Police Report: Good Fences Make Good Neighbors

FencelockCar break-in: Cash and a hat were stolen out of an unlocked car parked on Overhill Rd. Oct. 4.

Identity theft
On Sept. 29, an E. Taunton Rd. man advised that someone tried to open two credit cards in his name without his permission. One card was accepted, and the other request was denied.

On Oct. 1, an Overhill Rd. resident reported that someone opened a business line of credit with American Express in her name without her permission.

On Oct. 2, a resident walked into headquarters to report that someone withdrew funds from her Wells Fargo benefit account at an ATM at one of the local branches.

On Oct. 2, a Sycamore Rd. resident reported he wrote a check for $25,000 to NYS Income Tax. The check was on Sept. 15. On Sept. 30, it was cashed by someone who had washed the check by changing the payee’s name.

A Mamaroneck Rd. woman reported fraudulent activity in her Chase bank account Oct. 3. She was working with the bank to correct the matter.

On Oct. 3, a Herkimer Rd. resident reported that someone opened a fraudulent Direct TV account in her name in Colorado, and she received a collection notice for a debt totaling more than $1,000.

Concerns
A Paddington Rd. resident reported a translator, formerly employed by the resident, showed up at her house on Sept. 29, and made her feel intimidated. The translator allegedly testified against the resident in a family court case, and the resident no longer wanted the translator to stop by or have contact with her. Patrol checked the exterior of the house, and everything seemed to be in good order.

On Sept. 30, a Brittany Close resident reported that an unknown person stopped her and asked unusual questions that made her feel uncomfortable, such as “How do you get a house around her?” and “What do you do for a living?” The person left the area before police arrived.

|On Oct. 1, a pedestrian reported that she had been verbally harassed by a Village employee. She reported that while walking on Duck Pond Rd., the driver of a garbage truck pulled up next to her, and a Village employee allegedly said, in an angry voice ,"I'm working here. I'm in the street, and you're on the sidewalk." The truck driver then drove away.

A homeless person was sleeping on a bench near the high school track on Post Rd. Oct. 4. Police sent the person on his way.

A caller reported that a white man wearing a blue shirt and shorts was hiding in the bushes at Brewster and Ogden roads, jumping out at cars and acting disorderly Oct. 4. Police canvassed the area but did not see the man.

On Oct. 5, after midnight, a Fox Meadow Rd. resident reported that someone rang the resident’s doorbell and ran away.

Banned
Library staff presented a letter to a patron acting in a disorderly fashion, in the presence of police, Oct. 1. The letter banned the patron from the library until Jan. 2, 2026.

Trees
A Lyons Rd. woman reported that a landscaper was cutting branches of her tree without permission. The landscaper said he was instructed to cut the b ranches by the Village. A Village official was sent to the scene to mediate the disagreement.

A Meadow Rd. resident reported that a neighbor’s arborist was cutting branches over her property line. Upon arrival, police observed an arborist who had been pruning branches along the listed property line. Police spoke with the neighbor who stated he hired an arborist to cut only branches hanging over his own property and did not direct anyone to cut branches above his neighbor's property. Police spoke with the arborist who stated that he cut beyond the property line as these dead branches were above the secondary power lines leading to both residences, and this was the only way to remove them safely. It was further explained that these wires were outside of Con Edison’s right of way and were the responsibility of property owners. The resident was understanding, but frustrated that this was not communicated before. Both the neighbor and the arborist were agreeable to better communication. The neighbors exchanged numbers for any future matters.

Fence
Police were called to mediate a dispute between an Innes Rd. resident and her neighbor over a fence. One resident reported that she had received multiple phone calls from the neighbor in regards to the fact that they had put a lock on a fence door. The fence belonged to the neighbor on Heathcote Rd. and was located in the back yard, which connected with the back yard of the resident. The resident stated that they put the lock on the fence to prevent their neighbor from coming onto their property uninvited. Police assisted both parties to come to a resolution where the lock would be removed, but the door would not be used to gain access to each other’s yards.

Welfare check
On Oct. 5, police conducted a welfare check of a Palmer Ave. resident at the request of the resident’s daughter.

Bikes
A caller reported multiple youths on electric bikes making an "auto cross course" in the area of Duck Pond Rd. with dirt ramps and jumps Oct. 1. Patrol responded to the location and saw two youths assembling a dirt ramp. Patrol advised the youths that they could not create a dirt ramp there and assisted them in taking down the dirt ramps and putting the dirt back into the area. The youths were advised to speak with their parents and go to a certified dirt park if they wanted to ride on dirt ramps. The youths were warned to not assemble a ramp in the future.

Cyclists hit
On Sept. 30, a car accident involving a car and a bicyclist at Brite Ave. and Fenimore Rd.. was reported. The cyclist reported a minor injury to his foot and refused medical attention.

A car accident involving a car and a bicyclist at Grand Park Ave. and Cornell St. was reported Oct. 4. The cyclist was transported to the hospital for evaluation of injuries.

Cars and roadways
On Sept. 29, police saw a car with an open trunk on Popham Rd. and notified the owner.

On Oct. 1, police issued summonses for operating a motor vehicle without insurance and with a suspended registration to a 42-year-old Brooklyn driver, following a traffic stop on Ross Rd.

Police moved traffic cones from the roadway on Post Rd. Oct. 2.

The water department was notified about a leaking fire hydrant on Stonehouse Rd. Oct. 5.

Two car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.

Lost and found
A Richbell Rd. resident reported that his wife accidentally threw away both of his car’s license plates Sept. 28.

On Oct. 1, a crossing guard found a Chase debit card on East Parkway. Police gave the card to the bank, where it was shredded. An employee notified the owner, for replacement.

A driver stopped police on Freightway Rd. to report that one of his license plates was missing Oct. 1.

Dogs
On Oct. 1, police picked up a loose dog on Ridgecrest East and returned it to its owner. Police wrote a summons for the owner.

Village code
Police went to a sports field on Brewster Rd. where a soccer player had reportedly been using foul language on the field Sept. 30. The youth had already left the scene prior to police arrival.

On Oct. 3, police dispersed youth from the parking lot of Quaker Ridge School.

Police advised a diplomatic assistant at a Sheldrake Rd. house to lower the volume of music being played to celebrate Botswana’s Independence Day, Oct. 4.

On Oct. 4, police asked a Brite Rd. homeowner to lower the volume of music being played at a party.

Firefighters
On Sept. 29, firefighters assisted a Quentin Rd. resident with the operation of a natural gas stovetop.

A person walked into fire headquarters and asked for help removing a ring stuck on the person’s thumb Sept. 29. Firefighters used a ring rescue kit, and were able to remove the ring.

On Sept. 30, firefighters isolated a gas leak at an outdoor grill on Meadow Rd. They advised the resident to have the grill serviced and the gas line replaced.

On Oct. 1, firefighters were dispatched to a Lockwood Rd. house for a reported kitchen fire inside the oven while cooking. Firefighters encountered a grease fire contained to a baking pan inside the oven. Firefighters smothered the flames with a second baking pan and removed both pans and the burnt food to the backyard. Firefighters checked for fire extension behind and above the oven with negative results. They aided with ventilation to remove any remaining smoke from the structure.

On Oct. 2, firefighters assisted other agencies with a leaking underground propane tank in another jurisdiction.

On Oct. 4, firefighters helped Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps with a lift assist in Edgewood.

On Oct. 4, firefighters checked an open gas can on Greendale Rd. because gas had spilled onto a gravel pull-off near the road. The gas can had been used by landscapers and was accidentally left behind.

Firefighters assisted with a car accident at Fenimore Rd. and Cornell St. Oct. 4.
