How do you buy or sell a house in a pandemic? Not easily! This spring market is like none other in Scarsdale. See observations on carrying on business from two realtors below. One says that city dwellers are looking for short-term rentals and another is using Zoom for a online open house.
(From Elise Flagg at Houlihan Lawrence) As real estate agents we were mandated to work from home as were many other New Yorkers. The Empire State Development Agency's directives are evolving so we are waiting to get clarification on the most up to the minute new guidelines.
We are still working and doing what we can for our clients …. answering questions, sending relevant information as we receive it and updating them on issues pertinent to their situation.
One thing that has emerged in this unprecedented time is that many of our NYC and Brooklyn clients are asking for short term, furnished rentals. They are finding working from home with small children to be quite onerous. These (rentals) are difficult to come by in the best of times. However, we are trying to be creative and look for solutions if possible.
We are looking forward to brighter days ahead when we can once again be fully immersed in the real estate business.

I’ve spent entire days on Zoom calls and meetings, trying to become informed on all the changes and then helping to inform my clients and others. I spent a half hour online with a delightful client in her late 70’s yesterday, getting her up to speed on Zoom and how to use the phone, so she could do the video walk-though tour for the buyers and the agents all together on the Zoom call.

Local Agent Comments on the COVID Crisis and the Real Estate Market

How is the COVID-19 crisis hitting the real estate market in Scarsdale? We asked Elise Flagg from Associate Real Estate Broker at Houlihan Lawrence for some perspective and here is what she shared:
"This is new territory for all of us in the real estate market. We do have some activity at all price points.
Companywide at Houlihan Lawrence we have put on fewer listings this week than last week and our showings have come down as people are told to stay home and practice social distancing. That said there is still competitive bidding on houses under $1.5M and especially under the $1M mark.
While we do have buyer activity we have seen certain deals on hold as some buyers are taking a wait and see attitude. We also have seen other clients that want to get the process done quickly.
These buyers have watched the market and as a result we have seen houses come on the market and receive accepted offers immediately. Our city buyers tell us that the Coronavirus and the fact that everyone has been advised to stay home has made them realize that their family needs more space and they appreciate the parks and playgrounds in communities like Scarsdale.
Our Public Open Houses and Broker Open Houses have been put on hold indefinitely.
Some sellers are allowing showings by appointment only.
We do know as we talk to our buyers that whether in a few weeks or in a few months they are anxious to get back up here and continue the process of finding a home in our community."

A tumultuous week in the stock market did not discourage sellers and buyers in Scarsdale. It's prime home sale season -- and the market is busy.
Also keep in mind these upcoming meetings on land use in Scarsdale:
-On Tuesday March 10 at 6 PM the Board of Trustees will hold a work session to review recommendations from staff on potential changes to zoning code to reduce bulk in new homes and expansions. Come to Village Hall to listen to their analysis at 6 pm on Tuesday.
-The Committee for Historic Preservation will meet on March 31 to further consider the fate of 112 Lee Road, a historic home, former church and meeting house in the BramLee Heights section of Scarsdale. At a previous meeting the CHP decided to hold over a decision on the demolition of the house to consider historical information presented at the February 25 meeting.
