised the resident to not run a car inside a closed or partially closed structure, such as a garage. While responding to this car, public safety personnel took Covid-19 precautions, due to the fact that the resident said her daughter was quarantining due to reported virus exposure.
On Dec. 19, cleaning agents used in Brite Avenue house were causing false-positive gas detection readings inside the house.

On Dec. 19, a boiler that was low on fuel at Heathcote School sounded a warning alarm. Firefighters examined the scene and requested that a custodian respond to perform proper maintenance and address the matter.

A Scarsdale High School custodian got stuck inside an elevator in the science wing of the building Dec. 19. Firefighters opened the doors to the elevator and released the custodian. The elevator was placed out of service.

Fireplace smoke activated a smoke alarm in a Greendale Road house Dec. 19. Firefighters checked the flue to make sure the fireplace was venting properly.

On Dec. 20, firefighters responded to Scarsdale Synagogue on Ogden Road because of a reported gas odor coming from a Con Edison excavation site. Firefighters stood by for Con Edison.

DWI: Responding to a report of a blue 2020 BMW idling at the intersection of Coralyn Road and Reynal Crossing with the driver apparently sleeping at the wheel around 10 p.m., Dec. 3, police checked on the driver and discovered a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. His eyes were also red and glassy, and his speech was slurred. When asked if he had been drinking, the driver – Patrick McHugh, 57, of Yonkers, said he had consumed two beers in White Plains. Police asked McHugh to perform a field sobriety test, and he failed it. At that time, he was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. At headquarters, a Datamaster test revealed McHugh’s blood alcohol level was above the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle. His arrest was processed on the following charges: driving while intoxicated (first offense), aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol level of .18 or more with no priors, and a stopping/standing/parking violation. McHugh was released on his own recognizance and issued an appearance ticket for Scarsdale Village Justice Court.

Stolen
On Nov. 30, a Garden Road resident reported a Chase bank check had been stolen from her last month while it was in postal service transit. She said she last saw the check when she placed it in her mailbox on Oct. 15, for postal service pickup. On Oct. 24, she learned the check had been deposited on Oct. 21. However, since the intended recipient never received the check, it was revealed that an unknown person who stole the check had deposited it. She wanted police to document the incident while she followed up with her bank.

On Dec. 1, a Haverford Road resident reported a package containing $250 worth of wine had been stolen from the front of her house sometime in the past. Investigation revealed that FedEx had delivered the package at approximately 12:45 p.m., Nov. 28. At approximately 5:40 p.m., that day, a white SUV was observed stopping in front of the house. A woman exited the car and walked halfway up the resident’s driveway before returning to the SUV. The SUV drove away and returned approximately two minutes later, facing the opposite direction on the road. The woman walked up the driveway to the front door, stole the package and left in the SUV. The woman was described as wearing black pants with a pink Nike emblem on the side, a hoodie sweater and a face covering. Police are following up.

Identity theft
On Dec. 1, a Ridgecrest North woman reported someone used her Social Security number and maiden name to apply for fraudulent Social Security benefits. She was advised to contact the NYS Department of Labor.

On Dec. 3, a Fox Meadow Road man reported someone used his Social Security number and name to apply for fraudulent Social Security benefits. While checking his credit report, the man detected someone with a similar name and a Westchester County address also showing up on his report, as well as several fraudulent attempts to open credit accounts in his name.

Criminal mischief
On Dec. 2, a Chesterfield Road resident reported the rear windshield of his 2019 Honda had been smashed while the car was parked on the street in front of his house. Nothing was missing from the car, and there was no clear motive for the smashed widow. Police cleaned up broken glass from the roadway.

Silverware
On Dec. 1, at 5:30 a.m., a Norma Place man reported someone might have stolen silverware from inside his house. He said he heard a “jingling” sound coming from his neighbor’s property while he was outside smoking a cigarette around 5:15 a.m., while his rear door was also unlocked. After hearing the noise, the caller checked his house and looked in a small drawer in the dining room, where he thought the silverware had been placed. It was not there, and he called police. Police arrived on scene and interviewed the man and his wife. The wife was not certain that their silverware had been placed in that dining room drawer. After searching the house, the wife found the silverware in the kitchen. No theft had occurred.

Generator
On Nov. 30, a Cushman Road contractor reported a generator owned by his company was damaged at a Cushman Road construction site. In particular, the contractor alleged the wires had been cut. After some investigation, it was determined that the wires had been disconnected, not cut. The generator had been the source of a Village code violation the preceding week, and firefighters had been called to the scene to disconnect the device after hours, after numerous complaints and multiple summonses, so it would comply with Village code.

Suspicious
A Wheelock Road woman reported an elderly, heavyset, white man was taking pictures of her house Nov. 30. He was last seen driving a small car. Police canvassed the area but did not find the man.

Wrong number
A woman from Australia called police to report she had been assaulted Nov. 30. She did not realize she had dialed internationally, and once this became clear, she did not request any help from Scarsdale police.

Leaves
A Reimer Road resident reported he saw a “dump truck” empty out a large pile of leaves on the street in front of his house Dec. 2. Police asked the highway department to remove them. No summons was issued to residents on the street because an unknown landscaper reportedly placed the leaves there.

On Dec. 4, a Chesterfield Road resident reported a neighbor’s landscaper was blowing leaves onto his property. Police facilitated a conversation between the neighbors, and it was decided that the neighbor responsible for the leaves would speak to his landscaper to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Accident and more
A Fenimore Road homeowner reported a car “crashed into his front yard” around 6:30 p.m., Dec. 6. The driver – a 33-year-old New York resident – said he attempted to avoid an oncoming car, swerved and ended up on the Fenimore Road yard. A license check showed the license had been suspended seven different times on two separate dates. Also, the car’s registration sticker showed that the car’s license plate was improper, as it actually corresponded to a different car – not the driver’s 2008 Saturn. Police impounded the car and issued the driver summonses for unlicensed driving, an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to use a designated lane, operation of a motor vehicle with improper plates and operation of a motor vehicle without insurance.

Cars and roadways
The highway department was contacted about a leaning tree near the Mamaroneck Road underpass Nov. 30.

Verizon was notified about a low-hanging wire on Hamilton Road Dec. 1.

A driver reported a pothole on Weaver Street caused a flat tire in his car Dec. 1.

Police informed the highway department for repair.

Police helped a Black Birch Lane woman remove a thin, fallen telephone wire from her driveway Dec. 1. Verizon was notified.

A Carthage Road woman was having difficulty backing out of her driveway due to a car parked across the street Dec. 2. Police contacted the owner of the parked car and asked for it to be moved as a courtesy.

A motorist reportedly knocked down a street sign on the Bronx River Parkway exit ramp and Ogden Road after midnight Dec. 3. Police notified Westchester County police and checked the area. The motorist was not found.

Con Edison and Verizon were notified about fallen wires on Heathcote Road Dec. 3.

A food delivery truck dislodged a low-hanging Verizon wire on Scarsdale Avenue Dec. 3. Verizon was notified.

The building department was made aware of vines growing up a crooked tree and spreading to wires on Richbell Road Dec. 4.

Police reported a dislodged manhole cover to Verizon Dec. 4. The cover was located somewhere in the Village.

Police received reports of a red Jeep Cherokee involved in a BB gun incident with another car on the Bronx River Parkway Dec. 4. Police began canvassing the area for the car and noticed a red Jeep Cherokee backing out of a Griffen Road driveway. They followed the driver at a safe distance as the Cherokee entered Quaker Ridge Road in New Rochelle. New Rochelle police conducted a traffic stop, and it was determined the car was not involved in the incident and the offending vehicle was not found.

The highway department was informed about a pothole at Weaver Street, near Crossway, Dec. 5. Later that day, a caller reported the large pothole had ”caused several vehicles a flat tire.” Police placed four traffic cones around the pothole to prevent drivers from encountering it. The State Department of Transportation was notified, and they said they would send a crew to fix it.

Police interviewed a man sitting in a parked car behind a Palmer Avenue establishment after midnight Dec. 6. The man said he had an argument with his wife and was in the process of planning to go to a hotel.

A caller reported an aggressive driver on Mamaroneck Road Dec. 5. Police canvassed the area but did not find the driver’s car for follow-up.

Dog
Early in the morning of Dec. 7, a Benedict Road woman reported her dog named “Lucky,” a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, had escaped her yard. She was out looking for him but asked a patrol car to assist her in canvassing the streets. Approximately 10 minutes later, the dog reportedly returned home and was reunited with the woman.

Lost and found
A passerby found a wallet at Scarsdale train station and gave it to police Dec. 4. Police contacted the owner, checked his identity and returned the wallet. Nothing was reported missing.

On Dec. 4, a Cambridge Road woman reported she lost a pair of white gold, diamond stud earrings while moving. She needed to report the loss for insurance purposes. The earrings were valued at $10,450.

A Brite Avenue resident reported losing a credit card at a local business Dec. 4. He realized he had left the card there the next day and went back to retrieve it, but it was reportedly not there. The card has been cancelled.

Village code
Responding to a noise complaint about loud music on Carthage Road Dec. 4, police found about 10 kids playing music outside and talking. They were wearing masks and social distancing, but police broke up the gathering because of the noise complaint.
A caller reported a large group of adults playing baseball on an Edgewood School field and using profanity Dec. 6. Police investigated the call and observed approximately 20 adults on the field. Police advised them that school fields were closed and that they needed to leave. Police did not hear any foul words but advised the adults to please refrain from using vulgar language.

Firefighters
On Nov. 30, firefighters assisted at a two-car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway. One occupant was taken to the hospital, and both cars were towed from the scene.

On Nov. 30, firefighters were dispatched to a Springdale Road house because of a reported gas leak. There, firefighters found a slight leak at the kitchen stovetop. Con Edison confirmed firefighters’ findings and shut gas to the house because the stove valve could not be isolated.

Firefighters assisted Hartsdale firefighters with a structure fire in their jurisdiction Dec. 1.

A mini school bus was rear-ended by a black sedan, which had been rear-ended by a Westchester County Department of Public Works truck on the Bronx River Parkway Dec. 3. The bus had no passengers and sustained only minor damage. The driver was not injured either. The sedan sustained major damage to the front and rear. It was carrying the driver and one passenger. The DPW truck had minor damage to the front bumper only. The pile-up collision occurred in the right lane, and firefighters used rigs to block this lane from traffic. The passenger of the sedan was treated on scene by Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps and refused further medical attention. Firefighters disconnected the sedan’s battery and stood by until the sedan was towed from the scene.

A two-year-old child accidentally locked himself in a master bathroom in an Oak Lane house Dec. 5. Firefighters were able to open the door to release the child unharmed.

Firefighters confirmed that kitchen smoke set off a fire alarm in a Spencer Place establishment Dec. 5. They examined the established and confirmed its safety.
