Despite a chilly fall day, the Scarsdale Fire Department welcomed community members to its annual Fire Fair on Saturday, October 17, at Fire Station 3, located at 56 Crossway. The free, family-friendly event brought residents together from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for an engaging day of fire safety education, hands-on activities, and an opportunity to meet the firefighters who help keep Scarsdale safe.
This year’s Fire Fair highlighted the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) 2026 Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” The campaign focuses on educating the public about the safe use, charging, storage, and disposal of lithium-ion batteries, which are commonly found in smartphones, laptops, electric bicycles, scooters, and many other household devices.
Through interactive demonstrations and educational activities, attendees had the opportunity to learn how everyday safety practices can help reduce the risk of home fires. The event emphasized the importance of recognizing potential hazards, kitchen safety, using batteries and chargers properly, and understanding the precautions that can help protect families and their homes.
The Fire Fair also provided an opportunity for children and adults to connect with Scarsdale’s volunteer and career firefighters, learn more about the department’s equipment and operations, and gain a greater appreciation for the training and teamwork involved in protecting the community.
Events such as the annual Fire Fair reflect the department’s ongoing commitment to fire prevention and public education. By bringing important safety messages directly to residents in an approachable, interactive setting, the Scarsdale Fire Department aims to ensure that community members have the knowledge and confidence to make safer choices at home.
The department extends its sincere thanks to the firefighters, volunteers, Fire Explorers, and community supporters who contributed their time and effort to make this year’s event possible. Their dedication helped turn a chilly fall Saturday into a valuable opportunity for learning, community connection, and fire safety awareness.
The Scarsdale Fire Department reminds residents that fire prevention starts at home—and that a few simple precautions can make a meaningful difference in keeping our community safe.
