Stolen car: On May 11, a Hampton Road resident reported his $83,000 2022 Mercedes was stolen from his driveway overnight. Later that day, the car was located in Pennsylvania with temporary tag plates reported as stolen out of New Jersey.

On May 15, around 3:30 a.m., a gray BMW passed a police cruiser on Post Road and police received hit on the license plate reader that the plates had been reported as stolen out of New Jersey. Police lost the car in a pursuit and broadcast a notification for other units to canvas the area for the car. Near Fenimore Road, police noticed the BMW speeding toward Greenburgh with another car close behind, also speeding. For safety reasons, the pursuit was called off. Greenburgh police were notified. Later, a license plate reader showed the cars on the Hutchinson River Parkway heading toward New York City. The other car’s license plate revealed the other car was registered to a former resident of Scarsdale who had family members in the Village. It was a black BMW. A check with the family members revealed the car had just been stolen from their driveway.

Car break-in attempt
On May 15, a Greenacres Ave. resident reported that a gray or green sedan pulled into his driveway, and a person exited and attempted to open the doors of a car parked in his driveway.

Identity theft
On May 9, a Dell Road woman reported her credit card was used at Walmart.com overnight, in the amount of $200. The transaction was flagged as fraudulent and cancelled by Walmart’s fraud detection system.

On May 12, a Village resident reported someone had fraudulently opened a Home Depot credit card in his name.

Check fraud
On May 11, an Overlook Road resident reported that someone attempted to pass a fraudulent check written against her account.

Suspicious
A Herkimer Road caller reported seeing a person in a dark colored sedan stop outside of a mailbox on the street and open it May 12. Nothing was observed being taken from the mailbox.

On May 15, a woman called Greenburgh police stating she was being followed by a stalker, and she was afraid her “phone would die.” Greenburgh police provided Scarsdale police with a possible address. Scarsdale police went to the location but could not find the woman or a possible stalker.

Civil matter
On May 12, a Continental Road woman said her babysitter was refusing to leave the house even though her employment had been terminated. The babysitter told police she could only vacate the residence on June 1. Police advised the parties to consult with their attorneys for this civil matter.

Cars and roadways
On May 9, a hit-and-run car accident caused property damage to the high school.

Summonses were issued to the owners of cars parked on grass at Winston Field May 9.

An abandoned duffel bag was left at Spencer Place and East Parkway May 10. Its owner picked it up while police were on scene.

Police helped the owner of a Ford Taurus with a mechanical problem at Post and Fenimore roads May 10.

On May 10, police picked up a fallen branch from Saxon Woods Road.

A caller reported observing an aggressive driver in a white car on Post Road May 11.

On May 11, police issued summonses to the owner of a car that was missing a front license plate and that also had an unsafe tire.

Patrol placed traffic cones in two potholes on Weaver Street and notified the highway department about the road damage.

Police notified the highway department about a broken stairway railing on Wayside Lane May 12.

On May 14, police helped a driver move his car to a safe location after the car suffered a blown tire.

On May 15, police helped a driver get to a gas station for assistance.

A car was parked on the grass on Fox Meadow Road May 15. Police contacted the owner of the car to correct the condition.

On May 15, police issued a summons to the White Plains driver of a car who was operating the car with a suspended registration and without insurance. The plates were removed, and the car was impounded.

Four car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.

Animals
On May 9, police at Post and Huntington roads seized a loose, black, hound-mix dog. Police took the dog to headquarters, where its owner, who had called dispatch looking for his loose dog, retrieved it. A summons was issued for having a dog at large.

On May 10, police notified the highway department about a dead raccoon carcass at the corner of Post Road and Wayside Lane.

The highway department was notified about a backed-up sewer line on Forest Lane May 10.

On May 11, police notified the highway department about a dead rodent on the Wayside Lane tennis courts.

A Brambach Road caller reported a possibly injured rabbit was in his yard May 12, Police observed a rabbit lying on his side and provided the caller with the contact information of several local trappers.

On May 13, a coyote was reported near Garden and Mamaroneck roads.

A rabbit got stuck in a soccer net in a Berwick Road yard May 13. Police helped to release the rabbit.

Village code
On May 10, a Post Road resident advised that a neighbor was screaming from her window for an unknown reason. Police checked on the neighbor, who was not screaming at the time. She said she was fine and did not request any assistance.

After neighbors complained of noise, police advised a Secor Road party manager of the complaint, despite not finding the noise to be unreasonable, May 14.

Three males accused of making noise on Huntington Avenue said they were waiting for an Uber and would be leaving soon May 15.

Lost and found
On May 11, a passerby found a debit card on Depot Place and gave it to police. Patrol notified Visa that the card had been found, and a Visa representative said she would contact the cardholder to relay the information.

The owner of a lost wallet picked it up at headquarters May 14.

On May 15, police located the owner of an iPhone found on East Parkway and returned the phone to the owner.

On May 15, a Palmer Avenue woman reported finding a ladder in her yard. She said she did not remember putting it there and had no idea how it got there. Due to the amount of leaves and yard debris covering the ladder, police advised it might have been there for a long time. Police told her she could dispose of the ladder.

Firefighters
On May 11, firefighters assisted with a two-car accident at Post and Drake roads. The accident involved a dump truck and a sedan. The sedan had damage to the front end and was underneath the rear tow hitch of the dump truck. The sedan’s driver and passenger were evaluated by Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps and taken to the hospital.

On May 12, firefighters used a lock tool through an open car window to help release a dog that accidentally got locked inside a car on Greenacres Avenue.

On May 12, firefighters assisted at a car accident on Crossway.

On May 13, firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a gas leak on River Road.

An overheated motor in an air handler in a Secor Road house caused a burning odor May 14. Firefighters shut down the unit and advised the homeowner to call a technician for repair.

Car thefts and recovery: On May 5, police responded to a report of a green Subaru left on Ogden Road, with its windows open and no plates. A check of the VIN number revealed that the car had been stolen out of another location in New Jersey. Police contacted authorities in New Jersey and relocated the car to the impound lot.

On May 5, a Hampton Road resident reported her white 2008 Lexus was stolen from her driveway. It had been parked there unlocked, and the key might have been left inside.

A Scarsdale Avenue employee reported a 2021 Chevy was stolen from a lot backing Scarsdale Avenue. The owner of the car said the key had been missing since yesterday.

Car break-ins
A Palmer Avenue resident reported a larceny attempt, in which a man exited the passenger door of a light-colored sedan at 5:30 a.m., May 5, and tried to open the doors of three cars parked in the driveway. One car – a white Lexus – was unlocked. The car was entered, but nothing was stolen. The man was described as a wearing a hoodie, dark pants with stripes and a mask. Police recovered doorbell camera video surveillance that documented the suspect committing larceny activity.

Identity theft
On May 3, a Brite Avenue resident reported that her credit card was used to make fraudulent purchases through Wayfair. The order was cancelled, and she did not suffer a financial loss.

A Ridgecrest West woman reported that she had previously paid a water bill by check. On May 5, she realized the $196.76 check had been intercepted, stolen and cashed.

Scam
An Overhill Road business owner received a fraudulent email that was allegedly from a doctor’s office with which she does business. The email requested payment. The business owner contacted the doctor’s office for more information and learned that the email had not been sent from them. No financial loss incurred

Cars and roadways
Con Edison was advised about a gas odor on Garth Road May 3.

Police issued a parking summons to the owner of a SUV, parked with flashers on, in a no-parking zone at Farley and Post roads May 3.

Police found a car parked, with scofflaw status, on Christie Place May 3. Due to its location, the car could not be towed without damaging another car. Therefore, police issued appropriate summonses.

A Village resident reported receiving toll bills for a car she sold in July of 2021. A registration check showed that she had in fact surrendered the plates to the vehicle in July 2021, and she had a receipt that documented this from the DMV. Police advised her to contact the agency requesting payment and provide copies of the documentation.

On May 3, police called a tow for a disabled car at Post and Mamaroneck roads.

Police stood by a car with two flat tires at Mamaroneck and Colonial roads until a tow service arrived to provide assistance.

A driver of a black sedan accidentally drove onto an 18-inch stone wall on Dobbs Terrace and got stuck May 5. The driver did not appear injured.

Police arrived and spoke with the driver who said he lost control of his car and mounted the wall. Police called a tow truck to remove the car from the wall.

Police called a tow for a truck that became disabled at Hutchinson Avenue and Meadow Road May 5. Firefighters cleaned up spilled fuel from the roadway, related to the disabled truck. Before the tow arrived, the driver was able to restart the truck and was able to leave the area.

While putting a dislodged manhole cover back in place at Reynal Crossing and Secor Road May 6, police noticed water bubbling up from the ground. Police notified the water department.

Police discarded a scrap section of disconnected utility wire that was entangled in an Eastwoods Road tree May 7.

Police helped a driver change a flat tire on Bypass May 8.

Police asked the driver of a parked car to move the car because it was blocking a Lee Road driveway May 8.

Suspicious
A worker at a Kingston Road house said an unknown white man wearing glasses and a dark gray cap pulled up the driveway in a white Trail Blazer May 3. When the man saw the worker, he seemed “surprised” and took off in his truck. Police canvassed the area but did not find the man.

A Palmer Avenue woman reported concerns about a wooden stake with a red ribbon tied to it that she suddenly found had been placed in her yard May 4. Police contacted the building and engineering departments to see if they could be of assistance or if they knew what the stake might indicate.

A Lockwood Road woman reported that she received a small unmarked envelope on her doorstep May 6. After opening the envelope, she discovered, to her dismay, a used feminine hygiene pad. She does not know who could have left such an item there. Police documented the incident and took the item to the sanitation yard for disposal.

Dirt
A property manager for a Heathcote Road property reported that someone dumped dirt and rocks there without permission May 3. He asked for a report for documentation purposes only.

On May 8, a Palmer Avenue woman reported that a neighbor was digging up dirt from her property. Police arrived and ascertained that there was confusion over the property line. Police advised the neighbors to have their properties surveyed.

Animals
The highway department was notified about a dead rabbit on Ogden Road May 2.
A loose dog was reported on Saxon Woods Road May 3. A resident identified the dog as belonging to a neighbor. The dog was already gone when police arrived.
A coyote was reported in the area of Carthage Lane May 6.
A fox was reported in the area of Fox Meadow Road May 6.

Lost and found
A woman tracked her lost ear pods to a location in Scarsdale on Ridgecrest East, after losing them in New Rochelle. Police contacted the homeowner who advised that she, in fact, found a pair of ear pods in New Rochelle. She returned them to headquarters, and police gave them back to the owner.

Village code
On May 6, police asked a Secor Road party manager to lower the volume of music after neighbors complained.

Police advised a Berkeley Road resident of a noise complaint May 6. The resident said she would move her outdoor gathering inside and lower music volume.

Police dispersed a large group of high-school aged from a Mamaroneck Road location after dark May 6.

Firefighters
On May 2, a small fire was reportedly burning at the base of a tree located in the rear parking lot of a Heathcote Road church. Firefighters and police observed smoke emanating from a small cavity at the tree’s base. No flames were visible at the tree’s exterior, indicating that the fire was confined to the inside of the tree. Firefighters determined the source of the fire was electrical in nature, as a conduit ran beneath the tree. Firefighters used approximately 500 gallons of water to attempt to extinguish the fire. However, this was unsuccessful. Con Edison arrived and asked for the church’s management to call a tree company to cut down the tree so that the electrical fire could be properly addressed.

On May 2, a small grease fire in a stove in a Rectory Lane kitchen self-extinguished before firefighters arrived.

On May 3, firefighters helped police check the welfare of a Lebanon Road resident. Everything was found to be in good order.

On May 4, a reported burning odor inside an Old Lyme Road house was determined to be electrical in nature.

On May 4, firefighters assisted Greenville Fire Department with a structure fire. One firefighter was injured when a piece of ceiling fell, hitting him in the back and neck. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

On May 5, firefighters assisted with two unrelated car accidents on the Hutchinson River Parkway and the Bronx River Parkway.

On May 8, firefighters helped a Crane Road resident solve the problem of a leaking hot water heater. They advised the resident to contact a service technician.

Stolen: A caller reported a man from a “work truck” was trying to steal bins of recyclables on Black Birch Lane April 26. The caller said she observed the man place her bin into his truck. She confronted him, and he emptied the bin and returned it. However, he kept the recyclables.

Fire in Hartsdale

On Wednesday May 4, 2022 at approximately 10:10 AM Greenburgh Police and EMS units responded to 260 S. Healy Ave for a residential structure fire. The Hartsdale, Greenville, Scarsdale and Fairview Fire Departments also responded. The responding agencies arrived to find a fully engulfed residential structure fire. The fire departments extinguished the fire but it unfortunately claimed the life of one of the residents. Greenburgh Police Department Detectives were notified and responded to investigate. The fire is at this time believed to be accidental in nature. The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team will be reviewing the incident. 

Car break-ins

On April 28, a Hathaway Road woman reported someone had open her parked car and rummaged through it. Nothing was stolen from the car.

Identity theft

On April 25, a caller reported that his Social Security number was attached to an address in New Jersey. Police advised him to follow up with the credit reporting agencies.

In April 25, a Crane Road school employee reported that a fraudulent check was written against the school’s account. The check, for over $8,562.12, was not cashed due to insufficient funds in the account.

On May 1, a Walworth Avenue resident reported that personal information was revealed to a person posing as a Con Edison representative.

Help

An Edgewood man asked police to provide assistance in dealing with his intoxicated wife April 28. She declined medical assistance and only asked for transportation help to get to an urgent appointment. After police unsuccessfully tried to order a taxi, patrol provided a courtesy ride.

A woman dropped her keys through a grate at Garth and Freightway roads April 28. Police were able to retrieve them.

WaterA tree fell and closed a portion of the Bronx River Parkway north of Hartsdale on Tuesday afternoon May 3

An Ogden Road man reported flooding on the property line caused by a neighbor’s pump device April 28. Police spoke with the neighbor who said the pump was being used to drain accumulated water. The neighbor turned off the pump and apologized for the flooding. Police noted a dip in the ground at the property line, which exacerbated any flooding conditions. They advised both parties to consult with the building department.

Vehicle and traffic law arrest

On April 28, police arrested Roderick Valdes, 35, of Spring Valley, on charges of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver and an equipment violation. Police pulled over Valdes’s car, a 2006 Nissan, on Post Road because it did not have an adequate rear license plate lamp. When checking Valdes’s license, it became clear that the license had been suspended because of driving while ability impaired by alcohol on Feb. 14, 2019. Additionally, there were eight suspensions, for eight scoffs on four dates. Police then arrested Valdes. He was released on his own recognizance and ordered to appear in court on May 18.

Cars and roadways

Police helped a caller change a tire on a car at Ridgedale and Springdale roads April 25.

Police assisted a caller with a VIN verification April 26.

A wheel of a truck fell into a hole on Cooper Road and the truck got stuck April 26.

Police provided traffic control until a tow truck could arrive.

On April 26, a caller reported a man sleeping in his car while parked on the grass near Hutchinson River Parkway ramps and Mamaroneck Road. Police responded and spoke with the man. He advised he had pulled over to rest but said he would move the car to another location, such as a parking lot.

Two people talking inside a parked car at Tunstall and Madison roads agreed to move their car to a different location April 26.

Police notified Verizon about a fallen wire on Black Birch Lane April 27.

On April 29, a caller advised that a black Honda CRV sideswiped the caller’s car on Forest Lane and left the scene.

On May 1, police assisted a motorist who ran out of gas safely wait for replacement gasoline.

Police issued summonses to the owners of improperly parked cars on Potter Road May 1.

Two car accidents were reported in the Village this week.

Dogs

On April 29, a person reported that while walking by a Tompkins Road house, a leashed dog walked by, and the dog jumped on the person’s back. No injuries were reported.

On May 1, a Mohican Trail resident reported that a coyote was in her yard, trying to “get her dog.” The coyote was barking aggressively. The resident said she was banging pots and pans to scare off the coyote, and the coyote left.

Lost and found

On April 25, a caller reported losing a silver tote bag with a colorful wallet on Harwood Court. The last time she remembered seeing the bag was on the sear of her car parked on Harwood Court.

On April 27, a commuter reported losing her wallet at he Scarsdale train station. Later, she concluded the wallet had most likely been stolen.

A passerby found a debit card near the library and gave it to police April 27. Police contacted a credit card service number, and the representative who answered the phone said she would inform the cardholder of the wallet’s location.

A caller found a wallet, with an integrated phone, credit cards and cash, on the road at Hampton and Whig roads April 29.

The manager of Starbucks on East Parkway reported finding three bags – one containing cosmetic items, one containing clothing and one containing notebooks and a laptop – in front of the store April 30. After unsuccessfully trying to find the owner of the bags, police vouchered them for safekeeping at headquarters.

Village code

On April 28, police issued a summons to a landscaper for using a gas-powered leaf blower on Barry Road.

A Lee Road resident reported two men in their 20s were soliciting for solar panels on her street April 28. She did not know if they had a permit. Police caught up with the men and confirmed they had a permit.

Police advised the manager of Fenway Golf Club of a noise complaint April 30.

Firefighters

On April 26, firefighters were called to a Garden Road house to investigate an odor of rotten eggs. The house trap was found to be open, creating an accumulation of hydrogen sulfide. Firefighters ventilated the space and advised the homeowner to call a plumber to replace the trap cap.

A child got stuck in a swing at Colonial Park April 27. Firefighters were dispatched to free the child.

A two-year-old Ridgecrest North child was having difficulty breathing and was going in and out of consciousness April 27. Firefighters and SVAC provided assistance and took the child to Westchester Medical Center.

Firefighters provided assistance at the scene of a car accident at Hamilton and Richelieu roads April 29.

On April 30, firefighters helped a person locked out of her Greendale Road house get back inside.

Firefighters assisted a Christie Place resident with a microwave April 30.

Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a carbon monoxide alarm activation in a White Road house April 30. Firefighters ventilated the house and determined the boiler was malfunctioning. Natural gas was shut to the boiler, and firefighters advised that a plumber service the unit before it could be used again.

Burglary: On April 20, a glass break motion alarm alerted police to a burglary on Spencer Place. The owner of the business reported that $6,613 in miscellaneous medication and controlled substances were stolen, along with prescription pill bottles. The front glass door had been smashed open. Police are investigating.

Stolen car
On April 19, a Nelson Road resident reported that his $60,000 black 2019 Audi was stolen from his driveway. The car was unlocked, with the cars left inside.

Identity theft and fraud
On April 20, a Fayette Road woman reported she was scammed into allowing an unknown person have remote access to her computer because she thought she had been a victim of fraud. The remote access resulted in $50,000 being transferred out of her account. The woman’s bank is looking into the matter.

On April 21, a Berwick Road man reported that an attempt was made to steal his personal information and initiate fraudulent transactions. None of the attempts were successful, and no financial loss occurred.

On April 21, an Overhill Road resident reported she was directed to pay a fraudulent invoice, which she thought was legitimate, by email. The invoice was for $26,750. After paying the invoice, the resident realized the transaction was fraudulent and contacted her bank to stop the transaction from going through.

An investigator from Orange County, California, asked police to verify an online car purchase from a dealership in the investigator’s jurisdiction April 21. Scarsdale police confirmed that the stated purchaser did not, in fact, reside in Scarsdale, as stated.

On April 22, a Palmer Avenue woman reported she discovered an unknown home address and an unknown linked bank account listed on her credit report. She was advised by her bank to document her findings and notify the credit reporting agencies.

Irate customer
On April 21, an irate customer entered an East Parkway business and began yelling at employees about product pricing. The customer left the store and was gone before police arrived.

Employer/employee problem
On April 22, a Chase Road postal employee was refusing to leave the post office. Police contacted the postal police, and they advised the employee to leave. The employee said he would follow up with his union about ways to rectify the problems he was having with his supervisors.

Dispute
Two tall, white men with black jackets, and one with a bald head, were arguing inside a Garth Road restaurant April 22. Police canvassed the area for the men, but they had already left.

Help
A woman who was crying in a Palmer Avenue parking lot reported she had just received bad news and was taking a break from work to put herself together April 22.

A Walworth Avenue woman received an S.O.S. message from her husband’s cell phone April 23. She later learned that the S.O.S. message was sent out in error, and her husband was OK.

Police helped a pedestrian cross Weaver Street April 24.Enthusiastic gardeners picked up compost from the food scrap recycling program on Saturday April 24.

Civil matter
Police helped a landscaper and a homeowner mediate their differences and come to an agreement for payment for services April 23.

Cars and roadways
Following a rear end collision at the intersection of Chase and Popham roads April 18, police issued a summons for a suspended registration to the driver of one of the cars.

On April 18, police asked a Brambach Road resident to move a white van parked in the area.

On April 18 and 19, police moved fallen branches from Mamaroneck and Post roads and Palmer Avenue and Innes Road.

Police taped off a gravel lot that was flooding on Post Road April 19.

Police notified Con Edison and Verizon about fallen wires on Colonial Road April 19.

A wire fell on a car parked on Madison Road April 19. Police called Verizon.

On April 19, Westchester County police reported a possible domestic incident inside a car on the Bronx River Parkway. WCP then reported a female might have exited the car and was hiding behind a building on Walworth Avenue.

Police reported a water leak on Innes and Heathcote roads to the water department April 19.
A contractor was pumping water from a flooded Nelson Road foundation into the roadway April 20. Police advised the contractor that emptying water into the roadway was not allowed.

Errant traffic cones littering the roadway were causing a traffic nuisance April 21. Police removed the cones from the roadway.

A Bee-line bus stalled on Post Road April 22. A mechanic was en route to repair it.

Police re-secured a loose manhole cover on Dobbs Terrace April 22. The cover broke in half after a driver drove over it April 23. It damaged the driver’s rear wheel. On April 24, the new manhole cover was reported to be loose. Police informed the highway department.

Police moved a “boulder” out of the roadway at Post and Mamaroneck roads April 22.

On April 24, police twice issued three summonses to the owners of parked cars blocking driveways on Potter Road.

After receiving a call about an erratic driver near the White Plains border, police observed the car and began following it April 24. Its driver was driving erratically. Police initiated a traffic stop in the interest of public safety, and White Plains police took over the scene after they arrived.

Village code
A woman was observed walking her dog off leash toward a wooded area near Kent and Fox Meadow roads April 21. Police advised her of Village code, and the woman put her dog back on leash.

Two men soliciting for signatures for their basketball team in an East Parkway parking lot were advised that they were not welcome to solicit signatures on that private property April 23. The men moved to the front area of the business and remained on the sidewalk while they asked for signatures.

After a neighbor complained about noise, police asked a Boulevard resident to lower the volume of music playing April 23.

A Secor Road manager lowered the volume of music after neighbors complained April 23.

Lost and found
On April 22, a passerby found a lost wallet on Post Road. Police contacted the owner and facilitated the wallet’s return.
A passerby found a purse at the Scarsdale High School carnival April 22. Police contacted the owner’s father using information found inside the purse. The father picked up the purse from headquarters on behalf of his daughter.

A Brite Avenue resident found an iPhone outside his front door April 24. The resident said he had video showing an older man placing the phone there. Police vouchered the phone for safekeeping.

Animals
A Cornell Road man reported a rabbit was stuck in his fence and was unable to free itself April 22. Police went to the scene but did not see any rabbits in the fence.

Firefighters
On April 19, firefighters shut down a faulty heating unit in a Ridgecrest West house because it was not venting properly, creating elevated carbon monoxide levels and emitting a gas odor outside the vent. Con Edison was called.

On April 21, firefighters called Con Edison to address a gas leak near a Sherbrook Road dryer.

On April 23, firefighters used a wrench to shut off a propane tank attached to an outdoor grill.

On April 24, an Axtell Drive resident reported that he took a shower and a drain in his sink backed up and overflowed. Firefighters investigated the situation and found a sewage blockage in the street. Police notified the Department of Public Works and advised the resident to not use the drains until the problem could be resolved.
