A programming error prevented thousands of ballots from being scanned across Westchester County on Election Day. Nevertheless, the Westchester County Board of Elections is posting unofficial results, including early voting totals. As of Wednesday morning, November 4, approximately 150,000 votes had been counted, with Democratic candidates leading by substantial margins. See the individual race results below or click here.
In the hotly contested race for Congressional District 17, which includes portions of Westchester and Rockland Counties, Congressman Mike Lawler conceded to Cait Conley on Tuesday night, even before the Westchester portion of the vote had been counted. Many Scarsdale Democrats spent days canvassing CD 17 in an effort to flip that seat.
Commenting on the blue wave, Congressman George Latimer, who was elected to a second term representing Congressional District 16, which includes Scarsdale, had this to say:
“Last night’s Democratic sweep - from South Carolina to Scarsdale - was a statement of discontent with Donald Trump’s policies and leadership. We now have an opportunity to put things right - to properly address affordability and healthcare, education and environment and so much more. Scarsdale has every reason to expect to see Democratic leadership focus on accomplishing positive outcomes in DC - and that will be my focus for these next two years”
The early results suggest that Westchester followed the national trend, with Democratic candidates making strong showings across the country. Many local residents supported candidates around the nation.
Michele and Stuart Silberberg traveled to Austin, Texas, where their daughter, Caroline Silberberg, worked on Gina Hinojosa’s campaign for Governor of Texas. This was another closely watched race, as Texas had not elected a Democratic governor in 35 years.
Here’s what Michele Silberberg shared about Hinojosa's historic election in Texas:
“We spent Monday night at a Democratic rally in Austin for James Talarico, Gina Hinojosa and Sarah Eckhardt. The energy was great, with an enthusiastic, largely young crowd. On Tuesday, I spent several hours canvassing for the Democrats. People were welcoming and supportive, and many had already voted early. There was a real sense that people were tired of Abbott and ready for something new.
Caroline Silberberg (SHS '21) celebrates Hinojosa's victory. On election night, Stuart and I attended Gina’s watch party at Assembly Hall, and it felt like a celebration from the moment we walked in. The TVs were blaring, a performer was singing on stage, and the energy was electric. When James Talarico was projected as the winner in the U.S. Senate race, the crowd went wild. But the biggest moment came when word spread that Greg Abbott had called Gina to concede. The room erupted in cheers, screams and tears. Our daughter Caroline and her colleagues were absolutely beside themselves with excitement.
It was an incredible night and an amazing experience to witness firsthand. The excitement, emotion and sense of possibility in that room made it a night we will always remember."
Meanwhile, the Westchester County Board of Elections says it will begin counting all the remaining ballots at 11 a.m. today. The ballots have been transported to the Westchester County Board of Elections in Ardsley for counting.
Here are the unofficial results posted on the Board of Elections website as of Wednesday morning. Democratic candidates are leading in every race:
