SHS Seniors Sign Yearbooks on Annual Senior Day

SeniorDayScarsdale High School seniors returned to the hallways of the school once more, carrying golden yearbooks and lining up outside teachersโ€™ offices on June 1, 2026. For the annual Senior Day, the High School Counseling Department invited and welcomed twelfth graders back to campus, after spending a few weeks off campus working at Senior Options locations.

Gathering in the auditorium, students took their seats before Dean Kristin Kerrigan opened the day by congratulating all seniors and with the schedule of events. The day had three components: a panel discussion with alumni from the class of 2025, dedicated time for students with their deans, and a luncheon where the senior yearbooks would be given.

Nine college freshmen who had recently completed their first year at university volunteered to return to SHS and share their insight. Facilitated by Dean Amanda Rios-Thomas and Dean Marcy Flamholtz, the rising sophomores answered questions on adjusting to a new environment and differences between academics at their schools and SHS.

Seniors listened as the college students offered suggestions to venture out of the dorms often and step out of your comfort zones. Other things to keep in mind, such as the club rush (where student organizations recruit members) and midterm season, were brought up over the course of the questions. At the end of the panel, twelfth graders were allowed to ask any questions they had.

The deans wrapped up this portion of the day by playing a video with segments from various teachers, many of which offered advice and congratulated students on their upcoming graduation.

Splitting into groups, seniors headed off to separate rooms to bond with their deans one last time. Deans asked students to fill out an optional Google form with their contact information so that in the future, other students could reach out to them with college-specific questions.

Some had their seniors write letters to two faculty members of their choice who had made an impact on them during their time at SHS, whether that was a teacher, a security guard, or a custodian. Others posed questions to their students who could pick one option and share their answers. One dean asked seniors what they would have done differently in retrospect. Another asked about studentsโ€™ favorite moments.

Deans also gave out the questionnaire and letters that students had filled out and written to themselves at the start of freshman year. A number of seniors were surprised or amused by the contents of their writing.

The awaited senior yearbook distribution was then underway at the Brewster entrance. Once a student received their yearbook, they would go outside to join their peers and begin signing othersโ€™ yearbooks and eating lunch. All sandwiches and snacks were kindly provided by the PTA.

After signing each otherโ€™s yearbooks, seniors tended to go back inside to seek out teachers to sign their yearbooks. It was a fun and nostalgic day for students to catch up with friends and teachers, reflect on their high school memories, and feel excited for college.
