The Center@862 Hosts Open House

On Sunday, October 21st, The Center@862 (also known as the Scarsdale Teen Center) welcomed the Scarsdale community to view its newly renovated space at 862 Scarsdale Avenue. Entertainment was provided by the jazz group “Twenty Questions” from Hoff- Barthelson Music School and Scarsdale High School’s a cappella group, “For Good Measure.”
DeCicco Marketplace, Imagine Candy, Lange’s of Scarsdale, La Renaissance Bakery, LuLu Cake Boutique, Patisserie Salzburg, Scarsdale Metro Restaurant, Scarsdale Pizza Station, Starbuck’s Coffee and Villa Roma donated the day’s refreshments.
Ellen Cohen of the Pampered Chef demonstrated her cooking products and provided a tasting of several delicious treats. Ms. 
Cohen donated fifteen percent of her sales at the event to The Center.

Woodlands High School Student Accosted En Route to School

Greenburgh Police are asking for your help to find a man who accosted a Woodlands High School student while he was en route to school on Tuesday morning October 23. The students was walking on a dirt road in a wooded area adjacent to Metropolis Country Club near Fair Street and Juniper Roads when he was accosted by a man who demanded the boy’s backpack and cell phone. When the boy refused to give them up, the man lifted his jack and displayed what appeared to be a black handgun. At that point the student handed over his things and ran.
The suspect is described as a male, black, age 25-35, 5’9”, 165 lbs., thin build, clean shaven with short dark hair. He was wearing a waist length, light green jacket, light color pants, and black boots.
The student returned to the area shortly after the incident and found his backpack and cell phone. No property was reported missing.
Greenburgh Police with the assistance of the Westchester County Police Department Aviation Unit and K- 9 Unit, members of the Greenburgh Police SWAT Team and Westchester County Police Emergency Services Unit searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. As a precaution, police placed area schools including Woodlands High School and Middle School, Maria Regina High School and the Solomon Schechter School on temporary lockdown. The previous day, Monday October 22, Solomon Schecter was closed due to a bomb threat.
The Greenburgh Police Detective Division is currently investigating the incident and asks anyone who witnessed it or has any relevant information to call the Detective Division at (914) 682-5325. All call will be kept confidential.
Auto Enthusiasts Show Their Stuff at the 9th Scarsdale Concours

Almost 130 vintage and exotic cars were on display in Scarsdale Village for the ninth annual Scarsdale Concours d’Elegance on Sunday October 14th. Lead by SHS students Ben Hasson and Sam Fried the event was a hit. Beautiful weather brought residents out to view a dazzling array of wheeled vehicles including a Brewster from the early 1900’s, a submarine and an old fashioned good humor truck. There were Fiat’s old and new – including the Fiat Spider my husband drove in college – as well as Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Packards, Porshes, Alfa Romeos and Mercedes-Benz.

Folk rock band The Traveling Jewbury's were also on hand to serenade the crowd with guitars, vocals and a washboard.
Proceeds from the day were donated to White Plains Hospital, the Wounded Warriors via the Scarsdale PBA and Scarsdale and Edgemont Family Counseling Service.

Fashion Now Hits the Runway at The Westchester

Top flight models displayed the latest fall looks at the Simon Fashion Now show on Friday night October 5 at the Westchester. A host of representatives from the Junior League of Central Westchester turned out to enjoy the hoopla and to sell champagne flutes to benefit the league’s charitable endeavors. Those who purchased the flutes enjoyed a glass of the bubbly and were entered into a drawing to win a $2,500 diamond necklace from Tiffany’s. Also lining the main floor of the Westchester were liquor distributors offering free samples of their libations and restauranteurs serving tasteful bites from their menus.
The stars of the night were the stunning models who walked the runway donned in outfits from the Westchester’s retailers including C Wonder, True Religion, Vince, Juicy Couture, 7 For All Mankind and more.

Energy Policy at a Crossroads at the Scarsdale Form 10-21

The Scarsdale Forum cordially invites the public to its first Sunday Speaker Series program of the 2012-13 season at three o’clock in the afternoon on October 21st at the Scarsdale Woman’s Club, 37 Drake Road.
Clifford Krauss is a New York Times national business correspondent covering energy. He will speak on "Decision Time: Energy Policy at a Crossroads". He covered the State Department and New York City police department before serving as Buenos Aires bureau chief and Toronto bureau chief. Before working at The Times, he worked as a foreign correspondent for the Wall Street Journal and was the Edward R. Murrow fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is the author of "Inside Central America: Its People, Politics and History,"(1991). He has published articles in Foreign Affairs, GQ and Wilson Quarterly, along with other publications. A graduate of Scarsdale High School, Krauss returns to his former community for what promises to be a lively discussion. All are welcome.
The audience will have an opportunity to meet with him after his talk.
