Car Break-ins, a Death and Dog Hit on Brambach Road

Photo Credit: Shelley GrafsteinCar Break-ins: On April 7, a Boulevard resident reported that their car had been entered overnight and multiple items had been stolen. Stolen items included a bookbag, a laptop computer, a charger, headphones and an umbrella.
On April 8, a White Rd. woman reported that her car had been entered and tossed the night of April 6 into April 7. Someone stole a makeup pouch from the car. A neighbor reported seeing someone attempting to open car doors in their driveway that night. Police are following up.
Identity theft
On April 7, a Tory Lane man reported that someone accessed his airline miles points and redeemed the points for gift cards in March without his permission or authorization. He needed a police report for reimbursement.
Gathering
On April 11, an Eastwoods Lane parent reported that uninvited guests showed up at his child's gathering. The parent did not request assistance and said he was shutting down the party shortly.
Death
On April 8, an 82-year-old Brooby Rd. resident died at home.
Cars and roadways
Low-hanging wires were observed over Hillview Dr. April 7. Police notified Verizon.
Work trucks were causing traffic congestion on River Rd. April 8. Police asked drivers to move their trucks.
On April 9, police closed an open trunk of a truck parked in Freightway Garage. There was no sign of criminal activity. Police left a note for the owner on the truck's windshield.
Police mediated a dispute between two parent drivers during Heathcote School's morning drop-off on April 9. The argument stemmed from one driver honking his horn while waiting in a line of cars trying to park and drop-off kids. Both drivers left in a calm manner after police intervened.
Police called a tow for a disabled Porsche on Huntington Ave. April 10.
A parked car was blocking a Boulevard driveway April 11. Police asked the driver to move the car,
A car was parked on Montrose Rd. with its lights on April 1. Police contacted the owner who came to the car and turned off the lights.
Two car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.
Dogs
On April 6, a Greenacres Ave. resident reported that she took home a loose stray dog that became aggressive, and she was requesting help removing the dog from her house. She contacted a vetrinarian who prescribed sedatives for the dog. Once the sedatives were administered, she said she would call back for assistance in case she needed help removing the dog.
A blue Nissan Fronteir struck and killed a dog on Brambach Rd., and the driver did not stop April 7. The dog's owner reported it to police and provided doorbell camera footage of the incident.
On April 9, police picked upa loose bulldog from Sheldrake Rd. It had no collar and no chip. Eventually it was reunited with its owner who came to headquarters to report that the dog was lost.
Animals
A sick raccoon was observed in a Griifen Ave. yard and reported by the homeowner. Police went to the house and observed the animal. Police shot the animal in the interest of public health and removed the animal's carcass in a trash bag. It was delivered to the sanitation department. No damage occurred.
Village code
Illegally posted signs on Post Rd. were removed and discarded on April 7. Summonses were issued as appropriate.
Police spoke with a Canterbury Rd. resident after neighbors complained about loud music on April 12. The resident said he would shut down the music shortly.
Lost and found
On April 9, a man reported losing his wallet in Village center, near the area of Chase Rd.
Firefighters
On April 6, firefighters disconnected burnt wires at a junction box near a dishwasher on White Rd. Firefighters shut power at the circuit breaker box and recommended calling an electrician.
On April 9, firefighters were dispatched to a fire at a Rugby Lane utility pole. It was reported that wires were burning on a vehicle with trapped occupants. Wires were confirmed to be burning at a residential service drop adjacent to the utility pole. No wires were down, and no parties were trapped. Con Edison arrived on site and secured the wires.
On April 9, firefighters assisted at a car accident on Fenimore Rd.
On April 9, irefighters were called about a cat in a tree on Heathcote Rd. it was about 20 feet up and did not appear to be in distress. No intervention was necessary.
On April 10, firefighters received numerous reports of smoke odors. The pervasive odor was caused by smoke from a large industrial fire in Queens.
