Police Report: Package Stolen from Franklin Road Porch, Trouble at 7-Eleven

Attempted larceny
At 3 a.m., Nov. 9, the manager of 7-Eleven on Scarsdale Ave reported that two young men, approximately 17 years old, entered his store. One party stood at the door while the
other party came behind the counter in an attempt to steal cigarettes and Zyn. The clerk dialed 911, and the two young men vacated the store on foot. The manager advised both parties were wearing ski masks. They did not threaten him or successfully take any property.
Fraud
On Nov. 3, a Meadow Rd. caller advised that he procured art moving services from Florida on Oct. 15 for $3,200. The caller advised that he was contacted by the moving company on Oct. 30 and was advised that they never received payment or were knowledgeable of the transaction. The caller advised that the moving company had been hacked, and he was defrauded of the $3,200 payment by an unknown party. The caller advised that the transaction was completed as a bank transfer by his money manager. The caller advised that the moving company had their IT department look into the transaction, and his money manager is performing an investigation. The caller declined a formal report and only wanted to document this incident with police.
On Nov. 6, a Greenacres Ave. landlord who owns an apartment building in White Plains reported that he received a fictitious check from a potential tenant on Oct. 22. As a result, he canceled the lease.
Identity theft
On Nov. 7, a Madison Rd. resident reported the fraudulent use of her Social Security number without any financial loss. The victim reported that someone specifically gained access to her cell phone service provider.
Criminal mischief
A resident painted a Nelson Rd. curb yellow and erected an unauthorized “no parking” sign without Village approval on Nelson Rd. Nov. 3. Police issued the resident a summons.
On Nov. 3, an East Parkway driver reported finding sugar packs on the hood of her parked car.
Party
The owner of a Greendale property under renovation found empty alcohol containers at the property Nov. 8. She requested police ridebys.
Civil matter
Police were called to mediate a civil matter involving Dobbs Terrace neighbors involving tree branches Nov. 7.
Cars and roadways
Police notified Verizon and Con Edizon about a low-hanging branch on wires on Cohawney Rd. Nov. 3.
On Nov. 3, police conducted a traffic stop on Post Rd. and issued the 38-year-old Pound Ridge driver a summons for driving with a suspended registration.
On Nov. 3, police conducted a traffic stop on Heathcote Rd. and issued the 31-year-old Harrison driver a summons for driving while using a portable electronic device and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle without insurance.
Utility companies were notified about a low wire on Greenacres Ave. Nov. 3.
On Nov. 5, police conducted a traffic stop on Mamaroneck Rd. and issued the 26-year-old Bronx driver summonses for speeding, driving with a suspended registration aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver, and uninspected motor vehicle and a unregistered motor vehicle.
On Nov. 5, after a traffic stop on Post Rd., police issued a 20-year-old White Plains driver summonses for speeding and operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.
Police moved a large branch from Post Rd. Nov. 6.
Police notified Verizon about a fallen wire on Stonehouse Rd. Nov. 6.
On Nov. 7, three traffic signs for the Hutchinson River Parkway appeared to have been knocked over by a vehicle at the Hutchinson Ave. ramp. Patrol notified the Westchester County police.
The Highway Department was notified about a large crate that fell into Post Rd. Nov. 7.
Police issued summonses to a driver who reportedly followed a female driver too closely, honking his horn and flashing lights on Heathcote Rd. When the driver passed the female driver, his car hit the woman’s quarter panel and side mirror. He said he was not aware of the accident and failed to stop.
Five car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.
Village code
Police removed and discarded illegally posted signs from Post Rd., Mamaroneck Rd., Roosevelt Place and Palmer Ave. Nov. 5. Summonses were issued, as appropriate.
After neighbors complained of noise, police advised the director of events at a Secor Rd. club, and the director stated the party music would be lowered promptly Nov. 8.
Lost and found
On Nov. 3, a caller reported losing a Nike bag containing a sweatshirt and toiletries in the area of Brown Rd.
A woman found an Apple watch on Palmer Ave. and gave it to police Nov. 5.
On Nov. 8, a passerby found a gold metal bracelet near Wayside Lane and gave it to police for safekeeping.
Firefighters
Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a Cohawney Rd. gas leak Nov. 3.
On Nov. 4, firefighters were dispatched to Greenacres Ave. for a reported furnace fire inside a steam boiler unit. The resident had disconnected power to the boiler via a remote boiler shutoff switch before firefighters arrived. Firefighters encountered a minor smoke condition in the basement and found that the wiring harness for the unit and debris around the boiler were actively burning. The fire was extinguished and natural gas service was isolated at the shutoff valve adjacent to the heating unit. Firefighters removed sheet metal cabinet walls to access the insulation to check for extension. They ventilated the basement utility room with an electric fan and checked the structure with gas meters. These returned negative results for carbon monoxide. Con Edison Gas was requested to check the service lines inside the basement as well as the gas-fired water heater. Con Edison reps changed out the natural gas isolation valve at the steam boiler. Damage was isolated to the steam boiler flue, and its electrical components. There was no fire spread beyond the heating unit inside the utility room. The boiler was red tagged by Con Edison, and the resident was advised to contact a licensed plumber.
On Nov. 4 and 5, firefighters assisted at car accidents on the Bronx River Parkway.

Firefighters checked a Carstensen Rd. house after residents reported that a candle fire had been extinguished Nov. 5.
A power strip was melted in a Scarsdale Ave. salon Nov. 8. Firefighters disconnected it and recommended replacing it.
Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a gas leak in a Rochambeau Rd. house Nov. 8.
On Nov. 8, firefighters assisted at a car accident involving a deer on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
On Nov. 8, firefighters assisted at a car accident on Weaver St.
